I can't tell if Larry is a real person or a ghost but that final letter saying you never cared about me felt like a reply to Larry from the murdered girlfriend which makes me think that Larry is being haunted by that girlfriend and she's leaving the old letters around to warn the player.

Yes, it's highly important to not share any compromised personal information to anyone or only friends. One of my friends was able to find information on my big brother and my college ( with the help of Battlenet App showing people real names). I laughed it off because I knew he wouldn't do anything, but I'm NGL I was scared after the fact.

What makes you think you can outrun them in the time it takes you to open the door and sprint when they are most likely right behind you? yeaaaaah, i had a similar thought of: "oh, yeah, no wonder a serial murderer's favorite book is one about a madman killing somebody over something stupid."

Honestly, Larry was SO creepy to me. It truly hits different, when you knew someone like Larry (not a monster or a some sort of serial killer obviously, but the manipulation hit right in the heart). So honestly, some topics really hit home in a bad way.

Spoiler territory here: It seems like in the good ending Thomas figured out that something is very wrong with his pen pal and lied about being in the same situation to appease supernatural Larry, since Thomas didn't write "sincerely" in his last letter. And in the bad ending he writes that he was never in such a situation. The only thing I'm wondering about is Larry's last note, something along the lines of: "You speak to me about loss? You NEVER cared about me", which is a direct contradiction to his last letter. What did he mean by that?

Maybe that's actually Laura's letter to Larry. Laura seems to have gotten out of a toxic relationship with Larry and found Thomas. Larry might be some super strange guy who after breaking up decides to prove that Laura's new boyfriend isn't up to snuff. Where the good end is that Larry can't find anything wrong with Thomas and gives him regards as "Please don't stop smiling". In the bad ending, although Laura still likes you, Larry doesn't feel it is safe to leave his "girlfriend" to such a naive man.

@@CD-zi6rb, I don't think it's that Thomas lied, but that although Larry had let go of pursuing Thomas to follow on his advice of handling break-ups, he still felt resentment and jealousy toward Thomas's sincere relationship with his ex, Laura.

The first time we see Larry, I love how Manly's mouse shakes... He does not scream, but clearly gets scared. It is so strangely comforting, knowing that he got scared with us :"³

I noticed in the second note he list favorite things that are opposite to "yours", as mentioned in the alternative reply you didn't send. Curious. Also, I get the feeling that our friend doesn't understand that the whole point of a pen pal is that you DON'T meet them. Guess he didn't get the memo.

It seems like Larry is a serial killer or even a spirit who’s just targeting random people. It seems like he killed Laura and her boyfriend and after was haunted by their spirits which drove him mad with guilt. In the last letter of the good ending he mentions that he’s written to a lot of people but no one seemed to calm his guilt except for Thomas. The last letter after that seems to be from Laura to Larry, as there’s no signature smiley face in that letter.

i like to add something i thing larry WAS the bf and after the break up killed her and all the ppl after happens to live in the same place she did, I haven't finished the video but I think lauras ghost is helping us to stop the cycle

I'm surprised by how much the letters vary, that's a great touch to make your responses feel more important despite the short length of the game. Thanks to the surreal apartment, this actually managed to have some solid atmosphere once we started getting Larry making creepy sounds.

It started out sad/wholesome, man's just wanted a friend to talk with

I’ve only ever had a pen pal once, and that was in second grade, and *that* was because it was part of the school’s curriculum. I wonder how normal pen pals meet each other. Is there like a pen pal tinder or something?

Theres actually some apps for this. I used to use one before I got busy. Usually they let you meet and talk to people from around the world and sends virtual "letters" in real time. So it'll take a while to send/receive "letters" when someone lives further away. They're pretty neat actually ^^

Fun Fact: At 23:01, the tune Larry knocks on the door is "It's a Small World After All." Just found this quite interesting, in case anyone else was wondering. Edit: It also appear at 34:22 I believe.

That piano "bit" made me jump. Damn even tho this game ain't that high graphic, it still sets the atmosphere of "silence" and it gives feelings to the player of uneasy and anxiety.

I'm a little worried that Larry's laugh sounds like Manly's.

I made the mistake of leaning closer to my monitor just before the jumpscare. Made a noise I can only describe as "the yelp of a small dog being startled awake"

The question of "Do you believe in ghosts?" in one version of the bad ending and the note in the good ending "You never cared for me." seem to imply that Larry is being haunted by his girlfriend that that the notes scattered around the house are a warning to the player. The final note in the good ending is likely from her, directed to Larry and declaring that she's not done with him.

Nah this is the shit I love about this guy, he fucking tanks any horror game or jump scare like it’s nothing. Gotta give it to you man

To be fair, you CAN tell when he's getting scared by something. He's just not much of a screamer and instead the mouse shakes frantically. ^^

There is an interesting story called "The Space Above The Closet" that also uses the concept of swapping notes with an unseen person. Dr. Creepen narrated it on KZread if you're interested.

It reminds me of that time he played the witch's house. That was the first time I heard him scream, and I replayed it 10 times 😂

_This person is an upstanding citizen"_ Yeah... they're up and standing right in your house. The creepiest part was the commentary from MBH - "just want to get in your house, smell your sheets" It's exactly why you have a security system and nope, not sharing info about it lol. _spoilers follow_ The game's lighting and visual design was wonderful. The lights made those shadows absolutely deeper - combined with the strange dimensions of the rooms and furniture gave a very unsettling feeling. The smiley face worked well to be scary. I think Larry murdered his ex and maybe her new bf - but I also wonder with all the ghost talk if you are now living in his gf's old apartment and his ghost appears to you, writes letters, kills you bc he killed himself as well? Great job to the dev and to MBH for creeping me out with his voice!

