ww2 German K98K Mauser rifle bolt disassembly (bolt field strip)
German k98 Mauser bolt field strip disassembly, I'm not going into detail on the rifle in this video as I'm going to be doing some follow up videos on it and a full review at a later date.
TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK, If you try this and damage your gun or hurt your self then you are doing it at your own risk and I take no responsibility what so ever.

@@Bayan1905 dude, no.
Accidentally released the mechanism on the bolt on my kar98 and got it stuck outside the gun, this video solved the whole problem thanks so much
Great video! Very helpful demonstration. I haven't disassembled a K98 bolt in quite a few years. This was a good refresher.
I took my bolt and accidently took the safety off. I spent a lot of time trying to get the bolt back in and after I watched this video, it was quite easy. Thank you EV0 7125 for an outstanding video...you saved many of us many headaches...
Just bought a sporterized Mauser at a local gun show, this video has been immensely helpful!
Thanks bruv!! Your tip is still helping people 10 years later!!
Thank you. I got the bolt back in place now. I panicked for a moment, but then I found your perfect little video to help me out👍
Thanks for making this video. I just received a mauser action from my Father in law, he asked me to studied it , so your video has been vary helpful , specially because I took the safety of earlier and I was having problems to put it back in place. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this video you have literally no idea how much this video helped me better understand my bolt system!!
The Mauser bolt has always been a masterpiece of engineering excellence and to me a Rubik's cube to dismantle until this video.
4:37 I appreciate you going over that I was concerned when I couldn't get it back I tried what you said but it didn't work I just wrapped a tea towel tightly around the safety part and got better grip and did the same technique and that "click" was a great sound. Thanks and Cheers !
Quick and simple, well done. Thanks
Thank you for showing the safety up. All other videos just twist off the back. Could not figure out why mine would not come off.. :)
Thanks buddy! Awesome video! Helped me fix my bolt, cause I didnt put the safety in. Got the rifle a few days ago and another tutorial on yt didnt tell me to put the safety in!
Thanks for detailing how to get the safety set. I dropped the bolt and it set to unsafe. Mine isn't a k98, but on more modern bolts, the instructions still worked.
Great video, you covered some points of potential trouble (safety in disassembly position, and what happens if you try to disassemble without doing that) where other people doing similar videos skipped over it.
thanks so much. I left the safety down on mine and didn't know what to do. This video is awesome. Keep doing what you're doing. Def L&S
Great video...I was just cleaning my 1939 Mauser and ran into the issue with the bolt but your video showed me what to do thx!
Thanks for the video! Wish I had watched this before I learned the hard way!
Excellent video!! I've been having problems with my Mauser sporting rifle in regard to the firing pin and safety being in the wrong position when I take it out of the rifle and then struggling to get the bolt back into the rifle. Thank you for posting this video!!!
Man, you just saved my life with the fix for forgetting to set the safety lol. Thanks!
Thanks for this! I've had the safety stuck on my K98 for like a year but just now got around to trying to figure it out. Good thing this tutorial existed!

A lot harder to take the extractor out that way when the bolt head has not had a big bevel ground into it. lol Good vid though. Quick, accurate, and to the point.
Awesome video!
Thank you so much!! You my friend are a life savior ;)
Thank you for posting this. I took my bolt out, But had the safety in wrong position to get it back in the barrel. Good to know I didn't bugger my rifle. Cheers from Canada:}

This is my first time seeing one of your videos I have one of those guns well the boat at the boat is the same kind you’re using and I appreciate it works perfect your video about the same client I had same problem about it being you know the last part you’re talking about of the boat how it was on the safety was pointing the wrong way and I couldn’t put it back in and it worked so I think you and this is the perfect video I found you think you’re the first video popped up
Nice video. Helped me with my mauser. Thought I broke the safety until I saw this video. All good now. Mine is a little bit different. I should post a pic for you.
Cheers man, you saved my day!
Thanks for the help at the end. I didn't engage the safety before I disassembled mine and I immediately saw the bolt lock and I was like uhhhh ohhhh I fucked up

