I think this channel has really hit its stride with these long-form wrestling history videos. The perfect balance of high-production value and off-the-cuff personality, with all the information being just as deep as you want it but not overwhelming. Never been a bigger fan of wrestletalk than with these, good stuff

I think I'm gonna make Oli saying, "Like the daaaaaarts," my new text alert on my phone.

I can listen to Luke do these Documentary style videos all day.
These deep dive videos are award worthy. Everything from the writing to the editing to the presenting, it’s bloody great!
These video essays are incredible. I love the detail and presentation style. Keep up the awesome work WrestleTalk boys!
my favorite feature they had was you could look up any wrestler and it would pull up ever episode and PPV they were in and it was time stamped. There was a lot of data that was behind that site and it made it so easy to find what you were looking for.

This was like peering into an alternate timeline where Oli was the DAD and never started Wrestletalk hahahah. Great job on this! I'm loving this longer deep dive videos you all are doing!
I miss Sat E Day, but I do love these deep dives!
Man those conferences are full of outrageous after parties.
This was really interesting and shows how unique pro wrestling is as it was there from the early days of television to Vince McMahon taking advantage of the new cable era that began in the 80s.

Mae Young gave birth to a hand.... I think Moolah left it there... verrrry unique.
Luke Owen you absolutely killed it with this video I love it when you take the time to explain the history of wrestling in videos like these
that intro is pretty much what happens any time my mother comes by my home when I am watching some wrestling, followed by how the wrestling from the years back(like the 80s) was wrestling. Very spot on.
Love these big informative vids. Keep them coming. You should do one on the history of all the World Titles and how they are connected to the NWA title. I don’t think a lot of people know that the WWE,WCW,ECW,TNA, and AWA titles are all offshoots of the NWA title.
These videos have been amazing! Keep up the good work gang!!!!
That's the most educational video over viewership and WWE's role.
This, this is what WrestleTalk needed to elevate their game. This long video essays are incredible and so enjoyable to watch. The fucking video is almost 30min long and once i finished it i thought only 10min had passed. Well done to everyone involved, you deserve every bit of respect and praise from the work you've done.
i love this video essay series yall are doing
Man this is really great stuff wrestletalk ❤️ it actually makes me smile how far you guys have come and hit your absolute peak.. I was a whatculture boy back in its glory days but after they left, I found a new home here ❤️ and have never looked back since
I remember reading that there were two forms of entertainment that helped established how we consume media in our home: Pro wrestling & Adult movies I wish I could remember where I read that, but they outlined how they helped decide the VHS vs BetaMax "war" and also were pivotal in internet video delivery.

