Ultraviolence: psychedelic rock Lana Honeymoon: Jazzy/ James Bond Lana Lust for Life: sad pop Lana Norman Fucking Rockwell: Surf rock Lana Chemtrails: Folk Lana Blue Banisters: Country folk Lana Tunnel: introspective magnum opus Lana

I am so glad you listened to my comment. Chemtrails video is wild, there’s a deeper meaning ofcourse, there are fan theories…it’s obviously a metaphor, I like to leave it open to interpretation, if someone likes it enough they’ll dig deeper. Also, the more Lana you listen, the more her lyrics make sense. I see her opus as one big story. In my opinion this is one of the lyrically lighter Lana songs. I really hope you will react to and like more of Lana’s art.

Basically, my interpretation of this video and this song is that Lana Del Rey is talking about the dichotomy of her personality or how on the one side the media portrays her compared to how she is in real life. The first half of the song paints a picture of an American dream for example hanging out with your best friends by the pool enjoying the summer laughing about nothing, she mentions white picket fence but replaces it with chemtrails. Then in the middle of the song, the tone shifts and changes and it becomes a lot darker visually. She reveals who she really is and how she’s not unhinged or unhappy she’s just wild and has a different side to her. She goes on to say that a cancer is sun and her Leo is moon. Cancer being represented in the first half of the song/music video, and Leo beingrepresented in the second half of the song/video as the tone shifts and gets darker. That’s basically what I got from it but I could be wrong! Loved your reaction!

Cruel World by her from her album Ultraviolence is like a 60s/70s eargasm. West Coast is very... beachy 90's grunge sound. All of Ultraviolence is amazing honestly. Heroin is another good one, that's from Lust For Life, I believe. Edited to add: Terrence Loves You is my current obsession. It's a tribute to David Bowie. A&W is INCREDIBLE and is... I can't even explain it. You have to go into it blind.

I love diving deep into the lyrics and both: finding out what the author had in mind and how I read it, how does it apply to my life. About my interpretation: I think it's about the inner conflict the protagonist has, from one side she strives for family and safe love, from the other side she's afraid of loosing her wildness and freedom, she's trying to find normality as something that'll bring her fulfillment, she sees this as the only way to this peaceful lovelife so she's lying to herself that normal activities can be enough for her, but she deep down knows it's not, that's why we have those declarations (about still being wild and not being bored or unhappy), she doesn't want to convince us, she wants to convince herself. Also, Lana, before releasing this album, was showing a book "Women who run with the wolves", so I think we could find some possible interpretations in there. This inner dilemma from the song also reminds me of the phrase from her next album, from Blue Bannisters "You can't be a muse and be happy, too You can't blacken the pages with Russian poetry and be happy". And about those phrases: "my moon's in Leo, my Cancer is Sun"- Your Sun Sign describes the centre of your personality, what motivates and drives you, and who you are learning to become. Sun in Cancer sign is associated with family, mother figure especially. Your Moon Sign describes your instinctive or emotional energies, your innate reactions. Whilst your Sun Sign describes qualities you are learning to develop and become, the Moon in Leo describes who you already are. On an instinctive level, you are likely to feel strong emotions. There is often a passionate intensity that needs to be expressed. You will always feel more energized when your natural spontaneity and exuberance can be expressed. I'm still unsure on how to interpret the "chemtrails" but those are my ideas: the believers of this theory became more active during the pandemic, spreading their ideas on what (and who) is poisoning us (some claiming it was the virus, others that it's vaccine 🙃). Lana released this single in January 2021, so right in the center of pandemia. I see "Chemtrails" as a symbol of something dangerous coming, this inner disturbing feeling that grows inside. Something that can't be controlled by those rich members of mentioned Country Clubs. I believe Lana (staying in the covid times) saw how improper, how injustice that time turned out and she felt kinda guilty she's in this "Country Club" relatively safe, swimming in her jewels in chlorinated water "playing it cool" (which shows this social inequality), while outside the Club there's this indefinite danger, what the "chemtrails" constantly remaind her of. Maybe this place, the Club, is somewhere she run away with her loved one ("I'm on the run with you, my sweet love") searching for a safety. But being there she feels she doesn't belong. She puts on a mask and as I said before she wants fo convince everyone, but mostly herself that that's her element. That's where the "Chamtrails" could also symbolise her inner wildness- she feels it in her bones it'll destroy her relationship, that's why she run to hide in a Country Club, but she can't hide her true nature. I also see white picket (fences) chemtrails as a symbol of bars, prison. So again, at heart she's still "wild" but while searching for safety she gets captured in this "perfect" isolated community (almost like from Stepford Wives) and the "Chemtrails" remind her this utopia won't last, because it's fake, her true wild nature is calling. And the last one 🙈 I see the motif from Wizard of Oz in the music video. The Dorothy captured by the tornado, taken from her perfect home, that collapses like house of cards and placed in the world where she needs to face danger and find her true self. Soo much to unpack 😅 but I love Lana for this. What you should know is she's the author of all of her lyrics and she majored in philosophy, with an emphasis on metaphysics.

