I am afraid that in an era with ESG investors, we can get only some #######, with a lot of insults to consumers.-------- Edit: Sam Carter will be replaced with a castrated man and it will be discovered that it was secretly Sam who found the 7th symbol to connect to Ebydos. Tealc will get a couple of episodes dedicated to the gay romance between him and Jack ONeal, also Jakc will be black from now. And Daniel Jackson will have his IQ lowered to 50 and will become really annoying illogical and generally interfere with the performance of tasks.

heres the thing brad wright the og writer had it lined up. many of the cast from sg1 and atlantis said they would come back. amanda tapping (carter) said she wanted to direct a few episodes. the story was that many from sg1 and atlantis would come together to get the people from stargate universe home. that was the plan pitched and accepted by amazon. problem is word behind the scene was amazon scrapted that script and are doing something else. what ever they are doing is going to be hard to beat that for me.

I remember one of my favourite tv shows in the 80's The A-Team. My fav character, Mr T. And the show still continues to take in young audience. That´s how important it is to keep the style and spirit of SG1. SGA was a little darker sometimes, but still gave the audience what they wanted. They need to do a continuation, a next generation, with the existing cast in cameos, recurring and partially regular roles.

The single most important thing is that some of the old production/writing crew MUST be involved: Brad Wright, Joe Mallozzi, Martin Gero, Robert Cooper. Otherwise I have ZERO trust that whatever some other group of writers/producers comes up with will not be true to the original intent and style. See the vast majority of new Trek for an example of what I am referring to, or Star Wars for more evidence.

From the sounds of things, Brad Wright might be kept at arms length. Also, you need to consider that the IP needs to move on and be appealing to newer generations of people to survive and thrive, which may mean the formula and even the writers need to be different to be successful. Using the same formula as before could mean death for the franchise if it doesn't pull in the younger generations that have never seen older SG series before. While I agree with your sentiment, times change and at the end of the day it is a business and hard facts like a new viewer base may mean it might not be to your taste. Let's hope they walk that fine line well!

A reboot would need to be absolutely stellar, especially because the new series would immediately face the challenge of having to live up to the old (nostalgia) while redoing several story-beats where we already know the outcome. It would have to start seperating from how things evolve right from Anubis first and second season. I would much rather that we would continue in established universe, even based from earth where a new growing threat / challenge might bring Humans and Goa-uld together to face it together, or splinter them seeing this as a new chance to take a shot at Earth. It'd be awesome to see a much big "splinter" group like the Tok'ra where many of them are allies but a bigger section is either undecided or enemy. Simply having glowy eyes might not be enough to decide if you face friend or foe. Bringing Atlantis and Earth together would be awesome, but definatly expensive for sets / actors / etc. And bringing in Universe would be awesome, personally loved the new take SGU did, but again that's a whole new set / group of actors. Maybe not in the first season, but something down the line? Tone should be more on the episodic side, SGU worked as grittier because of the story, stuck on an exploration ship. If based on Earth or likewise outpost there should certainly be a story over the season(s) but like SG1 keeping most things episodic or dual-episodes would almost feel refreshing at this point where all series nowaday are effectively X-part movies telling one single story.

Depends on who writes it. Stargate was set in our time, there’s no reason to leap into the future, unless it only happens on other planets. Universe was way too dark for me and Ai never bought into the characters nor did I buy the DVDs. Let’s not go dark again. The world is already dark enough, we need light-hearted, humorous adventures, so casting will need to have the right chemistry for that to work well. My biggest concern is the new show not respecting the source material. The 2016 Ghostbusters movie is a prime example of this. If you took the main characters out, the Ghostbuster universe is inherently a horror movie. The comedy comes from the interaction of the characters and their world they find themselves in. With the 2016 movie, everything is slapstick comedy. The characters, the villain, the universe is all silly. Take the main characters out and the universe is still silly and slapstick. It doesn't take the concept of ghosts and the dead seriously. The newer Ghostbusters was, more or less, a return to the universe being a horror movie with comedic characters and that works. It's different than the original, but it respects the source material and theme and I'm ok with that. My fear is that the new Stargate show will run into the same problem. The new show could be a reboot on an alternate universe, which totally fits as it would leave open the possibility of original cast members making an appearance.

