Wounded Warrior

Things were finally starting to slow down from a very busy day of Towing, when I received a phone call from my son, Rudy.
He explained that while he was heading out to remote area to look for deer sheds, Jeep number two stalled out and will not restart.
After two hours of hiking, him and his friend Bryn were able to catch a ride in a two seater Corvette. I wish I had video of that.
They still had a 45 minute ride before they were in cell phone service and couldn’t make a phone call.
He was in a place near coral pink sand dunes called elephant gap. We would not be able to get to where he is with a rollback tow truck, and we would have to take jeep number one out there and use a tow rope to bring him back to the pavement.
By the time they got back, and we got geared up to go. It was well after dark.
We arrived at the staging area and unloaded Jeep number one and headed up to elephant gap.
We found jeep number two as Rudy had left it, and were able to retrieve it without too much trouble.

My dad was so great. My girl and I got stuck down an old logging road. We had to walk two miles to get to a phone. My dad came and we took her home first. Then we went back and we got my truck unstuck. Then he showed me what I should have done so I wouldn't have gotten stuck in the first place. He never asked once what we were doing there or brought it up again! I sure miss him.

Got drunk as a teen one time and decided I couldn't drive my bike home. Girl friend said "what are we going to do?" "Phone my Dad" I said. "Won't he be mad you got drunk?" "Nope he will be happy I didn't try to drive". Dad thought the whole thing was funny and was pleased I called him.

At 19, I fell asleep at the wheel in my Corvair. I was part off the road when I jerked the wheel and spun the butt around. The engine stalled and it wouldn't even crank. People must have seen me because dad was there in 15 minutes (days before cell phones). Someone had tried to boost the battery but it wouldn't even click. Dad walked up, looked at the gravel on the road, shook his head then put the jumper between the battery negative and the engine. It fired right up (bad ground). I went home and as we walked in the door, he told mom "Your son almost killed himself". Mom looked at me (not a scratch), said nothing and it was never discussed again. Now that I'm 64, I always carry snacks, cold drinks or pull over if I get sleepy

I've said it before....wish you covered the Mojave Desert to include the Mojave Road and Las Vegas area. The setup that you have for going off road is very creative. Leave the heavy tow truck near pavement and take the off-road vehicle to the site of the "broke" SUV, then haul both back to town. So, I guess I should limit my solo off roading to the Hurricane area. No tow facility around the Mojave Road will go more than 100 yards off pavement. So you are at the mercy of someone passing by and being a Good Samaritan. Great video. Thanks.

Mojave area is either inland empire 4x4 recovery, SoCal off-road recovery, or high desert 4x4 recovery. There’s a ton of groups out there that will do it just for the sheer fun of it, no charge

@@robdog1245 Thank you so much for the information. I will certainly look up each one and see if I am covered. I just could not find any groups on my own that specifically said they would cover the Mojave Road. I just like moving off road slowly, at my own pace. In groups you have to keep up. So If I wanted to stop to observe nature or get a photo, I would not be able to in a group. I would gladly pay for their fuel and time.

My XJ just randomly shut off for years. You'd go back later to diagnose it and drag it home and it would usually fire right up. Jeep eventually sent out a "recall" providing a wiring schematic and a length of wire and I had to do a bypass on the wiring under the dash. That seemed to cure it for the year before I sold it.

Make sure to use a Mopar crank position sensor.I made the mistake of replacing mine with an aftermarket one and it ran like shit!Spend the $100 on a genuine Mopar one,you will be good for another 18yrs.
