WSU's Martin Stadium is a great feel. That building was part of the remodel as it's the football operations building and it's so tight in there that's where they aligned it.

Should’ve seen Martin Stadium before 2007. Renovations went for a few years until the CFC (Cougar Football Complex) was built. Half the stadium is built into a hill so any expansion of that is upward, which is what they did with more boxes. One of the smallest stadiums in PAC-12 (it might be THE smallest) which is actually what makes it enjoyable to go to.
@oldguysrock2170 Жыл бұрын
Double deck stadiums are overrated. Lowering the field and removing tracks is a better improvement. The LA Coliseum used to have a teach and seating was like 30 yards if not more away from the field. SC removed the track and shoved the field into the closed end zone making it a much better viewing stadium. Cal has an ancient stadium but steep seating, best viewing stadium I have ever been in, but the bench seats suck.
@nickmeara532311 ай бұрын
Rice's Stadium made sense when it was built they were in the Southwest Conference with Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, Texas Tech, TCU, SMU, Houston, & Arkansas while being in the Houston metro area. At the time college football was more of a "butts in seats" rather than "eyes on screen" money maker.

I'm noticing a trend here with these very academic schools having the worst football stadiums (Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Duke, Rice) all of them are by far the best schools academically in their conference
@Jamessmith-xk3fh

That's because they don't put a lot of money in football. Just imagine if Kansas and Duke since they are already basketball powers focused now on building up football more since they have the built in power for basketball

It's a smaller conference but Hawaii in the MWC has got to have the worst college football stadium in Division 1. It's supposed to be temporary but that temporary looks to be going on for many more years with no permanent stadium in sight to even get started building anytime soon.
@cheezeninja13 Жыл бұрын
As a KU fan, I gotta say the one of the underrated problems with the stadium is the parking. You would think it would be easy to find parking for a KU game of all places but the only lot nearby is the size of a Chipotle parking lot so you gotta park really far away and walk.

I feel for you guys. Amazing hoops but some alum has got to step up and drop some cheddar for your football stadium. Hopefully that 300mill DG mentioned is gonna happen. It's tough enough recruiting when you have a nice stadium/facilities. Don't need extra challenges. Oregon State has two Billionaire alums. We got an anonymous 50mill donation for our stadium completion 2 years ago that covered 1/3 of the add-on. So, hopefully Kansas can go to its alums and get a decent stadium.
@teacherjoe7019 Жыл бұрын
As 2 people commented, the building in the end zone is the football operations building. Players can workout year round looking down at the field. Locker rooms, meeting rooms, dining are all available to the team with coaching offices on the top floor. It's a great tool for recruiting. Behind the building are the practice fields. Some day I would like to see the north side torn down and replaced with a smaller lower tier and a tier above it to get seating up to the mid 40s. The nearby landmark (10 feet away) field house precludes a full upper deck on the north side, but a smaller lower tier would allow a the new tier to be above Hollingberry Field House. They have a loyal fan base but the vast majority must take the 6 hour (on a good day) trip from the Seattle area traversing a mountain range a semi-desert and vast farmland to get to a game. Fans are closer to the action than any other Pac 12 stadium.

I'm a Beav but I view the Cougs as a cousin to the Beavs and I regularly root for you guys. The challenge here isn't that you have a bad stadium at all. Just compared to Washington(the Tajmahal of college football period) , Oregon State(now second best in Pac after renovation), and Oregon which is nice but I bet will be refurbished in next 5-10, Martin just doesn't match up. That being said, Utah, AZ, ASU, UCLA, and even USC are all sub-par to most of the Pac 12 North teams stadiums. Martin is solid and better then these large South dumps. Cougs got shafted on this one. Don't think DP has been to any of the 4 North stadiums and if he came out and toured the 4 I think he would be very impressed.
@swingforthefences7439 Жыл бұрын
Also, at Martin Stadium, in Pullman, the stadium is nearly in the center of the campus. There’s really no possible opportunity to have hills from the Horizon be a part of the backdrop for scenery.
@mooch2oh610 ай бұрын
Bad take on Martin Stadium, it's perfect size for Wazzu and actually a pretty nice place to see a game. The building on the end is the new football operations building. They've put a lot of work into the place over the last 10 years or so, it's way better now than it used to be. They'll be capping it off with a new indoor practice facility opening in the next year or 2. I would argue some of the teams in the Pac with way too big of stadiums and poor attendance (Cal, UCLA) are much worse than Martin.

This is awful! If you're going to be that judgmental and nitpicky at least give other reasons than "too small", "Has a track" and "has a building." Does the quality of the seating matter? The architecture and style? Amenities? Background? Quality of the view from stands? Good concessions? Have you BEEN to any of these stadiums? Sounds like very superficial criteria. Also I noticed when you said closing off the end zone was a plus, but then you hit Wazzu for not "capitalizing on the views." Make up your mind! I remember when Rutgers got full of themselves and expanded their stadium closing off the end zone, there was a really idyllic and pastoral view that got covered up. Closing off the end zones makes the view worse and takes away character from the stadium.

Rice Stadium will always bother me because you'd think at some point they'd get rid of the upper decks on both sides, build new suites on one side, and re-open the endzone seating (since they built that facility on the other end) if they need to sell more tickets. Makes far more sense than keeping the upper decks.