When I think how a reboot could work by starting over from the beginning, there's one particular way that stands out to me. Make it clear it's an alternate timeline where this story doesn't begin the same way as the Stargate movie and SG1. Instead, events could change and be delayed; such as instead of the gate being opened in the 90's with Jack O'Neill and Daniel Jackson another team opens it in the 2020's. This could even allow this new 2020's SGC to enlist the part-time help of characters like Daniel Jackson, but keeping them from going through the gate all the time like in SG1. This 30 year difference could alter the events and fates of the System Lords, Asgardians, Jaffa and Tok'ra; allowing for new and interesting stories. I feel like this would be a new way to make it new and fresh but keeping it respectable and recognizable.

I know, i know this treaty sounds like Startreks federation but this division would be more investigators of crimes than explorers (yes, i can see how that can intersect which is also fine) .... However, the will villains within the world's in the treaty AND from outside the treaty. Thoughts?

If it was a continuation set in the same universe and didn't retcon anything from the show/movies, it stayed faithful to what Stargate was and maybe had cameos from original cast members, then I would watch it for sure. If it were a reboot or they changed things too much, made the show look and feel a bit too different than SG1, Atlantis and SGU, then probably not.

It has to have a similar “feel” to it. Stargate Universe lost some of that feel, to its detriment. Even at its darkest (like when SG1 went, literally, to hell) SG1 and Atlantis never took themselves too seriously. They knew they were a fun and somewhat cheesy sci-fi series, so while they told big stories with well written characters, they still gently winked at the audience with lines like “I thought we were going with Red Leader on this one”, “Sir, we can’t call it The Enterprise”, and from the pilot “it took us 15 years and 3 computers to MacGyver a system for the gate on Earth.” It was also, aside from the pilot movie and a couple of early episodes like Hathor, fairly family friendly. They even went back and removed the more family unfriendly moments from the pilot in its rerelease later on. This is something modern Star Trek has struggled with, with shows like Discovery and Picard showing extreme gore (Icheb) and very strong language (the f-bombs on Discovery are a far cry from Kirk’s “double dumb ass on you”). Star Trek seems to have realized this and Strange New Worlds seems to be largely avoiding it. Stargate Universe was notably less family friendly, especially early on, and I fear that this may have hurt its audience retention. I have two real fears with a new show. First, they try to actually pull off something like that “teen SG1” joke from the episode 200. Second, that they go the “Reboot: The Guardian Code” route and create a show with a very few ties to the original show other than a couple of names, where the showrunners actively dislike and take pains to mock fans of the original show. Having said this, changes are not inherently bad. SG1 is a very different beast from the movie and all the better for it. I love Stargate and I’m going to give whatever they put out a try. I just hope it’s a worthy follow up to the legacy that is already there.

one of the biggest issues that I saw with Stargate shows as they progressed was it is a story founded on fantasy but grounded in hard science fiction. Certain scientific "rules" siloed stories that were able to be told. For example, the 38-minute rule or the Zat gun 3 shot rule. Toward the end of the original show i definitely felt as though the ran out of stories to tell because everything was basically solved. One of the greatest reasons that Startrek was able to be so successful is that the show was purely science and exploration based - there was always something new to be discovered (even if sometimes the stories were bad/boring) For me personally i think it would be great to see a show that leaned in more to the historical fantasy/folklore that Stargate is based such as the ancient Egyptians, Norse Mythology and Camelot's court. definitely don't leave out the scientific portions of the show. use that more as a plot device to progress things forward.

In my opinion there is one thing they could do, to reboot it without rebooting it. Start it in a hole different galaxy, not earth. Or move to another ancient outpost, for example bable, the installation that helps the universe languages not drift that much. So they can still understand each other. For me the most important things about Stargate where: - Problem of the weak conzept - a relatable cast - a look into future technologies, science and possible issues - an over arching narative with for humans unredeamable villains - character developement - the "good" guys make mistake, someone else could see as evil - characters can die

I love Stargate. It has a universe with a lot of possibilities. The only thing it has to do is to slow down its spatial expansion and find other ways to get a newish feeling setting. What i mean by that is that SG1 used up the milkyway galaxy, Atlantis used up a second galaxy and Universe a whole bunch of galaxies. I would love to have a time skip into the future. Because earth feels always the same. I would love to have a setting some decades into the future, one in which humanity knows whats happening and in which the whole earth works towards a goal. Kinda like StarTrek in its timelinewise early stages. What can also be seen as problematic in my opinion is that StarGate uses up its enemys kinda early and only allow smaller threads within the known and already "cleared" areas. In StarWars on the other hand there are inner conflicts like with the always competing 2 sides of the force or with the seperatists and the republic. StarGate needs to creat a setting in which longterm content is a possibility and with many different branches that are all happening in this already introduced world and definitely not in a new one. Thats my opinion.

