Gary, thank you so much for this. Your videos always have the tips I need, but the last few minutes of this one enabled me to set up my Mac for the multilingual spellchecking I need for work. I’d looked in loads of other places before realising you’d made this video; should have known to come to you first. Cheers!

Holy moly this one ranks right up there in usefulness. Being from bilingual Canada and of Italian descent, my doubt meter ramps up when writing a document that contains 2 languages. The Set Up option is just the ticket and moral of this video: with pop up menus scroll all the way down for possible extra goodies! Huge thanks, Gary!

面白い動画ありがとうございます. Dir danke ich für ein interessantes hilfreiches Video Gracias por hacer algún vídeo, el que para mí fue muy útil y interesante. Thank you for an incredibly useful video for a very niche audience with a very specific use case. I have to have every system recognize all the languages in order for the screen reading software to even have a hope of transitioning between languages while it’s reading text. You’re awesome!

Thanks for this! Though in the world of MacOS where everything is usually centralised, I can't understand why language settings are so complex!

Thanks! Can you discuss using text direction? Specifically, languages that are written right to left and also doing that in an otherwise English document.

Hello Gary and thank you for your very informative content. Especially since I just bought my first Mac ever, a MacBook Pro 16 inches. I have a quick question: I use both French and UK English keyboards. The keyboard layout is in English, but I type a lot in French. Where can I find the @ sign on the French keyboard ?

@Johnny Rep Thank you very much. It seems like the AZERTY keyboard on a Mac is different from the classical AZERTY I used to type on on my PC. The @ sign used to be the combo Shift + Zero key. Is there a. way to configure the "normal" AZERTY keyboard ?

Thank you Gary again for your videos. All those functions are great but they still do not deal with more advance text where I use Polish, English, German and Latin and the words are within one paragraph. We are talking about a specialized texts that does a lot of referencing, especially to latin terms. Is it possible to have the spelling set up to work within a single paragraph? Can this be done somehow?

I don't think so. As you said, "specialized texts," so not something Pages is going to be able to accommodate in this way.

I have a number of documents in Pages that I export to Word. Once in Word, Spell check wats to check everything in Italian. I haven't been able to fix this issue.

On Pages I can change to Simplified Chinese, but how can I then say I want to use Pinyin for input or look up radicals to find a character?

Very useful, as usual with your videos. I have a question about numbers. I am learning Italian and created study sheets in numbers, utilizing the columns. Is there a way to set the “language” in a column to be English, and another column for Italian? That would help with all the auto correcting. Thanks for your thoughts on this.

  • @macmost

no, but you could just include both languages for the whole document as I show in this video.

Hello! I’m from Brazil and writing in English in Pages. However I use the iOS app. Do you know how to fix the correction lines on it? It’s kinda hard how every single thing I write ends up being detected as spelling mistakes WHILE I need actual answers to actual spelling mistakes 😅

  • @macmost

Tap the three-dots button at the top right in Pages, then go to Settings, then Auto-Correction to turn off Check Spelling. But did you know you can go to Settings (the Settings app) and go to Pages in there and set the language for Pages to English even if your iPhone is set to Portuguese?

@@macmost the thing is, I did that but then there are English mistakes that I don’t see while writing that end up being transported to when I post because there are no correction lines 😵‍💫 And I already did that and still doesn’t work ://

@@InkyCloneJoestar Not sure why it isn't working for you, sorry. Just check those settings again to make sure Auto-Correction is ON and the language for Pages is set as you like.
