I loved it 😍 Maybe you can do a social experiment in which you go to a restaurant and while ordering you find out that you have missing some money so you can't pay all your bill. So you can see if koreans are willing to complete your bill but just by maybe 500 or 1000 wons. I don't know if that is too much

I think it’s because a lot of times when Koreans speak English, their accent can be heard and sometimes it’s really thick so people make fun of them. Some are kinda “shy” when speaking English, even if they’re fluent

He's not a liar I think. He can't speak english very well, he probably say that he can't speak english 'cause he was scared that jayke might ask for a direction or something like this and that he cannot explain to him. @Lester Nygaard I suppose so. I lived in Hawaii and I've had people ask to borrow my phone but all of them actually needed to make a call. Perhaps I was lucky or people in Hawaii are generally just nice people. Be careful though, phones hold a lot of information that can easily be manipulated

My friend actually got her phone stolen that way in the US. A black girl came up to her and asked to borrow her phone and then ran with it. My friend was only like 13 that time and she didnt reflex fast enough so she lost the phone.

As a Korean, I am wondering if lending your phone to someone in need is actually rare in other societies. I think most people would let their phone use if someone ask you for help in any society. It is not that hard but a minimal way of showing your humanity to the someone who really need a help.

I just thought it can't be the topic of the social experiment because we carry the similar notion of humanity if someone asks you for help and it is hard to say "NO" to the face of people who need help. If you see a dog or a cat starving on the street, I am sure we wouldn't ignore. Thanks to you, I have picked up a new learning about the different society.

This makes me happy and sad at the same time ... happy to see such helpful kind humans and sad because I've experienced three occasions where a Spanish speaking person or family has asked to borrow a phone on the greyhound bus and Americans got annoyed and didn't help them or bother trying. Even without speaking Spanish its easy to tell with gestured they wanted to make a phone call and every time it was just to call the person meeting them at the bus station destination, and I was shocked at the people near me got annoyed they needed help but didn't speak English well. Americans 🙄

This reminds me when I was on short research attachment at one of univs there in 2012. I was lost at night (couldnt find my place LOL) on my first day. I simply asked a passerby to use his phone and he easily handed his phone without long thought. Koreans basically helpful even if some of them dont really speak English really well they nevertheless will try to help you out!

Sophie No (which isn’t only in English btw) is a pretty well known word. People who don’t speak a language with it would probably still understand it. It’s kind of like how you probably know sí as yes in Spanish.
