Worldwide, the Tension Persisted and Heightened | Colorized World War II

Ойын-сауық

Worldwide, the tension persisted and heightened as Japan asserted their influence as members of the Tripartite Pact, amplifying Hitler's Axis coalition. Despite being besieged by the Blitz's relentless bombing runs, Britain remained steadfast and solitary, even as its troops abroad fought alongside the Allies for control over North Africa.

My father, a Canadian and oldest brother of three, joined the RCAF in 1939, was in the UK by April 1940, one month before the Battle of France started. Brother number two joined the RCN shortly for service on a cruiser thereafter. Youngest brother had a friend forge his mother's signature to state she allowed him to join the RCN just after the HMS Hood was sunk - he was 17 years old. The youngest died a some years ago at age 94. I visited often in his last two years, fixing up his house and watching the film "Sink The Bismarck" a few times a week. One of my sisters recorded him in 1992 as he recounted his life before and during the war. She also transcribed his diary from D Day as his destroyer patrolled the French coast supporting the Royal Navy, a diary being something to hide as it was forbidden for security reasons. All brothers came home in 1945.

There are two things from WWII that are mind boggling to me: 1) That the British were able to break the Enigma machine and yet keep it a secret from the unsuspecting Germans. (ok, maybe that's two things right there) 2) That faced with the obvious fact that the British air force was getting advanced notice of the German air raids and were therefore able to get their Spitfires into the air to welcome the German planes, and given that the Germans had their own working radar, that the Germans continued to deny any belief that the British had a working radar network across the southern border facing France and Germany... The Germans saw the radar towers and later would say they didn't believe the British had radar, and yet offered no other practical explanation as to why the German air force was getting beat up in the sky. A distant 3rd is that the Germans gave up on their atomic bomb program early on to further expand their V rocket program, while the USA had a quiet atomic bomb program going in New Mexico that German spies didn't know about but Russian spies did....

The main reason the nazi atomic bomb project failed was ideology. They set up 2 competing teams ti build the bomb, believing that the competition would spur results. As it turned out, one team had about 60% of the enriched uranium required and the other 40%. So individually, still well short. Whereas free market economy USA pooled their resources and caught up and beat the nazi effort. If WW2 proved anything, it was that dree market economy and capitalisim beat cottage industries with centralised control. Other examples are tanks, U boats and ships. The nazis worked on building the best tank, the best U boat, the best battleship etc, and largely succeeded, eg Tiger Tank, the Bizmark. But the Americans worked on putting out thousands of decent tanks, ships and equipment that was easy to transport and maintain. Because 10 Sherman's will always beat 1 tiger - especially if it's broken down.

Well in reality both Britain and Poland played seperate roles. Poland was the first to realize that the solution to breaking Enigma would most likely be discovered by a mathematician. Polish cryptanalysts could decode German messages and they were able to successfully decipher messages written with an earlier version of Enigma using a replica machine like “the bombe” crated by Britain that could emulate the way Enigma worked. When Poland was overrun by Germany in September 1939, the Polish as well as French cryptanalysts shared what they knew about Enigma with the UK, which allowed the British at Bletchley Park, including Alan Turing, to finally crack the Enigma ciphers. the first to realize that the solution to break enigma would most likely be discovered by a mathematician. Turing then also went on to crack the more advanced naval enigma codes. So yes both views are right, The polish discovered how to translate the basic code and the British worked out how to crack and replicate the Enigma machine, enigma messages and the naval counterpart.

God Bless the Brits, who stood virtually alone against Nazi aggression from France's surrender until December 1941. If they had capitulated, the world would be a much darker place today.

Franco was pretty sharp. He had the Italians and Nazis do his dirty work, but kept the largely out of his country. While Spain did permit some collaboration with the Axis, he also supplied the UK with intelligence.

Hitler should have never looked west and invade France/attack Britain. Should have only focused his efforts on expanding east and taking the USSR. And Japan should have done the same. They could have invaded the Soviet Union from the other side. America would not have joined the war if not for Pearl Harbor and their allies being attacked

Not everything is black and white as you see it. Jews for example mutilate their sons as offering to their God and Gypsies are incestous paedophiles. That’s also brutality and no body is making a big deal out of it. If they are capable to do that to their own children imagine what are they capable to do to non-Jewish or non-Gypsie. Why else would Jews be expelled from every country they were in since ancient times? I don’t see any other reason but they were doing something that provoked revenge from domicile population. Why else would millions of people stand with Hitler on that subject? Doesn’t make any sense to me. Especially when they were not the only minority in Germany at that time. I’m not saying he should have been that brutal but, if Germany wasn’t humiliated after WWI he would never come to power in the first place and Jewish banksters had great influence on politicians that designed threaty of Versailles so in my opinion there’s a lot of blood on their hands, too.
