Would you Drive over the Brookport Bridge at Night?
The Brookport Bridge is known by many to be anxiety-inducing. It's narrow lanes and metal grid deck make it tricky to drive across. At night.. It's even tougher.

I drove over every day except Sunday (my day off from work) for several years. One way was always in the dark. Still have occasional nightmares as I was hit by a drunk driver about midway on an icy, rainy day but walked away unhurt. Angels must hover around this bridge.
worst-case scenario; imagine driving on this bridge at night, then driving through fog and then suddenly your headlights go out. THAT would be terrifying!

I was an Army truck driver in Korea. The narrow roads over there are terrifying, especially at night. No clue how I didn't get into an oncoming crash on one of those narrow 2 lane roads

@Ce Lim and it's pouring *snow* and it's high wind, and engine just shut off and nobody else is on that bridge... on top of that it's 3am.

I’ve been through this bridge at night in fog with snow in a van with someone else at the wheel
Add some nighttime autumn fog and you’ll have a classic thriller scene!
The only scary part to me is A) the constant cars on this bridge B) how bright headlights are and how much wider cars are these days and C) how damn narrow the bridge is

Also no highway reflectors on the guide rails.
I watched this video a while back and when we were going to Illinois and I saw this bridge and got instant flashbacks to this vid I was freaking out to my mom and she said it won’t be that bad and when she got off she said “you weren’t lying”
The best part of this bridge is when you get off
its debatable whats scarier about this bridge, the bridge itself or the uninviting sound it makes

The Bridge itself. It’s narrow and since it’s made out of a metal grade instead of concrete, it tries to force your steering wheel out of your hands.

The sound
The only nightmares I have anymore are of crossing different types of terrifying bridges. Surprisingly after finding your channel, I wanna see more of these videos! 👍

Try the i-10 bridge In lake Charles Louisiana it's very old and steep incline but fun if you can handle the height and age of it

I've seen other videos of people crossing this bridge. It's sad how this death trap wasn't torn down and replaced decades ago.
I drove over this bridge once, in the daylight, and was so terrified, that my husband had to drive, and I covered my eyes the entire time across, so I would never want to drive or ride over it at night. I am terrified of heights, and the older I get the worse I get.
Oh he'll Na,and what makes it worst is that it's totally dark.

The faster you go the easier it is to handle. Driven it more times than I'd have liked to.

Sounds Like A Recipe For Disaster
Hey Frank, we finished building the unstable, narrow bridge. How many lights should we put on it? Frank: Idk man it’s good enough, let’s just call It done.

Holy H*** ...I could NEVER 👎 do that hon...❣️Those headlights of oncoming traffic...Wow!!! Blinding 🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤
I would not drive it at night. I would not drive it at day. I would not drive it for fun. I would not drive it for pay.
This bridge has no lights on it. Crazy
Thanks for the upcoming nightmares! 😂
Definitely doesn't instill a lot of confidence while you're driving over it
Many years ago lots of old steel bridges had perforated decks like that that make your tires sing as you drove over them. I always thought they were cool as a kid. I'd look out the back seat window through the deck and see the water underneath us. As a driver they do make your steering feel a bit weird though.
No lights. Imagine breaking down there.
This is like exposure therapy since I have nightmares about crossing high narrow bridges
I’ve watched a video of a car driving on this bridge in the daytime, but this one was creepy! It is completely dark, the only lights are the vehicle headlights. Thanks for the upload! 👍
I remember the concrete deck during winter of 77. Steel deck at night was fun in winter also.

Forgot about the snow and ice the new bridge just lets it fall through! Much safer!
It's bad enough to drive over during the day. Try it when it's raining it's really bad. It closes when it snows so that's a good thing.
I have drove semis , and tandem trucks across it years ago , when trucks could use it.
That is batshit crazy. Imagine if this bridge plan was a bridge plan of today in the present. It wouldnt get passed no sir
You should do the cannonball. Another southern Illinois Bridge that scares loads. St Francisville Illinois. Used to be a train bridge
My anxiety just watching this 📈📈📈📈
I heard about this bridge. I'm good, even in the daytime. If I were to go into KY, I'll stick with 24. I don't even see myself going over Shawneetown bridge from what I saw on YTube, but then I can get very easily skittish driving on certain roads and bridges. Chances are, as a passenger, day or night, I'd be more afraid of this Brookport Bridge than being on 64 to St. Louis. And that is super scary enough.
I do it all the time on my bike. The slower the scarier. It's like it makes a Harley Davidson Road King do the Cha Cha.

