They don't have much power as there very old engines not designed for lots of hp rather designed for reliability,

Depends on what kind of "power" you mean - are they fast? Emphatic NO. BUT - the transmissions and transfer cases on these things were built to last, with a minimum of maintenance, and I can tell you from experience...the low-end torque these babies can put out is nothing short of AMAZING. SERIOUS Grunt!

That whining noise is mostly the transmission and transfer case
