WWSD Rifle: A Fraction of the Cost

Ғылым және технология

Hey Folks,
I love what Ian and Karl have done with the design, but if you're like me, you have a modest budget for yet another AR. I wanted to share my design with you, while you could obviously do better in almost every category, you'll pay for it. The purpose of this video is to accomplish the goals of the WWSD rifle at a fraction of the cost. Hope you enjoy!
Kind Regards,
The Hippie Gunner

Thanks for buying a KP-15 lower. Do not dry fire the trigger like that without the upper in place you will damage the lower. It can break the wall behind the bolt catch. You can deform aluminum lowers doing the same thing. The KP-15 uses a carbine buffer AND spring, a rifle spring will also be too long. The rifle you assembled is essentially your own version of the CDR, which was a cost reduced complete rifle with an MSRP of $800 with milspec trigger. The WWSD has the following parts that drive up the cost: $300 chrome HMB BCG $280 trigger $350 carbon fiber handguard $45 Ambi charging handle $50 Ambi mag catch $40 Ambi selector $140 JP SCSS $70 Ambi bolt catch. End users will always be able to assemble firearms cheaper than buying complete because of 11% FET on complete rifles. We’re also in a very depressed market currently where companies are burning inventory to try to survive until the next gun rush happens. Parts are cheaper than ever, buy while you can.

Nice to hear from you, you definitely know your way around the WWSD. Definitely should’ve done the trigger demo differently, I’d say I was stuck in the “let me show you its features” mentality in front of the camera. I know it’s not a genuine WWSD rifle, that’s obvious, it was more of a challenge. I wanted to see how far I could push the rifle while still having the critical components being solid and staying in budget. It actually took hours to put carts together and wait for holiday sales and such, it was a lot of fun. As for the KP-15 lower, I plan on buying many more, I’m very impressed, and a flared mag well is way cooler than I expected. I’m a fan of A2 stocks in the first place so it meets everything I’m looking for, lightweight, durable, comfortable, and functional. My only criticism is it should come with the storage backplate as a standard.

I saved a ton of money and weight building my own. Went with a $60 lightened steel bolt instead of a tricked out fancy bolt. Got the slt ambi lower for $200 off the infamous auction site. Aero upper for $50. Got a clone of the uniqueAR's ultralight hex handguard for $50 instead of $200. Faxon pencil 16" for $165. Jp flash hider was $60. Primary arms microprism and sunshade was like $210. Total package is exactly 5lbs optic included or under 6.5lbs slung with a 40 round p-mag.

Light weight is key to moving, have enough to worry about in a situation where you need to be moving with a rifle.

That they are, the taught me the colossal difference between 77gr and 55gr out to distance. They aren’t just RSOs, they help you dial in your shots. You get what you pay for I guess.

I put a Feyachi light just like that one on my first AR (first gun actually). It worked well enough but I had to replace after a few range trips it becuase carbon accumulated on the plastic lens. It was enough to severely reduce light transmission and it couldn't be cleaned off. That said, I have a muzzle brake on my rifle and I had my light further forward to reduce the shadow from the muzzle device so the issue may not be as severe for you but it's something to keep an eye on.

While that’s entirely possible, I’ve only had that problem with pistols. This is a full 16 without a muzzle device so there is an advantage there. I’ve had no issue so far with the feyachi, I did do my research though and took the gamble, don’t need to do that with stream light or sure fire.

Nice custom build. Im happy with my RF15 with free float, custom moulded grip, nice adjustable stock with swivels, phosphate bcg barrel i picked up for $430+tax. No problems with it ever. Oh and it has a similar to .223wylde chamber and two nice 30rd mags.

Damn...if i didn't know the build, I would have thought it would twice the cost. Thanks for the build!

Thanks for the video I have 2 of that optic, and I really like them. That reticle is my favorite of the several PA optics I've got. Great value too. Looks like they've been discontinued though. Hopefully they'll bring it back soon.

Hired! for InRange TV presenter. Excellent presentation. ... Fired! I don't like pronged flash hiders as they can catch / do catch upon deployment on brush, vehicle interiors, jackets, condoms, etc. Sure, they work better in the ideal world, but they are a handicap in real-world heavy use. Probably won't ever be an issue on a 2-gun competition though - too sanitized of an area. I have two poverty pony lowers, molded-in trigger guard type, and they are completely in tight spec. Built with the best LPK's I could find, they are nice. My WWSD lower ... I tried changing out the trigger, the trigger I bought didn't fit, so I've never even fired it.

True, your points on the prong are very valid, for me it’s a second kind of cool. They do function, but if I had my way, I’d have muzzle brakes on everything, I just care about my fellow neighbors to my left and right haha The KP-15 is my new standard for lowers, if I had my way, they’d be available at every gun shop that sells individual lowers. Simple concept, lightweight, and the mag well is better than expected.

Personally i wouldn't be okay with those initial groups both in accuracy and stringing. It looks like a scope issue or lockup issue or twist rate instability. My opinion anyway. I go for 1-1.5moa. The scoped groups did better.
