They don't mention the costs for many reasons, there is a video a couple years ago that he discusses why. If you figure the rigs are at least $100/hour, a recovery like this with multiple rigs taking a few hours you can start to get the picture. It also varies if it is just a matter of getting back to tarmac, or all the way back into town.

I used to Jeep a ton in Moab and St George and I always knew in the back of my mind that I was driving $50,000 around and that it could be wiped away at any wrong move. We worry primarily about rolling, and so anything less than that is happy bad fortune. Busted engine, busted knuckle (which happens to this Jeep months later), etc, those are affordable fixes and the $1000 it might take to recover the vehicle is just part of the cost of having fun.

Exactly! Given the location it broke down, the owner of the Jeep likely understands that time is the enemy. A great result getting it out with only a tiny bit of damage and A lot of talent to do that! So many great people in the offroad community, but there's a percentage that are vultures! And that's why it's best to get a stricken rig out as quick as possible. (Think - Geo episode) I can't count how many times I've been helped and helped others when stuck, but thankfully only one bad incident... I had a lovely 1980s Honda Big Red stuck in waist deep silt on MY property and someone in a hefty 4x4 saw it from the road, drove down to it, got it out and disappeared. Oh well, that's how life goes.