Just subscribed! I'm so excited to see someone new go on a Lana Journey, haha. She is such an amazing artist, and a poet. Her music videos are visually stunning, and often laden with story elements, as you've seen. Though, personally, I hope you go back, and look at some of her Born to Die Era stuff next, just because hearing the progression of her sound is so interesting- there isn't one clear throughline, of course, but there is a... path? I suppose. But then, my favorite album is Ultraviolence. Also, This is me being selfish, I haven't seen anyone mention Born to die: The Paradise Edition, (There is a difference, like 5 new songs), so I selfishly will as well, because it contains 'Ride' which has, in my opinion, her most stunning music video. Heck, if you want to know the kind of love she puts into her work, she put out a 30 minute short-film as a music video for three of her songs from The Paradise Edition. It's called Tropico, and is absolutely gorgeous. But regardless of what you choose next, I am excited to see it, there's really no 'wrong' way to listen to her haha. Everything is so good. :)

to understand the song you kinda need to know her life up until this time, but i’ll try my best to sum it up. she was born elizabeth woolridge grant and raised in lake placid, new york to an (at least verbally) abusive mom who she doesn’t really talk to anymore and her dad who shes still close with. she also has two siblings who were in the video, caroline (chuck/chucky) and charlie grant. her, her dad (robert grant), and her siblings are very close and they’re involved in a lot of her music/videos from chemtrails on. she was sent to a boarding school for her alcohol addiction at 15 (she’s sober now, i think 20 years recently). she went to fordham university for philosophy and moved into a trailer park in new jersey around 2007 and signed with five point records to released her debut album under the name “lizzy grant”. she was signed to a bigger record label around 2010/11 and released her major label debut album “born to die” in 2012. at the beginning of her career her lyrics were exploring the dark side of glamour (ie: drugs, sexual/domestic abuse, etc.) and around 2018/2019 she made a noticeable switch to embracing the simpler things in life. the song (imo) referencing these two sides to her and how just because she’s moved away from the glamorous/public life, she hasn’t lost her wild side (fun fact: the video references the book “women who run with the wolves” by clarissa pinkola estés). her music also shifted from more pop oriented and grand to piano and folk-influenced production. i think she got sick of the hollywood space and just wanted to focus on her family and live a more private life. chemtrails over the country club (the album) is kinda like a roadtrip through the midwest/middle america/south with references to various cities/states like nebraska, arkansas, and louisiana. she’s releasing a country album called “lasso” in september. (if you made it this far, sorry for the long comment i just really really love lana lmao)

The song morphs throughout it's length. To begin with, Lana mentions racing her Red Sports Car and that she is wild. But she isn't saying that stuff by the end of the song, because as time has continued, she has grown up. Her friends have also grown up and they have all 'settled' into adult domesticity (like you mentioned, the American Dream with the White Picket Fence). But they all MISS being YOUNG AND WILD. Throughout the entire song, there is always that same sky, with the same problem (the jets), so the friend group must be feeling stuck in the same place (southern California is my guess since there is a place name involved once). They go from being wild teens to bored housewives who WISH they could be those wild teens again. They all have that wild spark but they have nowhere to put it because it does not belong in civilized, domesticated life. It's a little bit of frustration that goes with a 'perfect' life. It's related to 'Careful What You Wish For', but then it has a lot of imagination with the Werewolf imagery. :)

I'd only heard a couple songs b4. Video Games was one, I don't remember the other. Her voice *is* very cool, but previously I thought it sounded like she was stoned out of her mind! Maybe that's just the vibe she aims for, or maybe she is stoned. LOL Interesting video. Guess life is rough at the country club too. Does the end have something to do with Hollyweird? Some artists just like being cryptic. Thank you Bill ❤

All good points and questions, my friend. I think she writes very metaphorically but this is only my first song. I've never heard Video Games (not yet) but from what I understand she is a very deep writer.

