There is no buzz aside from people not connected to the team making assumptions based on acquisitions. Iffy is a safety and will start. Branch is a slot and will start.

@TheSpeakEZPodcast what he said was that he was versatile and could play both, and they could put more on his plate now. Immediately followed up by we don't want to move him and risk losing him as a nickel "so you have to find the balance" which i took as adding the safety role to his plate and in the event of injury he can shift to safety which is probably why we didnt do a lot extra with the position thus far. He'll play nickel as a starter and move to safety if theres an injury to Iffy or Kerby and now that we have Robertson he or noe Rakestraw could play nickle in that situation. Which keeps the best guys on the field, which is what Glenn wants to do in the secondary. Best 5 will play. But tomato tomotto

Just gotta accept one of the safeties is out and I think it’s kerby iffy is to light in the pockets to take on lineman

Must be a Michigan State fan to still be spelling our best defensive players name wrong in year 3.

When is the last time the Lions had the problem of how to get all the good players some time? There is real depth on this Lions team. The bottom 5 players may be good enough to start for some of the weaker NFL teams (Carolina, Denver, New England, Washington, Giants, etc). I expect Rakestraw to be a backup for at least the first 6 games or so. He may get his first starts due to injuries as the season go on.

You know what? We have one weakness on our defense and Iffy would erase that. Have him play linebacker 3rd down and cover tight ends. Boom. Iffy and Brian Branch are positionless guys that fit well wherever you play them.

Teams need 4 great corners to win a Super Bowl. Branch isn't moving to safety, Good Lord. Ifee is going to dominate at safety. Sure take a great huge Safety and turn him into a average LB. Like Glenn making the Lions best tackler play FB, making the Lions best pass rusher Houston cover TEs. Can't wait to see Draft picks #1 & #2 sitting on the bench next to them. Jack Campbell got ran over all year 3-5 yards down field instead of Rodriguez who hits the hole faster than anyone. Brad can draft them doesn't mean Aaron Glenn knows what the hell to do with them.

Seattle is done with Adams who never played for them just took a large pay check yr after yr. Adams is 5'9" sure line him up at LB.

IF they move him to LB it has to be that Viper/Superstar position as that hybrid spot. Can run support and cover TEs and backs. Rather have him at Saftey tho. Just have different defensive packages for these guys(Branch, Iffy)

He has the body type to do it. There is precedent for it. Deone Bucannon & Mark Barron are a couple that have done it. Iffy is very similar to those guys.

This makes no sense. Why would you move 2 people off their normal positions? Injuries happen, rotations happen. I dont see Branch being moved to safety, Iffy was an incredible playmaker down the stretch last yr. So why are we wanting to change their positions?

The amount of players you guys say “dont expect them to be ___” you would think our team is ass 11:16

Trade him? He’s projected to be a starting safety. Branch is not moving to full time safety after spending all of his rookie season at nickel and being one of the best at it in the entire league. Why would you waste that equity and move him full time to a brand new position where his play could decline instead of almost assuredly improve if he stays at nickel? Why? Why would they do that? Will he expand his role and learn some safety so they can use him there in some sets to keel him on the field and as depth at safety. Yeah, that is pretty much what Brad Holmes said. Also, we would not have a player to step in for Branch at nickel that would be anywhere near as good. You’ve now downgraded nickel, made a lateral move for Branch for no reason, and either benched Iffy for no reason or moved to Lb where he has never played. You like Iffy? Don’t trade him and keep him at his f’ing position. Just because Branch learns safety doesn’t mean you switch positions of multiple starters that just had good season. Geez man.

Also, if we trade Iffy now we have basically one full time starting safety in Joseph , Branch moving over to safety I guess in your opinion, a downgrade at nickel whoever takes his place (rakes or Amik - Amik is a much better outside corner and people think he's a better nickel cause he's short), and CJ Moore as our only backup? And the reason for this is because you worry about Iffy not being able to play? I just did a quick search on how often nickels are in the game and the first number the came back is 90%. Even if that's high, it's up there. So if Branch plays nickel 90% of the snaps and then takes his other 10 from Iffy, Iffy still has 90% to work with at safety as long as he earns. I'd say Branch remaining a potential all-pro nickel, keeping our starters at safety, using Branch as a 3rd or 4th safety, and not blowing up their progress this offseason in the secondary is probably a better way to go.