I love how you commit to a slow turn! Really puts you in suspension!

I wanted something to watch over breakfast, and thought "Hey, Manly has a pleasant voice. Let's watch one of his play throughs!" ...twelve and a half minutes in and I decided I don't need a shot of adrenaline to compliment my morning coffee today. Mostly because I was starting to anxiously grip my knife and I don't need to be accidentally stabbing my father because he poorly times walking behind me or something. 🤣🤣🤣

29:50 I have great fondness for Manly’s “distressed ranting” voice.

You have a good point actually, but I think the protag could possibly be Laura. We know Laura and 'Larry' were in a relationship and that Laura ended that relationship for some reason from all the notes of Larry apologizing to Laura and trying to get back together with her. That also explains the last sentence of the final note, "You never cared about me." since Larry was obviously bitter about Laura moving on.

@@user-nb5jo2xi1g That's the one part that bugs me, everything feels like it should add up to our character being Laura. All the crumpled up notes from Larry to Laura in the bin, all the secret notes from Larry to Laura throughout the house, the note at the end. At first I thought maybe Laura was lying about her name in the letters, but Larry is the first person to call the protagonist Thomas in the first letter they receive. All I want to know is how Thomas fits into the story. Maybe he's just a random person who learns about all this through the notes, but it's the last note that throws me off. Edit: This is just a theory and what I personally thought up by watching the playthrough, there could obviously be a bunch more details I don't know and which probably give better answers then I can. Take everything I say with a grain of salt.

Well, Thomas later mentioned "your neighbourhood", so presumably it was noted somewhere? (Possibly on the back.) Which does lead to the follow-up question of... if the killer is leaving letters _with his address_ around the houses of the people he's killed, how has he not been caught?? Maybe the letters mentioned in the news report were the old ones to Laura? Still...

Honestly that first letter just made me feel bad. I also like the design of ¨monster¨ It has a interesting style to it! I also kinda want to give it hug... It just looks huggable :/ edit: I watched the video fully now I must say I really like it :) I enjoy the style to the game and especially ¨larrys¨ design. All the letters must have taken a while to make! For the first game for this developer it a great start and I cant wait for more from them :D

The creator of this game has some good feel for atmosphere. Also the design is really creepy. The only thing I had the issue with is the flashlight at the endgame part could be a bit brighter, but that's just my opinion

The horror feels is actually great, as it's supported by the lighting. I always love the part where manly make commentaries about the stupid decision the protag chose. Great work as always, Manly

I just noticed that the protagonist's foot steps have the same timing as a clock. Cool detail.

I like how the stand at the door kind of looks like Larry from afar because of the lighting, pretty unnerving.

You know, Larry, it's customary to share information about yourself first before asking for equivalent information about someone else...

Not gonna lie. I'm 25 full time job and all, lost interest in KZread except for a few meme videos. I was feeling nostalgic for a month and then you showed up on my feed, you remind me of a time where I used to watch KZreadrs like chaotic Monki or Cry or markipliers play video games late at night and I just listened to their voices... You earned yourself a solid subscriber congrats keep up the good work !!!

Holy cow the knocks @ 4:22, it's my late bedtime and that audio had me getting up from a half-sleep state like: Who the hell is knocking at this hour? Sounded like my actual door. Then Manly saves me and answers the door for me in game. What a pal!

Manly, you sound almost exactly like a character named Soren Arkwrite from a Dungeons and Dragons podcast I listen to. It's called Dark Dice, and If you're into D&D at all you should give it a try! It's a horror campaign and it has an amazing story.

Honestly I really appreciate when a player chooses to go for the bad ending first, it makes me feel better when things are left on a more positive note at the end :)

How the game was made is suprisingly well done! It's like giving you a sense that what you should and shouldnt do, and of course stranger danger. Overall its an experience that teaches you a lesson at the end if you know what I mean by that

No one: Every single horror game house owner: Make thier house big but having a serious bad light souce in it

I had two competing theories as I was watching, the first came from the fact the first note was in your trashcan before your first reply as well as the hint of supernatural to the stuff going on. Anyway the first theory was that you're Larry and that you had a mental break after killing your Ex and her new BF and developed a new personality named Thomas and now you're writing letters between the two personalities as a way to cope and as explains why the letters Larry wrote to his Ex are in your house. Either because you are Larry or that the smiley ghost is leaving them because it's your Ex getting revenge. The second theory is similar to the first except you're an innocent dragged into it. Larry killed his Ex and her new BF and is now looking for someone to talk to but you ended up killed by the smiley ghost Ex... Not gonna lie, fell asleep writing this comment and lost my train of thought so yeah... whatever.

8:55 I didn't realise the knocking was coming from the video and I actually got up and went to open the door expecting my dad to be there, home from work but then no one was there. Gave me the chills when that happened haha, I was really tired and I didn't realise.

Holy shit you’re the guy! This game fucks, it’s so cool. You made such an oppressive atmosphere, the visuals are simple but work so well. I think Larry’s jumpscare got me all 4 times. Like A+ dude

To be fair, if the protag left the house with the killer outside, he would die immediately!! So he doesn't go outside and leave the house to avoid that