Yea, that's why Blu-Ray took off more than HD DVD's did.
That intro is my parents except replace "Wrestling" with "British Wresting from back in the day" and the rest of that conversation is exactly the same :P
I love the history lessons you've been giving thank you
These video essays are great lads, keep 'em coming!
That segway to the credits at the end is the ribbon ontop of this video. Loved every second, very well done.
This video was awesome. I love the skits between. Keep up the good work WT!
What a fab video! Came here from Oli CM Punk reaction & absolutely loved it. Wrestletalk is really going from strength to strength with this well researched, nuanced historic analysis of the business we love
One thing I've always wanted from the WWE Network but for some reason they haven't done is to watch specific angles and storylines. They've got chapters built in already so I don't understand why you can't search up a wrestler and choose from a list of the different storylines they were in and watch a supercut of each one. I've never felt compelled to just watch a random old smackdown episode but if that option was there it could be a fun way for people to basically binge watch their favourite wrestlers careers without having to watch an entire episode. Probably niche thing to basically ask them do the equivalent of clipping and making a playlist but it'd be cool to discover old forgotten storylines, rivalries and wrestlers.
Wrestling definitely also did this before the PPV era, with syndicated and then cable TV in the 50s and 70s/80s as well.
Incredible video as always Wrestletalk. It’s truly interesting to see how much WWE has evolved with the changes in technology in terms of how the product is shown, from cable TV, I felt the WWE Network was a real innovative method, giving us access to the archives of past shows, now with Netflix and the massive global reach Netflix has, the WWE product is going to have an even bigger audience as well as a more convenient way for fans to access it in the future.
LOVE LOVE LOVE these long form videos you guys are doing
Uh-oh... First the bloodline video. Now this one. Wrestletalk long form is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Fantastic job Luke! Looking forward to more of these.
The long form content is amazing please please please keep them they will stand the test of time
Great video! Love when you y'all do this kind of content.
First, love these video essays, keep it up. Second, I would like to add that Vince needed more content than he had at the time when he envisioned an all-wrestling WWE TV channel. That's one reason (aside from ego) he tried to put competitors out of business and buy them out; he was thinking ahead to a time when he could air all this footage of wrestling history on his own network, where he could sell ad space 24 hours a day and WWE could be the sole beneficiary. More than that, I assume, other active wrestling territories would have to pay WWE big money to be on the only wrestling network, effectively consolidating wrestling from around the world and putting those brands under his thumb. However he was too slow to the draw (I guess we have WCW to thank for that?). Internet and streaming services drastically cut into the cable market, rendering that plan useless. The next logical step was their own streaming service, which you guys covered really well.
What a great detailed video and a great look into the business model! Kudos!
Adore this new style of video!!! It's like cutscene but for wrestling
This was a great video! Luke and Oli did a great job with this content! Now look next year WWE will be on Netflix!
WrestleTalk is changing the way we consume wrestling KZread content. Your podcast is my favorite, it’s really nice because I don’t get the full episode of raw on Hulu, so the matches I miss I can still know and follow along with. You guys rock, but man Oli in this video is a hater… give him a superplex! ❤️
At the conference, it was insane. I was in a talk about the standard changes in HD satellite distribution when a guy from a cable company came in, hit the satellite guy with a cable box which led to a looser must cancel his service no DQ match.
I take this as a sign that I have to do my college thesis on wrestling, since I study media and entertaiment
Love the long format stuff 🎉
This almost reminds me of the story that Blockbuster could’ve had the first streaming platforms, or at least one of the first. The owner was so stubborn, he claimed streaming would never take off. Netflix soon blew up, and off went Blockbuster.
Thank you , You are the only channel to highlight how WWE become a production company reather than a wrestling company
Really enjoy these documentry videos! Always incredibly interesting! Also remind me how bonkers the world of wrestling is 🤯 and how lukes 2 main loves will always be the 90’s and the SVB Moffet Nathanson technology media and Telecom conference
Excellent ending to the video. Big thumbs up 👍🏼 I mean....cheers!
Keep doing these yall are on to something.
literally thought to myself the other day “does wrestletalk still make content?” came across this vid and was definitely worth a watch
This video was really awesome to see how the global impact of WWF/E affects the viewers, as that intimate knowledge is lost on me (and I imagine others) in the states. This video has me thinking about Vince's gobbling up of the territories for his eventual monopoly on the wrestling industry was a precursor to what's happening in college sports in the US. Growing up in the South(ern US), we had local channels like Jefferson Pilot/Raycom Sports (later Lincoln Financial replaced the former) where the sport conferences SEC and ACC games would air, respectively. However, ESPN saw the money in the SEC, specifically in American football, so they got a contract with them which essentially shut Lincoln Financial out ofexistence. They eventually did the same with the ACC due to its success with basketball, and Raycom is a shell of its former self. The outrageous conference realignment that has happened with other college sports conferences such as the Big Ten taking west coast universities such as UCLA and USC are motivated by the lucrative contracts that these conferences have, which also plays into the WWE network and its progession now. For example: the University of Texas had their own network established in 2011 (the Longhorn Network) and coaches opposed it because of its perceived expectation of dominating and changing the landscape. But it's views were even poorer than the WWE's. Now, they are merging with the powerhouse SEC along with their rival Oklahoma to benefit from the money and prestige that SEC schools are benefiting from, and as a larger project of conference realignment that is more money-driven than ever before. I'm kinda going off the top of my head here, so it's not all thought out, but there even more interesting (and troubling) parallels and influences that the WWE has had on other forms of sports (entertainment). Great video!!
I still miss the Smackdown Reviews. I miss Sat and Tempest. miss Luke and Pete. Too much Luke. Nothing wrong with him but I just got so used to the other guys on my Saturday. I looked forward every Saturday because no one does a review like WrestleTalk. But we still get the AEW review 💔
The beginning of the intro perfectly describes the haters of wrestling fans. Lol
Luke killed me with SVB Eminem joke
Good video. Funny and informative.
11:53 Jerry Springer not Jerry Springfield....
Oli deep dive on the history of Reality TV when? He can use Total Divas as the on-topic springboard lol As much as I miss Sat E Days, these long-form historical videos are great too.
Awesome video keep it up guys
Oli could do a great Al Bundy impression
The mix match challenge on Facebook was awesome! Who could ever forget the budding romance between Brawn Strowman, and Alexa Bliss?