While there have always been so many possibilities to explore within this franchise it's always gonna be difficult if not impossible to please everyone and recapture the essence of what they did back in the late nineties through to the early noughties but I loved the way they rounded off the SG-1 and Atlantis while so many shows were prone to being cancelled prematurely or given such terrible endings so the show despite Stargate Universes failings and any other can forever remain self contained in my eyes and anything that comes after whether it suceeds or not is a bonus and can't take anything away from the original. With that said it would be nice to see a contuation rather than a reboot along with some spin offs and prequels or some episodes which look to and reference the past. Another good idea would be to tell the story of the Stargate from a completly different perpective, maybe through the eyes of a different world/civilisation on an alien planet, one which leads to them eventually discovering earth that way you could recast and reboot in a sense without harming the original or divurging into different timelines and multiverses and possibly include some overlaps and head nods to the original stories told if that makes sense. With that said if we were to have a continuation I think it needs to be something hard hitting and impactful from the outset. BSG did a great job with their reboot for example cos it had so many interesting twists and turns that always kept you guessing along with some deep layered plots and deep analysis of love/religion and exploring the essence of what it means to be human but I don't think Stargate needs to be quite as deep and intrinsic. Stargate for me was always about being a lil playful, exploring new worlds, discovering new civilisations while incorporating some mythology into the mix like with the hyroglyphs and ancient egyptian references while Atlantis was more about discovering new technologies that would someday advance our own civilisation if ever the Stargate program were to go public which is the direction I felt things were heading when Atlantis finally returned home and it seemed like Earth was no longer secretly hidden among the stars making outside threats much more likely that we'd be left with no choice but to disclose what had been happening to the public. While we can't reclaim and bring back the nostalgia of the 90's I don't think we need a modern day take either with as some people would say a bunch of political wokeness thrown in so maybe jumping ahead into a future where the Stargate program and the techologies we discovered are more incorporated into society would be a safer bet and then maybe you could also jump back in time showing how things came to pass and how the world became more unified. Kinda like the way Star Trek was always set in a future where humanity had already resolved it's differences but skimmed over the fact of how it came to be. A united world where aliens walk among us. A world in which it wouldn't be uncommon for us to have Goa'uld and Asgard leaders within our own governments. A world where Teal'c of Chulak is President of the United Earth Nations maybe? There could also be other nuances explored like how the effects of a rapidly fast unfolding alien technological revolution impacts the world and creates some dystopian type aspects to life on Earth betwen the rich and the poor. While it needs to be a light hearted show it could still have some dark gritty undertones to it as we don't wanna jump too far ahead into the future where everyone's living in perfect harmony and technology is so advanced there's nothing else left to discover but rather see how those new technologies are gradually integrated into society and the benefits as well as the problems they may bring with them. A world where getting a symbiote is as common as getting a tattoo where as you might have others who deny all the technology and aliens that would like nothing more than to put an end to the Stargate program but primarily it needs to be about exploring new worlds and coming up with some more formidable and memorable enemies. Unfortunately no matter how many good ideas I come up with in my mind I'm not sure how well they'd translate to screen. I feel like people are gonna hate on it no matter what if it strays too far from the original much like everyone seemed to hate on Star Trek Discovery even though that had some good potential to turn into something better which albeit eventually came in the form of Strange New Worlds but who knows how long that'll last and if they'll get back to the practice of actually exploring new worlds and discovering new life forms without turning it into a shallow parody of its former self. At the end of the day if we don't try we'll never know but best to set ya expectations low cos these shows are classics for a reason and some shows and cast members will forever remain irreplaceable but even a shitty reboot can help keep the memory of the old show alive and possibly inspire better ones in future so on that basis I say go for it. Test the waters first with a mini series like BSG did first if you have to and then providing that's a success throw everything you have at it. No half measures or cutting corners on the budget or cutting seasons down and cancelling shit without at least some strategy to wrapping the story up nicely so it can be carried on in future. While it would be nice to have another 10 golden seasons with 20+ episodes I'd like to see at least 6 or 7 really good ones with no less than 12 episodes per season but much like GTA6 it's been so long coming now I'm not sure if it can ever live up to expectations no matter how good it is but we can dream lol

