    Just a heads up, wrestling shoes tend to have turned up toes as a way to keep your weight on your toes. Want to move around the mat quickly and stay on the balls of your feet helps, kinda like how basketball shoes will tend to rock towards the toe!

    They are pointed up because in wrestling we are on our toes a lot, we don't go on our knees when on the ground because it leaves us vulnerable to them grappling our knees.

    I'm in a big dilemma with these shoes. I have the white adipowers and the red/black Adidas combat speed 4. I'm 6'2" and the extra heel in the adipowers helps me reach depth really easy and squats generally feel more stable, the problem is knee pain when I squat more frequently. On the other hand the flats feel amazing and I feel stronger in them out of the hole, but I barely reach depth, and if I want to reach it, I'd have to bend over more (long legs and limbs, short torso problems).

  • @dvmtraining6231

    @dvmtraining6231

    7 жыл бұрын

    It could be the raised heel of the adipowers is forcing your knees slightly more over your toes which in some cases can aggregate the knees, I have the powerlift 2.0s and although the stability is great, I also get some knee discomfort over time when I use them so I mostly squat in just socks which keeps my knees feeling so much better, albeit at the cost of some stability

  • @BasementBrandon

    Have you tried adjusting foot and toe position? I know I had to. Plus I have to have weight on the bar lol.

  • @the_real_toji

    @the_real_toji

    7 жыл бұрын

    How did you adjust? I squat with a stance outside my shoulder width, toes out about 30 degrees. I usually squat that way with flats too, I feel my hip flexors a lot more in flats, but I also have to bend over more. And I know the problem is my knees traveling more forward, that is why I switched from olympic lifting to powerlifting, since high bars and front squats hit my knees hard.

  • @graysonjackson5844

    The toes tend to go up because when you’re wrestling you are on your toes. So they are made to help that.

    What about George "The Animal" Steele? Chief J. Strongbow? Gorilla Monsoon? Bruno Sammartino, The Living Legend? Blackjack Mulligan with the iron claw? Pedro Morales? Superstar Billy Graham? Ken Patera (not a character like the others, but an ex-oly lifter (I think) who was strong af)? Superstar Jimmy Snuka? The Iron Shiek? Can't remember too many of the real oldies from the late 60s, early 70s) Probably all before your time. Quick story... Was at Houston Hobby Airport in the mid-to-late 80s on business travel and saw Gentleman Chris Adams from a bit of a distance yukking it up with a bunch of other "wrasslers". He always looked smaller than his opponents on TV and did compared to the guys he was with. I walked up behind him and he was huge, both in height and in width! Made me look and feel very small by comparison... My brush with greatness... Oh yeah... Great video!

    Excellent lifts, brother. Disappointed though. While you trained in this video you didn't say your prayers or take your vitamins. I was alive in the early 90s but really didn't get heavily into wrestling until the mid-late 90s..... the hey day of wrestling in the Attitude Era. I'd say my top 3 are: 3. Ultimate Warrior...... the dude just entered a room and would jack you up. He's like a metal song in human form. 2. Mick Foley 1. Without a doubt.... Stone Cold Steve Austin Not the most original list, but the sheer badassery that was Stone Cold is unforgettable. The fact that he damn near single handedly beat the WCW in the Monday Night Wars for the WWF cements him as not only my #1 wrestler of all time, but quite possibly the best ever period.... at least in the WWF(E)'s eyes. I mean without Stone Cold does WWF beat the WCW in the late 90s/early 2000s? Not saying they'd outright lose without him, but maybe the WCW wouldn't have floundered and would still be around today. Austin was not only a badass wrestler, but IMO he most definitely shaped the wrestling world we know and see today..... whether or not that's a good thing is up for debate. Honorable mentions: Ted Dibiase, The Rock, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Ric Flair...... and I always liked Ron Simmons too back in his APA days. His "Damn" was hilarious to me too for some reason.

    One thing I'll note that during the breaking in period, they slightly restrict ankle dorsiflexion due to them being so tight up top (especially with the velcro strap on). So for that period I tucked the strap inside and gradually it got better.

    Can't wait to hear about your experience with them after a few trainingcycles. I was looking for new flats (either wrestling shoes like Asics or general fitness footwear like Metcons because.. I'm not really training FOR powerlifting or PL competition, just general strength/hypertrophy/conditioning, so..) after my knock off Chucks tore and warped on me again. Right now I'm wearing Reebok Workout TR 2.0 for anything except rather upright Squats which I train in some out of stock old ass model Reebok Lifter 2.0 which I can't really place anywhere on the spectrum since its my first pair of Olys.

    From my perspective i have adidas AdiStrike(John Smith version, red/white) and i can't squat or deadlift in wrestling shoes. The problem is edges of wrestling shoe just surrend and i lose balance. I would not suggest anybody squat or deadlift in wrestling shoe. On the other side bench press in this shoe is amazing, this shoe connect with ground so well which cause amazing stability on a presses. Still would suggest buy romaleos, legacy, antas or adipowers/powerperfect2 to anybody which want be great in squats/deadlifts or weightlifting.

    So, yay or nay? And what do you think about mini football shoes like Umbro? I'm trying out Adidas Kaiser 5 goal and like them because of the quality, grippy bottom, and low and sturdy sole. Previously i wore some Umbro with a net type of top and they were pretty good and comfy

    Are you still using the Adidas' wrestling shoes for deadlifts? I got Adidas havoc 2s and noticed that the toes are turned up on these as well. I know many 700lb+ deadlifters who recommend them so I don't know if it's necessarily a bad thing...

    I had a really old pair I used to box in that would have been perfect for lifting but I can't find em. All the new ones I have tried on just feel too narrow for me. At least all the asics which is all I can find locally. They almost feel like I am balancing on a strip. The grip is amazing though which is my problem with chucks. I may just bite the bullet and get the sabo deadlift pros or the power lites. I usually just train barefoot on everything I do (home gym), but after smashing my toes into random stuff about x2 a week I have decided to put shoes back on...

    Brandon Campbell Diamond I honestly think it was because so many people mispronounced his name as Henning, which was probably more well known because of Doug Henning it just stuck. Also reminds of the two guys named Greg Gagne, one played for the Twins, the other was the AWA star and son of Verne. One pronounced his name like Gag me and the other the French way.

    Having owned and used a pair of crossfit lite TRs for squats/deadlifts for over a year, I was looking to buy a pair of these adidas wrestling shoes because I want to look cooler in the gym. However I feared that they would give less support than the lite TRs. Whats your overall conclusion? Is it less supportive at all? Or should I buy a pair and look super cool in the gym?
