I got quite a FUNNY story about Kamala! When we were kids they told us that if we got good grades they'd pay for us to go to the wrestling matches! We scored a near perfect 98 A+ average for the whole 2nd grade and got to go! None of us got to see the card for that night and thus we didn't know Kamala was going to be in the main event and we ALL had front row seats! When we heard his music and him coming out with the smoke, staff, voodoo mask and the moon and stars paintings we were all so scared that as if we were a single unit we all ran up the stair and out of the Amarillo Colosseum! Our teachers had to get about 200 students calm! LOL!

back in the days before James Harris adopted the persona and character of Kamala,he was known as "Sugar Bear" Harris in the Mid-South and in Tennessee championship wrestling and most of the smaller independent wrestling federation's down south back in the day,and I guess James Harris had to kick up his wrestling style up a notch to not only gain recognition in pro wrestling but in worldwide professional wrestling is well, and I guess he did what he had to do to not only strengthen his wrestling career but the further his wrestling career as well in which he did so successfully over the course of maybe thirty something years.... it's so sad to see a wrestler like James "Kamala" Harris pass away from diabetes at the age of 60,and diabetes was the very thing that not only had ended Kamala's professional wrestling career, but it also robbed him of his legs below the knees, and it's so sad to see one of the most finest wrestlers in our profession and our generation to leave this world due to diabetes,so I just want to take this time out to say Kamala thank you so very much for the many memories that you have given us hardcore wrestling fans including myself....rest in peace James "Kamala" Harris.... and thank you for the wonderful memories that you've given us wrestling fans.❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹😢😢😢😢💯💯💯💯🤜🏿🤛🏿

What a disgrace that WWE payed him so little especially because he always worked so hard! Being a wrestler isn’t easy you have to take bumps and travel a lot and it can be painful, exhausting, and expensive but he never thought about that Kamala despite being payed so little still always managed to put on an entertaining show and the strength he has to be able to Body Slam someone as big as Andre The Giant is an incredible feat! I was there close to the beginning when I watch Kamala wrestle in the Sportatorium in Dallas, Tx. There’s never been a man walking this earth that I’ve wanted to meet more than James. He was a childhood favorite of mine and still admired today. I’m truly saddened that I never had a chance to shake his hand but he will always be one the greatest memories in my life time. Rest In Peace Brother, much love from Bud Brudis..

He was such aa great man! I got to wrestle him back in around 1990 in a WWA match ... he was such a pleasure to work with! So sad that he is gone & what he went through in his last years! God, what a blessing he was to meet and work with!

In my country the only wrestling exposure we had were six month late VHS tapes. We would get NWA rarely we would get Memphis wrestling. The ONLY Memphis VHS tape i got and watched with my late grandfather was Kamal vs Jerry Lawler. I loved him and imetated him for years when wrestling at home with my brothers. RIP James "Kamala" Harris

Kamala was the very best at role playing a wrestler character. Very under paid and underrated for what he did.