After a significant hiatus, setting a new Stargate series in another galaxy offers a fresh start while maintaining a connection to Earth. Featuring Earth in a cameo or support role allows old fans to adjust to a new cast and storyline smoothly. This approach lets Earth transition into a more bureaucratic role, providing continuity without overshadowing the new, adventurous narrative. The new setting offers a clean slate for character development and plot exploration, free from the constraints of previous storylines. Stationing the new series in the Milky Way poses a challenge: any new enemy would need a plausible reason for escaping detection by Atlantis, the galaxy's powerful defensive asset. An enemy suddenly appearing without explanation would seem far-fetched, while an overwhelmingly powerful foe would feel contrived. By relocating the series to another galaxy, the introduction of new adversaries becomes more credible and compelling. This fresh setting allows for diverse and authentic threats to evolve organically within the story, maintaining the suspense and excitement that fans expect. In today's Hollywood, an Earth-based series risks becoming overly political and divisive. Instead of fostering critical reflection, the narrative might alienate viewers by focusing on contentious issues. By setting the series in another galaxy, the show gains creative freedom to explore universal themes without the baggage of current political climates. This setting enables the writers to craft stories that are thought-provoking and engaging without being mired in real-world controversies, ensuring the series remains accessible and enjoyable to a broad audience. Setting the Stargate series in another galaxy offers numerous advantages: it provides a fresh start while honoring Earth's legacy, ensures the plausibility of new threats, and avoids divisive political narratives. This new setting grants the show the creative freedom needed to thrive, promising a captivating and adventurous continuation of the beloved franchise.

One idea for a new show could come from the perspective of people on a planet which has not been touched by the original SG-1 series. It could pick up all these years later with some distant remnants of Goa'uld and Jaffa that were separate from the System Lords and also unaffected by SG-1. They could have been growing their forces and expanding their knowledge all this time. They could start to venture back to the gates they had had not visited for over a century to start discovering what happened to the System Lords and begin learning about the people of Earth. This would be a great way to bring in new fans and also get long time fans excited. I definitely want to see SGU remerge once they reach the next galaxy and come out of stasis and David Blue is ready to catch us up on what he had to do to keep that ship functional and most of the crew alive in stasis all this time. There are so many great opportunities to explore more stories.

Too many of today’s writers/producers strive to subvert expectations which results in attempting to dismantle what has been established. This inevitably offends fans of existing material. In addition fun & entertainment gets lost due to an insistence on delivering “the message”. If they focus on telling great stories and avoid focusing on preaching (ie. SGU) I will give them a chance.

I have to say, the reboot of Star Trek was what got me interested in the franchise, I was still a little kid watching "Into darkness" I loved the vibes and the feeling. Today I have seen all Star Trek shows also Stargate and Babylon 5 and a few other scyfy shows like Andromeda. I understand the complains of some trek fans about "new trek" but I have to say that this new "chapter" has helped to get a lot of new fans, that also watched the older shows. I prefer scyfy to be deep, philosophical, trippy, it is best if complex new ideas or technology is shown, creative writing and good characters are important. Scyfy is about our future, it can both inspire and warn. I think what Stargate did very good was the focus on evolution, not just technology but also the human spirit. If humans become similar to the gods, will we be good guys or bad guys or something completly new. Trek has almost "normal" people. They are not so much of a utopia as star trek. The show feals very real and grounded. The politics are realistic and the cast very likable. It feels like a small movie to watch every episode. I have only love and respect for the people working hard and producing shows to inspire people. Scyfy is in the end just that. This is why I do not mind a reboot. I would of course have lots ideas for how to do it. I would also love a sequel. To see how this world evolved.

I think having it set in present day for the most part, but start off by continuing where SG1 and Atlantis left off to catch us up then lead it up where Universe starts. I believe keeping original casts in but as guest appearances relative to the timeline Maybe open it up to the public but I'm not fussed either way

I’d try it, but given the state Star Wars and Star Trek, I’d just assume leave the franchise in the past. They were a product of their time and will always be entertaining, but with what studios inject into these IPs now, anything promising would be compromised due to studio interference.

Either way I'm pumped Stargate is back on the table! I'm fine with everything mentioned except the alternative time lines.

No to reboot/alternate timeline. New cast but expanding from the original shows with cameos would be fine.
