I miss John's videos very much and wish his family and loved ones well. This video is what turned me onto the Shadow Warrior series and now I can come back and provide advice to new players. Get the Rage skill on the karma tree and use it. Force yourself into low health for the fights and then kill all the enemies with rage activated. This is how you get 5 stars for every fight.

So I just got this game yesterday and I can tell you that it's truly fun; sword play is simply to learn, incorporated with the dodging you can do circles around opponents, power system allows you to do strong moves and different healing techniques - you customize your character by selecting certain powers that are denoted by large tattoo's on your body. I still haven't beaten the game - looking forward!

This is one of my favorite games. The new version is just fantastic to play and look at. I've made a lot of awesome desktop images from it by hiding the reticle and gun through a console command. During that fight in the beginning of the vid, you should have shot the torch pots around the area when they were near an enemy to make them explode. Same situation in the town. Shoot the air conditioners, drink machines, cars, etc. for explosive ways of taking about multiple baddies. Another fun thing about the level areas is the amount of destructible items and architecture there is available. You also get points for destroying them. The charge strike on the sword is one the best moves to use over and over again on any enemy, and helps unlock achievements. Other than the game itself, the soundtrack is also a favorite of mine as well. It is so well done. Cheat codes? Hmmm, seems the makers decided to take those out of the game, which sucks. I'd love to have the Rocket Launcher from the start.

this game looks so much fun that I HAD FUN watching TotalBiscuit play it. Also, I'm pretty sure he used Sv_Cheats 1 and Impulse 101 for all the weapons, if the console commands works the same way with valve games. Not sure what he could of used for all the upgrades, however.

  • @PlayerName343

    @PlayerName343

    10 жыл бұрын

somethingguy912 What? I'm saying this is a different game not built on source, therefore this developer (Flying Wild Hog) is going to put differently named console commands for things in their console interface. Some source games, like Counter Strike: Source or Half Life 2 use specifically the commands sv_cheats 1 and impulse 101, whereas a game like Serious Sam 3 uses cht_bGiveAll 1. My point is not every game uses Valve's specific command names for C-VARS (SV_Cheats/impulse), and Shadow Warrior would most certainly not use them, as it was built on the Road Hog Engine.

The game is awesome, even has references to Hotline Miami, Serious Sam, Hard Reset and ofc original Shadow Warrior... Even some secret level design is based on first Shadow Warrior. Lots of secrets too. Just Awesome. (Btw developed by Polish.)

Visceral, fluid and responsive combat and gameplay. Level exploration that comes with well hidden secrets and ones that aren't that hard to uncover. Tons of upgrades that are easly aquired (money from exploration and karma for performing well in combat). Slicing and dicing with ridiculous amounts of gore. Amazing visuals. Game is brilliant. I am having as much fun, as for the first time when I've played the very first Painkiller, my favorite shooter of all time. And that means a lot for me.

Apogee got the rights when Atari crashed, and Jace Hall still wants to go ahead with both a HD pack and windows 7/8 compatabilty feature for the original and a full reboot, however, we will have to wait a while for the reboot. as no developer is currently available, Interceptor are still trying to get ROTT to work on AMD ATI (but it works fine on nvidea since patch 2) and will then be tasked on finishing and launching Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded. Farm 51 have "sold out" and are now making COD clones for XBLA, Flying Wild Hog are working on rebooting another 1990s 3d realms classic (not confirmed yet, but it has been confirmed it isnt blood) and Monolith Themeselves are "working on a yet unconfrimed "retro FPS" title for Rockstar NYC" (possibly a new NOLF Perhaps? that would be SWEET! if they kept the classic NOLF gameplay and feel, and we all know rockstar still holds onto many classic mechanics so they certainly could keep the classic gameplay, heres hoping!) so, there will be a full blood reboot, with the "proper" gameplay a PC game should have, like this, and ROTT, but, we will have to wait a while for a developer to become available.

bchwil indeed, i found that out not long after i posted, i am sure apogee would be willing to sell, they need the money, and they know that devolver would do a good job, modernize the game, but, without selling out, same as apogee would but better thanks to a much larger budget. who knows, perhaps that 90s 3d realms classic FWH is doing may be BLOOD after all. i just hope they can get Stephan Weyte on the VO, hes still in the games industry, it would be a shame if they couldn't get him as i cant imagine anyone else providing the same gleeful sense of maniacal evil as the voice of caleb!

Just beat this game a couple of nights ago. One of the best games of this year, I'd have to say. The only thing I don't like about it is its questionable optimization. I have a gaming laptop that can run, for example, Blacklight Retribution on all Maximum settings and full AA and get a consistent 60Fps, yet Shadow Warrior, a game that's graphically on about the same level, nets me around 40 or so on MEDIUM settings and NO AA. That's a problem.

  • @BlueScarabGuy

This isn't exactly an "indie" title ("indie" usually refers to lack of an official publisher, which this game has--Devolver Digital--or at least that's how I've come to understand it), but I see the point you're trying to make. However, Flying Wild Hog's previous game, Hard Reset, was much more well optimized. I could run that at a pretty consistent 60FPS on High, and Ultra hardly ever game me anything below 35 or so. Since Shadow Warrior is only marginally better looking than Hard Reset, I'm surprised at how much worse it runs.

I sure hope so. If I hadn't grown up on consoles, and therefore wasn't used to low framerates, this game might've been borderline unplayable. And besides, being AAA is no guarantee of having good optimization. You mentioned CoD. Look at Ghosts on PC, it's hardlocked at 65° for FoV and runs at about 40FPS on TotalBiscuit's amazing rig, and stutters IN THE MENUS.

To be fair, I've just finished 2 of the old school shadow warrior titles. The level design isn't about being open, it's about getting into the level designers head. It's about searching for secrets. For example one of the levels requires you to go into a random fireplace and look up and back the way you came to spot a ladder in the chimney to get the key you need to progress. Not find the secret, progress. Others have you searching for weakened walls to blow up. Frustrating but fun.

That stands for "Head-up display", i.e, all the indicators for player to see, such as life gauge, ammunition in possession, objectives, etc.

buying ammo is cool for people who prefer to use one weapon extensively. I never bought ammo in this game since all weapons are fun and ammo is abundant, but it's cool that I could fully upgrade one gun and use it all the time if I wanted to.

This game really reminds me of Nekrovision (also made by former creators of Painkiller). The mix of guns, melee weapons, magic habilities, sense of humour, hordes of enemies. I'm going to like this.

There's also Nekrovision (also made by former Painkiller devs), which its protagonist, Simon Buckner, is heavily inspired on Ash Williams from the Evil Dead series: the looks, the tendency to spit witty on-liners, that both fight the undead and demons. Also, like this new Lo Wang, Simon gets the help and advice of a supernatural entity residing in a magical gauntlet with wolverine-like retractable claws that he gets form one of the bosses halfway through the game.

Thanks for the WTF on this one TB. I had an absolute blast playing it. Any game that starts with The Touch can't be too terrible. The humor was silly and the action was fun. The tone of the end of the game actually surprised me a bit given how the rest of the game went.

Got this game last week from GoG.com, and I don't regret buying it. It is fun, intense and gory, like the shooters from the '90's. Playing this game reminded me what a shooter is and isn't, and this game gets a spot next to Painkiller. If you even remotely liked shooters like this in the past, you will not regret getting this. And as a special throwback: the GoG.com version has a 3D-version of Lo Wang's original sword, which is a nice touch.