Of all places weather and surfaces those preferoated expanded metal causeways are the worst. Right up there with black ice in the hills.
It's a wonderful bridge rode and drove over it many times excellent views of the Ohio river. Was over it long before they put the steel deck in. Remember Sam Burrage driving over it for Channel 6 news the day it reopened with the new deck installed. We always called it the old Paducha bridge. Guess it depends on which side you live as to what you call it.
The only tjhing that scares me about is the fact it was built a long time ago and opened in 1929. I'm sure they maintain it but then again those are just words as I'm not sure at all. lol It does get a lot of traffic including heavy truck traffic.
now I want to drive across this bridge
My worst nightmare....
MORE EXCITING THAN EVER AT NIGHT SWARMING BEE LIKE SOUNDTRACK ON ROUTE GLARE OF HEADLIGHTS EVIL EYES THE TRIP OVER THE BRIDGE OF UNCERTAINTY YOU HOPE YOU WILL MAKE IT.
You're a brave soul my friend.
Try driving any of these bridges in Trenton,NJ so much worse: Trenton Makes World Takes (Lower Trenton), Calhoun Street Bridge, West Trenton Bridge & Washington Crossing Bridge in Trenton, NJ area are 4 Bridges all scary as hell, grates to drive on, not alot of room etc... makes that bridge look simple...
I already have many times both day and night I love the sound of it my aunts live in Ky. I in Ohio. But also as a trucker this is awesome.
It’s like the current McCluggage bridge here in Peoria Illinois. It’s thin and narrow until they finish building the new one
Look like a nice place for The Creeper to wait.
I did drive over rhis Bridge a few years back... it was scary...
My idea of hell on earth
I wouldn't have a problem with it. There's a similar bridge in Taylor, BC, Canada that I have driven on hundreds of times. Including at night. Narrow lanes, graded metal deck, no problem.
Nope that's crazy
I'd rather drive over that bridge than driving thru Chicago at night .
Hello, I subscribed

Built when there were less cars. No lights?
I remember driving on this bridge down to Columbia and Tallahassee so many times both day and night and scare the beloving Jesus out of me but in a good way
It would be safer than most other stretches in that part of the world. No chance of hitting a deer.
Wow!
Never have seen a bridge that long that is unlit.
MAN its a shame one on the old Ledbetter bridge will never be done. That dogleg was always nuts.
This reminds me of a train ride
Yes.
Honestly, doesn't look too bad. I think Astoria bridge in OR/WA is tougher to cross.
I have driven across it at night really don’t care for it then or in the daytime.
I have walk and rode my bicycle across as a kid
This whole channel is about bookpork bridge
Unbelievable!!! That bridge has no street lights. Street lights or some other form of lighting might help to make it more bearable at night.

Have reflectors installed on the bridge guide rails.
Maybe they could build a second bridge next to this one and have each one just one lane going one way...... and the other the opposite.
If you ever make it to the Quad Cities IA/IL check out the Government Bridge in downtown Davenport
Why make the deck metal, I hate this 😩

snows in IL we get all seasons and that area floods a lot wouldn't want standing water or snow on bridge
Oncoming headlights are blinding.
I don’t really see what’s so scary about it other than it being severely narrow but then again I don’t think I’ve been on this bridge for years if ever because I’m pretty sure my family always took the i24 bridge when we went to Paducah. Still doesn’t seem that bad to me though. I plan on going over it this summer.

I would be afraid Id come up on a disabled car that couldnt pull over to the shoulder & remain out of the lane of traffic crossing the bridge. I gotta believe cars have broken down while crossing & it would be very easy to be on top of a stopped vehicle leaving little to no reaction time. No thanks!!
No thankyou.
Where are the lights on the bridge.?

lights on the bridge lol
Why are there no lights on it?
Not no but hell no.
That would be a big no bruhhhh………
Why does the nighttime video of this bridge remind me of the Crybaby Bridge videos???
I don't see how anyone can stand going over this bridge ever. I'd take the 24 bridge but never this one.
oh, hell nah.
I have many times!! Im from Paducah so its nothing for me. I feel safer on this bridge than the I24 ohio river bridge anyday!
I have
What's up with it?
I grew up in metropolis, it’s a big fuck no from me.
At night you can't see the water, not as scary!
Isn't the speed limit 25mph? I don't prefer metal bridges, but at 25 mph... idk.
Need a new bridge no lights no break down lane
I wouldn’t even ride my bike
Why are your videos so old why no new videos?
No or in the day time. Hawthorne neither. Vehicle be wanting to go all over the Place
No way
Speed limit is 25
I've ridden across many bridges from v.a. to g.a. to m.d. don't scare me it's mind over matter now my city people have jumped off of our bridge to commit suicide why just this year alone a dude jumped off of the bridge r.i.p. my homie mark a.k.a. bus.
😶😶😶😨😰😨😧😦😨😱 😑😑😑😐😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬 Hell no!!!!
NOPE!
No
Yes! The only possible drawback would be any cowardly drivers that might be around...
Chester IL bridge is Worse. There is no light Whatsoever. Not even buildings if you are going to St Mary Missouri on it
Yeah do not ever
No thank you, ill pass.
Nope.
Not me. Awful bridge
I must be missing something it’s just a bridge 🤷♀️
Na i’ll just cross this bridge virtually thank you 😊
No