thanks for showing how to fix the bolt if you take it out without putting the safety vertical
Very well done video. Thank you for showing the fix with the safety locking the bolt and firing pin. To be more professional please refrain from using the word "obviously."
Thanks for the video, it's great for those of use who don't bother with following the directions the first time...lol
awesome video! you explained that so well, as usual haha :p
Glad the video helped :) you've got some great videos, I subscribed :p
I made that mistake when I first purchased the rifle by not putting the safety in the up position. When I started to unscrew the bolt it locked on me and i thought I had to replace the bolt but I took it to a gun shot and they fixed it for me.
This is quite common, the rifle is either allied or Russian capture (if Russian it would have the hammer+sickle mark) if allied it would only have the markings punched out. The rifles were disassembled and the parts piled up so when they came to put them back together most of them were "mis-matched" hence the bolt didn't originally belong to the gun, the allies didn't normally bother stamping out the bolt markings. Hope that helps.
Ha, that was interesting, I never knew how to remove the extractor.
Aaahh i LOVE Karabiner 98 kurz
my cocking piece is stuck ive tried soaking it in pb blaster and can twist it with pliers but can't get it off. any tips?
Awesome ,,, Thanks so much :-)
Yeah, i had that prob;em with bolt safety a long time ago :D Took a lot of time to get it back... Does the bolt have waffen amt markings? Because such k98 bolt with such a bolt handle shape was used in K98 AZ rifle
If you can move the safety to vertical it means the bolt is cocked, which is quite useful, I'd leave it in vertical. First thing I would try is wrapping the bolt handle in a cloth and try tapping it upwards with a hammer, just don't over do it. If thats not working try using some oil, put oil around the rear of the bolt near the safety and maybe the part you can see under the magazine. Other than oil and a hammer I cant really think of anything else, chances are its seized up and needs some oil.
Thanks for your help. I will try that out. I would assume then there is no way to unscrew the bolt unless the safety is vertical right?
Lifesaver
Wow thats right but it need much power👍
thanks :)
Are the Wa marks scratched out on the rifle as well? or just on the bolt?
yes it is :)
The only markings that I can read on the bolt are the serial number and the deactivation stamp.. there could be some others beside the bolt leaver but I think they've been scratched out.
I can't get my bolt back that way at all! It just won't twist. I think it may be to do with the fact that the safety never worked (deactivated?)
can you tell us about bughler or dughler , it says that on the safety , thanks
Hey I can't seem to remove the bolt or even lift the lever with the safety in the up position. Any thoughts as to what maybe wrong?? Thanks I love this rifle, but it won't fire so I want to disassemble and see what's wrong.
Hiya. I also have a deactivated k98k with the same early k98a bolt s147 1936 dated all the Wa marks are scratched out do you know any background to your rifle?
Do you know where you can buy parts for the kar98?
super cool thanks
i dont have the original stalk i have the black one. how would i take the pin out?
I have a mauser frankenrifle that I bought, so I don't have the the take down ring on the butt to take apart my firing pin. Any other way you know of to take it apart without damaging/breaking the firing pin?
@evo7125
6 жыл бұрын
Jose Adrian you could try and use a vice with some wood in the jaws so you don’t damage the firing pin, or even get a block of wood, drill a hole in it and find a steel washer the right size and then you’ll basically remake the take down ring just in a block of wood, and then be able to use it every time you take it apart?
That's a Yugoslav M48 bolt, and wow it sucks to live in the UK all these beautiful rifles you cannon even fire. :/
My rifle doesn't have the safety lever so how could I combat that?
No just the rifle. The bilt is electro penciled but still mismatched.
What year model is that bolt from? Have never seen the face of the bolt look like that.

He lives in the uk where they are not allowed to have functional firearms. So to be able to own the rifle, it must be made non functional, hence shaving the bolt head down so it may never chamber a cartridge.
Your bolthead looks nothing like mine, yours seem cut down in some way, is your gun disabled?
Firing pin and cocking piece came out and firing pin stil inside bolt.what now?
Brilliant explain 👍, I’ve question , can I use WD40 on bolt spring and reassemble it without oil ! ? Thanks

i own a ' old ' de-activated mauser and the bolt is only slightly filed so i can still work on it. You have to be lucky.
Why was the rifle deactivated?
5:16 I tried to do this with the bolt and for me it's not working
Can not move my safety catch it must be welded as mine is a deac too.
so it can legally be mounted on the wall :p
Can you move the safety if the bolt is not in the rifle?
@ktgunsmith5751
8 жыл бұрын
Not easily. You have to press the cocking piece back to compress the spring just enough to engage the safety. You can do this by placing the front edge of the cocking piece (the part that rests against the sear) against a soft edge like the edge of a table, push down on the bolt exposing more of the cocking piece, then you can engage the safety. Do not place the front face of the cocking piece against a metal edge as this could mar that surface which could affect the trigger pull.
What gives with the bolt face?
that looks like a WW1 german Kar 98a/Kar 98az bolt
Yes the safety has to be in the vertical position, it cant be to the far right as that locks the bolt in place and you wont be able to lift the bolt leaver, and if its in the off position (to the left) you wont be able to unscrew the bolt once it is removed from the gun - as seen in the video.

Last part of the video is my problem which wasn't getting right😂😂😂😂
The Mauser 98 service rifle is beautiful and has a strong front locking action that can be readily rechambered for a wide range of rimless hunting rounds like the 9.3x62mm big game round, but was a second-rate service rifle. The simpler and more robust Mosin-Nagant (pronounced ‘Mo-seen Na-gon’) - which was affectionately called the “Mosinka” by Russian soldiers - is a much better service rifle thanks in large part to its quick release magazine floorplate that allows quick and easy cleaning if dust, sand, dirt or mud gets into the action without the use of tools. Even better is the Lee-Enfield service rifle which had a rear locking action that was far easier to clean if dust, sand, dirt or mud got into the locking lug recesses, and uses easily cleaned quick detachable 10 round magazine (double the capacity of the 98 and Mosinka which use non-detachable magazines). You can also single load a round directly into the chamber of the Mosinka and Lee-Enfield if something went wrong with the magazine without a problem, but try doing so with the 98 and you will likely break the extractor. The best Mauser type rifle is the contemporary CRF Winchester Model 70 which has a quick release magazine floorplate, a coned breech, an easy to use 3-positon side-swing safety that facilitates the use of a low mounted telescopic sight, and a bevelled extractor that allows you to single load a round directly into the chamber without breaking the extractor. That said, if I had to grab one of these rifles for use in any conditions I would grab a Lee-Enfield (No. 5 “Jungle Carbine”), but would favor a Mosinka (M38 Carbine) if I wanted the most rugged rifle; though the M70 is arguably better for use against dangerous game thanks to its CRF action (better feed reliability) and a safety that is much easier to use than those used by the 98 and the Mosinka (if not the Lee-Enfield which has an excellent safety). If debris gets into the front locking lugs recesses of the 98, Mosinka or M70 you will want a toothbrush and a water canteen to clean it out. Lee-Enfield rifles in good condition are no longer readily available but Mosinkas are. The Molot KO-91/30 M hunting rifle is essentially a refurbished Mosin-Nagant M91/30 service rifle with a shorter barrel, a turned down bolt handle to facilitate the use of telescopic sights, and a quick detach side mount like that those fitted to AK-47 assault rifles.
That would be illegal my friend.