Maybe do an album listening party live-stream? I know a lot of people suggested Ultraviolence. Sounds good to me! I do actually love the journey of evolution of an artist and will try to do that for Lana. Thank you, my friend!

AND THE JOURNEY HAS BEGUN. she has album called Ultraviolence which is rockish, so I am thinking that this is your type of album, but if you want to listen to songs separately start with SHADES OF COOL.

Oh are you in for quite a treat !!! Lana never disappoints ! You MUST enjoy and react to it all, including some of her live performances that you must must must experience !! Look up her 2015 Endless Summer Tour, something was in the water that day or something because her vocals were insane on every song, but the 2 that I highly suggest from that 2015 show, "ultraviolence" and "shades of cool" she transports you to wherever it she wishes !!! Go with it !! 😅👍

Biiil, I'm gonna go ahead and call you uncle Bill (a sweet and respectfull way brazilians calls older people that are "close") hahahaha I always brings me soo much joy when and I see people that are not into POP music (thinking about favorite genre) go deep in the ride with popfanatics exploring our queens ♥ I would suggest you do more Taylor Swift and I just realized you already realeades a new vid!! (finishing this one and rushing to that!) Taylor it's the biggest pop star in the world right now! She likes to work really close with her friends (mostly also musicians), and she and Lana made a beatiful song toghether it's called SNOW ON THE BEACH (feat Lana Del Rey)! We have 2 versions of SOTB, the original and the SNOW ON THE BEACH (feat more Lana Del Rey) hahahahaha When the song came out the fans complained in the intenet (Taylor watchs what we write about her music) that there was almost NO LANA in the music, that it should have MORE. So they re-recorded the song and releasted the second version SNOW ON THE BEACH (feat MORE Lana Del Rey) HAHAHAHAHA such a clown funfact: for years now Taylor uses Jack Antonoff as her lead producer, Jack worked with Lana (he produced Chemtrails Over The Country Club with her and other work too) and then Lana and Taylor worked together on SOTB with Jack as procuder!!! a full circle The same thing happened with Florence, from Florence + The Machine. AMAAAAAZING artist/pop/witchy/diva. Florence and TAylor are realeasing a song called FLORIDA!!! comes out April 19th, guess the producer?? sooo i suggest listening to: *SNOW ON THE BEACH (feat Lana Del Rey) and SNOW ON THE BEACH (feat MORE Lana Del Rey) *In April 19th - FLORIDA!!! (feat Florence + The Machine) - produced by Jack (is from Taylor brand new album The Tortured Poets Department wich BTW will simply BREAK the world) my recommendations for Florence: *Dog Days are over (probably heard this one) *You've got the love *Shake it out *Howl (a personal favorite) *Free (produced by her and Jack) good ride in what you choose to listen to, kisses

I think you should listen to her older albums, especially ultraviolence or born to die. I never see the music videos of the songs and just focus on the lyrics but seeing this one for the first time... i hated it, it looked so good until the vibes went from vintage to... i dont know what was that but it didnt make sense to me. That's why i dont like music videos and just prefer to listen.

Ok, thank you for the recommendation! Sometimes a music video will use imagery to convey an idea in the song using metaphors and symbolism. And sometimes the director goes off and there is little connection. Artists like Twenty One Pilots uses colors and hidden easter eggs that connect to other songs. Thank you!

The more you listen, the more connections you'll make, and you'll notice little sounds that she uses in so many songs .. but they blend into each song .. like whatever the one sound is that sounds sorta like a dying whale or whatever it is lol lol im not sure what the instrument is. You'll know it when ya hear it ! On the Born to Die album, specifically

This was great! Hope you do more Lana soon. She is considered of the best songwriters today. This song is not very lyrically deep. For suggestions Since you mentioned you like metal, i feel you will love songs from her Ultraviolence album. It is in psychedelic rock genre. But for her best lyrical work, Try Norman F*ing rockwell album. Also you look great.
