So marine biologists here. There are left eyed and right eyed flatfish they are actually considered different family's (in taxonomy) and, while I know gus was joking, no the fish were not lazy (as far as I know) the body shaped developed over time due to how the fish hunt. Which is by laying in the sand and waiting for prey to come by before ambushing them. Being flat helped them blend into the seafloor so evolution took on from there. Stingrays and skates also developed this but were compressed from the dorsal and ventral side instead of horizontally Edit: disclaimer I am not an expert on either of these fish but my job has me interact with them a lot so I have a pretty decent base knowledge of them

YOOOOOOOO so flounder are even weirder than you guys thought. Their eyes start out from birth on either side of the head like a normal fish, then over time it's eyes literally migrate to the side of the head that the fish lays on most in order to camouflage itself. From the sound of it, the eye migration is not really a guarantee though, like in captivity there appears to be reports of incomplete eye migration which is odd to imagine... like the eye moved half-way then realized it didn't have to

I will be moving out of my house at the end of this month and this is considered essential in the state of Washington, so you could definitely move if you were in the middle of a break up or something
