The WRC is the FIA World Rally Championship, a tough motorsport using rally cars on real roads around the world. Watch the best rally drivers battle on gravel and asphalt roads with mud, rain, dust, ice and heat! Watch high speed action as the rally drivers power slide and drift round narrow corners, go flat out over a big jump or through a watersplash, handbrake turn round a hairpin, survive a big moment, or have a massive crash! Rally requires maximum attack and careful tactics to become world rally champion.
Each rally has timed sections called special stages, on closed roads. Drivers complete these stages as quickly as possible. A co-driver reads pace notes that explain the hazards ahead. Rally drivers use the same rally car to travel to each stage on public roads, following normal traffic regulations. The crew which completes all the stages in the shortest time is the rally winner. Championship points are won using the same scoring system as Formula 1. The championship is administered by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body.
Over 30 countries have hosted WRC rallies. Rally Monte Carlo, Rally Argentina, Rally Finland, Rally Portugal, Tour de Corse on Corsica, France, Rally Sardegna on Sardinia, Italy, Safari Rally in Kenya, Acropolis Rally in Greece, Rally New Zealand, Rally Australia, Rally Japan, Rally GB, Rally Catalunya, Rallye Deutschland, Rally Mexico and many more.
Some of the world's greatest drivers have won the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, like Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz, Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist, Petter Solberg, Ott Tänak. The list of world rally champions includes many Finnish rally drivers like Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, Ari Vatanen, Marcus Grönholm, Hannu Mikkola. French drivers have had success with Sébastien Ogier, and 9 times world champion Sébastien Loeb. Famous drivers from other motorsports have come to try rally driving like Ken Block from Rallycross, and Robert Kubica and Kimi Räikkönen from F1.
Car companies compete for the prestigious FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers awarded to the most successful WRC constructor. Winners include Citroen, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Peugeot. Ford have had success with the Ford Escort, Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta when the M-Sport team won in 2017.
The 1980's featured the iconic Group B rally cars like the Lancia 037 and Delta S4, Peugeot 205 T16, MG Metro 6R4, Ford RS200 and Audi Quattro.
Japan dominated the 1990s with the Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza, and Toyota Celica and Toyota Corolla. Toyota returned to the WRC in 2017 with the Toyota Yaris WRC, winning in 2018. It’s interesting - parkland mixed surface events are a staple around the world in amateur rallying, but there isn’t such an event on the WRC calendar (usually). It’s a shame we didn’t get to see the event in Belgium this year as well, but this Monza event was fantastic. The stages were interesting, and unique. The time of year and conditions were perfect. I would love to see a mixed surface, parkland event such as Monza, or Belgium, become a permanent fixture on the WRC schedule.
Amazing and really cool idea to race there. The snow makes it even better

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but, for years, even though i don't watch wrc that often, i've noticed a particular driver that i got a liking of. It is Jari Matti Latvala, because of his driving style. He isnt always the fastest, but when he is really in the zone, the way he drives really excites me. When he is in the zone, he drives like a madman, absolutely to the limit and i love watching that.

That is a very mild fog for nothern italy... I mean, it's the normal amount of fog you get nowadays but back in the days you had a handful of meters of sight, sometimes less. Climate is changing quite fast here but even I, being a 90s kid, managed to see some very thick fog when i was a child. Now it's a rare event, mainly at night and it's just some spots with such limited visibility :)

This is great, but why did the WRC+ coverage not show the most interesting parts of the stages and cut away from the action to boring end stage interviews?
hyundai knows how to make a cars, but they ignore the skills when they are on the mass production. how funny.

@@jaywoo9457 All the new N cars from Hyundai are great. Though the normal cars they make are quite mundane. Having said that the mundane cars are still quite good quality-wise compared to what Hyundai used to make.

They never go on the oval. They (1) start on the inside of parabolica, (2) exit on the track, pass through the runoff area, (3) pass Ascari, (4) turn left at Serraglio into a service road that's parallel to the main straight, (5) turn right 90° into another service road, end up in (6) curva grande but backwards, then, at the end (or start) of the curve they (7) turn into a service road, then (8) turn right into another sr, (9) exit into yet another sr thats parallel to 5 and in the end they (10) pass under the northern banking.
