    I just subscribed, this one amazing new thing I learned, has been the dividing the short row, is to divide it in the beginning. I had never heard that before!! Genius.

    I was so excited to find your channel. I am a self taught beginner knitter. My knitting teacher from our local yarn shop told me I was " unteachable!" I found a childs beginner knitting kit in our book store & it took me forever but I finally knit my husband a cable afghan zi had wanted to make. My goal is to knit him a pair of socks & because of you I just might do so. The closest yarn shop is an hour and a half from me, so finding a knitting class is almost impossible now. I want to teach kids to knit at our library. I need to learn to knit socks. Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

    That teacher from your lys sounds very unpleasant... nobody is unteachable. There's just certain teachers that don't work well with certain students, as well as teachers that can't teach - being able to do a skill and being able to teach a skill are 2 seperate skills of their own. Keep on going! You will do this! Kind regards, a fellow self-taught knitter

    Wow! You are an amazing teacher! I was shown how to knit by my cousin who was babysitting for my sister and myself. She gave me two plastic dpn’s and a small ball of yarn from a repurposed sweater and cast on a number of stitches so I could practice. That was 60 years ago and I taught myself how to knit from books and magazines. (No KZread back then!) My one and only way to turn a heel included picking up stitches on either side of a heel flap and knitting a gusset. I was so excited to learn your wrap and turn short rows heel!!! I knit the first one last night, ripped it out and knit it again today for practice! I did it!! No holes on either side! Thank you so very much for sharing your skills and expertise. There will be socks under our Christmas tree this year!

    Oh! I've found this so difficult! Full of holes! I will go back to my usual method. That is not to say your instructions were not good. They were very good for those who hold the yarn in the left hand. I hold mine with my right forefinger and flick the yarn around the needle, I don't throw the yarn. My husband used to be fascinated as he said my 'flick' was so fast he couldn't see it! I'm left handed but ever thankful my mother, who was right handed, taught me to knit. She hated knitting! Anyway, when you were picking up the 'wrap' I found it impossible to see how I could do it! I tried allsorts but no luck! Thank you anyway😊

    Thanks so much! I got a new sock book for Christmas and the first pattern I tried uses this short row method. I was a little puzzled by it and am so happy to understand it after watching your video.

    Great tutorial, it's easy to follow and provides great results! Thank you! I'm knitting a pair of socks with a moire dye job and didn't want to interrupt the flow of color with a turned heel, knitting a short-row heel from the other side of the ball did the trick! I can finish my birthday present for my friend now. :)

    Thank you for this. You really have a gift for demystifying instructions on techniques. I swore off socks 15+ years ago because I hated the gaps in the W&T. Recently I gave it a go again with a pattern with an afterthought heel (with a pattern in two contrasting colors). It was worse. Making two new stitches at each end from the fabric was not enough to close the gap and you can’t snug it up at all since you’re p/u the sts from the row below. Loved the design otherwise but knew I’d never make another afterthought heel. Now I can still make that pretty pattern and make your no hole W&T heels. So grateful.

    So between learning a sort of slingshot caston for toe up socks and now pretty much mastering this technique on my second try, I have a whole new way of making socks. It takes longer than my old standby, which I could almost work in my sleep, but I like these short rows better than German ones and the result looks professional. THANKS!

    Suzanne! I'd not seen this tutorial and was using another "lazy" kind of method for a few years now. Tried this one tonight, a bit tricky since I was using some splitty Kroy, but it worked out perfectly with the double wraps!!! Thank you for this amazing demo, and I am blown away at how you do this with the camera, and zoom in and out....you are amazing!!! Thank you so much!! Blessings ❤

    Neat way to prevent holes at the ends. I never saw this technique before but will try it out. I usually add an extra stitch on each end then decrease on the next round but sometimes i get holes. Maybe this’ll close the gap better. Thank you

    Great option to the boomerang version that's been driving me crazy! I'm much more less "fiddly" doing wrap and turn than that weird maneuver at the start of each row on the boomerang version of short row heel.

    When knitting socks, what heel do you prefer to use? I knit a lot of socks and haven't been happy with the SR technique I've been using. So, I'd really appreciate knowing which heel you prefer. I've watched this video probably a dozen times and hope to use your technique on my next heels!! I LOVE your videos and your teaching style and voice. You are very clear and easy to understand. Thank you so much for charging with us!!

    For me, I use heel flaps, heel turn and gussets. I have very high arches and they fit me the best. But for some designs, short row heels fit the pattern better, as in this design.

    Thank you for this video! I’m having a lot of trouble with the “lengthening short rows” on the knit side, picking up the double wraps and bringing the yarn through them. Is there a way I can lift them up onto the needle like I do on the purl side to make it easier to knit all three together? I can’t quite visualize which way they need to go onto the needle. Thanks!

  • @SuzanneBryan

    @SuzanneBryan

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes, you can lift them up, you will be on the purl side. You have to look at the knit side to see them, so bend your head forward and tilt you knitting towards you to see them, then put your right needle under them and lift up onto the left needle. then purl them together with the stitch on the left needle. Let me know if this helps. 🧶