Great video guys. Netflix could be huge for the wrestling business, wouldn't be surprised if AEW, TNA and others followed suit
11:53 “Jerry Springfield” is that Jerry Springer or Jerry Seinfeld? Or did they have a kid together called Jerry Springfield?

Pretty damn cool video
My favourite moment from the SVB MoffettNathanson Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference was the time the members of the SVB MoffettNathanson Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference had to say SVB MoffettNathanson Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference five times really fast
WWE have shown the roadmap of what the current streaming services are currently going through. See the success of larger streamers like Netflix and decide to get your own slice of the pie by making your own content available direct to your consumers at a reduced or similar price as Netflix; Relise hosting a streaming service is a expensive and the price people are willing to pay to watch your content times the amount of people who want to just watch your content ism't enough money to sustain and make profit. Then decide to offer that content from your streaming services via other platforms so you can lower the operating cost of running a separate streaming service , such a WWE Selling the Network to Peacock, Netflix etc., Paramount and WBD offering Paramount Plus and MAX via KZread Primetime Channels and Amazon Prime Channels and BritBox UK with it's integration into ITVX Premium.

A perfect WWE PPV line up... Jan - RR Feb - EC Early April- WM Late April- Backlash ( just Backlash lol ) May - Saudi Show June - MITB July - Great American Bash August- SummerSlam September- International Stadium show ( Bash in Berlin, Clash at the Castle etc... ) October- Halloween Havoc ( being wasted in nXt ) November- Survivor Series War Games ( 1 War Game match 1 Standard SS Elimination Tag ) Dec - StarrCade ! This is perfect and instantly turns almost every B level PPV into a big deal especially for us who understand how big and important to wrestling each PPV/ PLE is to the history of Wrestling. Which new fans will learn by showcasing and booking them as such. ( Other than RR the minimum amount of matches on a PPV should be 6 or 7 Matches with each of them feeling PPV worthy which with the stacked roster and good booking WWE has should be easy. Other then the Womens Tag Championship each title feels important again. Each champion feels like a star ( I love Io Sky but my friends don't know who she is... Bayley will be a bigger name however. ) but everyone else feels like a star ( Logan Paul has made my friends who are in their 30s invested in wrestling and they weren't even a fan of him or wrestling beforehand but something there clicked. Them seeing me genuinely impressed with him also has them feeling just for having that mindset. ) They watch wrestling on their own now... I'm sorry they watch WWE. They'll watch AEW with me and I'll get them to watch a match or 2 from NJPW but they aren't watching them alone. Gunther feels like a star granted I'd use him on PPVs more.
Goated eminem reference from Luke 😂
