WRECKED F/A-18 Hornet Lives Again
Ойын-сауық
The Freewing Hornet lives! Don't miss out on your chance to own a beautiful scale model that flies even better than a full scale Hornet can. We highly recommend Hitec HS-85MG servos in the stabilators for security, and be sure to use Hitec metal servo arms to secure it further:
🔋 SMC Batteries
We're flying on SMC Batteries from www.smc-racing.com and you should too. The LiHV packs are outstanding and you won't believe how well they perform until you try them for yourself.
🔥 5280 RC
Be sure to pick up a BlueFire or TrueFire 🔥 afterburner for this jet. Larry's afterburners look amazing - brighter than what you can get elsewhere, and cheaper too:

Awesome professional flying! Glad you were able to diagnose the issue causing the crash and have made proper fixes to get this Hornet back into the air.
RC flying in this channel to me has been a source of pleasure, thanks for your uploads happy flying!
I just put the EDF that comes in the Eurofighter inside the F-18.. stoked to see the power gains
I just did my maiden today thing flies nice I flew mine on a 5000 hrb, landings were perfect half flap and I glided in, four times. went home Happy
Love the hornet content!
Fantastic flying and looking jet. That final approach was gorgeous.

Thanks Dan! This new format we've switched to seems to be much more resonant with the audience than the previous ones. We'll keep this up.
Ad, grate flying bro, I Really love how you greace the all of your landing, I have the SU30 70MM Twin EDF jet, haven't fly it yet, still working on my landing with it on my hanger 9.5 RF Simulator,
Me, no ready for this. But you are good on this. I keep practicing!!
Great video as allways.

@@TwoBrosRC Are you Swedish?
I have it's little brother the 64mm F-18 with an fms edf in it and also modded the rudders to be functional. Like its big brother you have there it also has full flying stabs and is very agile but with that it also has very nasty stall characteristics. Got into a near unrecoverable stall doing a tail slides. I think the F-18's air frame in general just like the real jet allows it to be very agile! As always awesome flying sir! 👏👏
@TwoBrosRC

The Hornet is absolutely a very unstable plane. The long snoot coupled with the short wings creates a very weird flight experience that a gyro helps tamp down significantly.
Those nasty stall characteristics are for real. I almost never get surprised when flinging the f22 around, but that f18 made me wear my brown pants more often.
@TwoBrosRC

This jet is a real handful to fly. It's fun and performant precisely because it's so unstable, even if it's nose heavy.

Same, makes it feel so much more rewarding when it comes down nicely.
Just got mine as a high performance, still working on building it and getting it setup with the spectrum ar8360t. At first going to set it up stock then advance it as I get to know it using a 5000 50c gen1 pack

The stock motor is super heavy compared to the FMS 1950kv setup - you may want to consider upgrading to that fan in the future as it'll be as powerful but lighter weight.

If my 90mm vipor gets smashed some day which I hope it doesn't that I believe I'd the motor your talking about for the Freewing F18
For your elevator servos you mentioned HiTec D85. I thought you used the B13dlm from Amazon? Did you have an issue with them and switched? I’m replacing my servos and just bought a set from Amazon.

HS-85MG, actually. The B13s are too small to fit the Hornet in the stabs. They're in the flaps on this jet. Never had any issues with them.

@@TwoBrosRC ok thanks. I see my issue now. The torque specs look good, UT the physical dimensions are too small. Thanks
I like mine so much, I'm on my 3rd one. I've got all the same control set up done to mine, and to me it doesn't feel like is has any nasty stall tendencies. I can yank back on the elevator and it'll power through. The Tomcat on the other hand will drop its left wing like it's going out of style if I even say the letters AOA.
@TwoBrosRC

You might be flying on a lighter battery - this was all shot on a 6200 SMC LiHV pack. A 4000 to 5000 pack won't stall as easily, but put it into an accelerated stall and you'll see what we're talking about.

@@TwoBrosRC interesting. I'm using the HRB 6000 mah packs shoved as far back as it will go.

Are you flying with 150% throw that's maxed out as far as everything can travel? That makes a big difference too.
@rcLawnDartPilot
Жыл бұрын
@Two Brothers Radio Control re watched your full elevator application on the landing roll out. You've probably got at least 5+ mm more throw than what I'm using.
So I just set up my (Eflite) f-18 with tailerons. Should I now nullify the ailerons and have them only function as full span flaps?
@TwoBrosRC
Жыл бұрын
Definitely wouldn't recommend full span flaps on the E-flite F/A-18. The stabs can barely move compared to the Freewing jet, and you'll need a lot of up elevator compensation to fly like that.
@stevemartin9498
Жыл бұрын
@@TwoBrosRC ok so no full span flaps. Monitor up elevator throws. Do you see any advantage then on my jet to program tailerons at all?
@TwoBrosRC
Жыл бұрын
More roll rate and the ability to run the stabs through the gyro for pitch and roll, which makes it more stable at lower airspeeds where it's most necessary.
Just ordered 5280 afterburner for my vipor 90, eflite f16 80mm, and the freewing f18 all with the wislers. Are the wislers worth it? Also about to order the afterburners for the freewing f14 and maybe even the wislers for it if it's worth it?

We've never used the whistler devices but you'll probably enjoy them!
With my fms 70mm F18 if I hit rudder in fast flight it wants to snap-roll? Is that normal?

Jon I just looked up the HS-85MG servos you recommended for the stabiliators, if i'm understanding this right they're analog not digital servos. Is that right? Do you feel it's a dealbreaker at all if they're analog and not digital servos for use in the stabilitators for this jet?

We wouldn't recommend them if they weren't good to use. 😉 Ours are still HS-85MG servos.

@@TwoBrosRC got these servos but struggling to get them to fit. Any tips? How did you get yours to fit in ?
Had the strangest stall on mine as well the other day. Stalled on landing approach, I had deployed flaps and gear at the same time which was mistake 1. Mistake 2 was having too high rudder rates. Together they caused way too much speed loss in a turn and stalled into the ground. Was expecting a total loss but only the gear was damaged. Amazing build quality on this bird. Performs as if it has thrust vectoring. Did you say you switched the servo arms to metal arms on the elevators?
@TwoBrosRC

Yes, definitely swapped over to metal Hitec arms for the HS-85MG servos we use.

@Two Brothers Radio Control thanks! Any tips to avoid any future stalls on this bird ? Currently using % of book high rates which means 80% elevator, was 80%rudder but will move that to 70, and 60% aileron. 6ch setup so no tailerons.

@Two Brothers Radio Control did you stick with the stock pushrod connections or did you swap out to swivel ball links on both the horns and servo arms ?

@@EDF_FANatic Nothing but experience can really help you with this, unfortunately. It's a stick feel thing. You'll get an idea of when and where it will stall, and why. All it takes is more time flying it. This is one of the reasons why we say this isn't a beginner or intermediate jet - it's definitely on the higher end of advanced level flight.
What kind of flight time's do you get with those 6200 LiHV Batteries?

Four to six minutes roughly. Possibly more if you're conservative with throttle.

Accelerated stalls happen when you pull too hard on the stick while maneuvering. Any aircraft can experience one if the airflow separates over the wing. Stalls can happen at any airspeed.
