I honestly think this could have been a really cool power if it wasn't so slow For example, you get to do basically the same thing in the real crash 4 by slowing down time and running on nitro crates before they blow up, and it feels so much better to do because it's faster

​@@susiehaltmann3342 It's still the same principle. It's just that on Wrath of Cortex the power up was heavily situational to the point of being boring and seem useless, while the Crash 4 version is fun to use and can help in situations that don't feel forced.

You forget to mention that the Crash 3 power-ups are in Wrath of Cortex. Also, not only did the tiptoe power-up let you walk on nitro boxes for the first time ever, but it also taught me patience. Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex is the most underrated Crash game in existence!

I think it would’ve been cool if you had the ability to call the robot suit instead of this. Like that would be sick to run around as mech crash that had some armor that could tank some hits

I like how Toys for Bob not only ignored WoC (and all other Games after Warped) storywise, but also introduced an "avoiding Nitro crates" mechanic that is a millions times better as an additional F you.

Lmao I was just listening to the OST and was thinking the same thing. As a kid I didn’t even know it let you walk on nitros! I could never beat that one bonus round I remember, or if I did I just slid into everything with uka ukas lmao. The rest of the power ups were pretty good though, I think.

@@mwperk02 Yah, albeit since I was probably 8 or 9, I probably ignored it 🤣. I think my child brain so was conditioned to stay away from nitros that when I missed the explanation there was just no hope. Didn’t hinder me from loving the game tho

Yeah I learned much later that sneaky sneak was for walking on top of nitro crates that you don't really do a lot in the game

“Power-Down”

My hot take, the slide jump mechanics from Crash 2 were perfect. Deceptively simple where it didn't feel like a solid series lost its mind with double jump reliance, yet its slight air lag let you perform all sorts of crazy stunts. Best of all the slide jump wasn't a gimic power up that became relevant after the first boss or something like that; it was a default tool that you used since the game's beginning and spent your playthrough discovering just how broken it can be as you abuse it to survive. The right mix of power and good fundamentals.

Yeah. I hate how in 3 the game even has little signs telling you which power you're supposed to use. Contrived af. In my experience, the pinnacle of platforming mechanics is in Mario Sunshine. Incredibly satisfying and fun.

Yeah I 100% agree with you, the powerups from crash 3 are pretty mixed for me and definitely not as awesome as this video made them out to be, the fruit bazooka basically just let you cheese every level by giving you the opportunity to destroy enemies and nitro crates before they could even be a possible threat to crash, made the game way too easy. The double jump in crash 3 also kind of sucks since you have to hit the jump button at a very specific time in the air to actually use the double jump, it can be very frustrating if you die because you tapped the button at the wrong time and crash didn’t do a double jump. Imo wrath of cortex actually massively improved the double jump by allowing the player to execute it anytime in the air after the 1st jump.

I think its best to pretend weath of cortex doesn't exist

Warrh of cortex still is not that bad game. I really like the levels where Crash was inside the ball,the helicopter level was also pretty good. And I remember seeing bazooka in the Wrath of Cortex. I generally dislike Coco levels in the game,since coco was kinda weaker compared to Crash 3. But,the bosses were hella perfect. Still,nothing beats the Original Trilogy.

Yeah but super belly flop was also stupid. You could crush crates without it in Crash 2. Plus there are no metal crates in Crash 3 warp room 1 that force you to redo the level with super belly flop, so the power up was ultra useless

Ngl the super belly flop, the fruit bazooka, and the double jump we’re all pretty mid power-ups imo, the fruit bazooka basically let you completely cheese and the game and completely abolished the already reduced level of challenge in the game, the double jump is annoying as hell because it has to be executed during a specific time when crash is in the air and if you tap it at the wrong time it doesn’t work. Imo the double jump was actually done way better in crash Twoc because you could execute it anytime in the air after the 1st jump. And finally the super belly flop is literally just a slightly better version of the belly flop from crash 2 nothing really interesting there.

but all those cool power ups shown are also in WoC… funny

Rise and Shine is decent, Waiting is a complete waste of time and Fungus Among Us sucks aside from the satisfying ending and the dumbass popularity of the game Among Us has ruined it for me even further. Spy Buddies is awesome, Boat Smarts is bad, Squidward boating school episodes could have had so much potential but they fucked up with every single one, Boating Buddies (s6) and Yellow Pavement (s13) after this. Well, at least we got a SpongeBob and Squidward rivalry episode in Good Ol' Whatshisname even if it doesn't truly stand out in any way.

It's sad that most of the Great games end as trylogies and then get milked by everything and it's visible by the quality, mostly copypasta I don't count spin offs like crash team Racing

What bothers me about the tiptoe power up isn’t that it’s lame visually compared to other power-ups (all of which are still in WoC, of course), but because there are few circumstances where one might want to use it. It only works on lines of specific Nitro Crates. Not just any Nitro Crates, but specific ones. See, most Nitro Crates bounce periodically, and trying to tiptoe across one of those will cause it to explode. Tiptoeing only fails to detonate Nitro Crates that don’t bounce periodically. And that is the only benefit tiptoeing has: allowing you to traverse across lines of specific Nitro Crates, and only if the top of the first one aligns with something else you can walk on. Contrast this with other power-ups, which can be used in a variety of contexts-some of which may not have been intended, even-and in terms of usefulness, the tiptoe power-up just falls flat. The Death Tornado allows for extended air time and also functions as a useful attack for breaking crates (including metal ones), activating switches, or defeating enemies; in WoC, it also allows you to swim faster for some reason. The double jump can allow for increased height, increased distance, or course-correction when jumping, as well as allowing you to grab something below the level of a platform then still reach that platform without landing in-between. The belly flop and its super variant are primarily used to break metal crates but also function to break multihit crates in one jump and to increase the hitbox of the landing for defeating enemies or breaking crates; it also allows you to immediately cancel your horizontal momentum, which can be useful. Slide jumps (can’t remember if that was a power-up) give you amazing height and distance in a single jump in exchange for a set arc, relative difficulty pulling it off, etc. The Crash Dash allows you to go fast, mostly used for Time Relics but also useful for timed obstacles or for evasion. And the Fruit Bazooka lets you break crates, toggle switches, and defeat enemies from a distance, which is particularly useful for dealing with Nitro Crates and, to a lesser extent, TNT crates but also comes in handy in other cases. For the GBA games, we also have the super jump and super slide, which are useful for gaining a lot of height or a lot of speed from a standstill, respectively. All of those abilities have a lot of utility (some more than others, to be sure, but still a lot of utility). The tiptoe ability is just way too niche and doesn’t do enough to justify its inclusion. Maybe if it worked on _any_ Nitro Crate, it might be okay, but as it is, it is way too situational. Lines of non-bouncing Nitro Crates just don’t appear in the game often enough.

What exactly is the point of the super flop? The regular flop, isn't exactly useful, and already can break reinforced crates, so what's teh point?

Wrath of cortex was so fucking bad. But not so bad that it makes it good. But the music was top tier. That's it.
