Congrats on 20k! And what a great way to give back to the community! My favorite faction is the Marquise de Cat because of how tight of a ship you have to run. There’s very little room for error as you attempt to squeeze every last drop of efficiency that you can out of your three actions per turn. For such a simple set of actions there’s a surprising amount of nuance and depth to their strategy that I still feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of (Overwork I especially want to explore more). Often times you need to talk others into helping you police threats at the table, which is a fun challenge, and also makes those swings you do take yourself feel even better when they connect. Plus, they’re great at checking the nuisance that is your favorite WA😉

Congrats on hitting 20k! I too have only played this game digitally. My favourite faction always seems to be the one that I have played most recently. So right now, it's the Corvid Conspiracy. In a few weeks it will likely be the Underground Dutchy. Who knows? The best part of this game is that ALL of the factions are fun. If you're ever up for collaborating, I'd love to chat with you and do something together.

Congrats for reachign 20k! My favourite factions is the Marquise, I love how it introduces a more classic resource management mechanic into the game, having little "wood" tokens that you can use to build structures makes the whole board feel so thematically coherent and vivid (and, occasionally, very rewarding too). Also I think that of all the "military" factions the cats are the more adapt in the act of involving the other players to think tactically about unit positioning on the board. Never won with them not even once, but I can't think of any other faction so capable of establishing recognizible and stimulating patterns of interactions with everyone else. I mean every faction gives its own particular flavour to the process of beating up the cats (as the cats have their ways of self defense).

Sam is back!! Great to see you and glad to hear you’re re-examining your time breakdown. 20k followers is incredible, but I can only imagine the level of expectation (whether internal or external) ramps up as that number does… be kind to yourself and do what you need. There’s a good reason that number’s so high, and it’s not because of quantity or cadence, it’s all about quality and character. Many congrats, man. ❤️💛🧡💙

Lizard cult is my favourite which I know is controversial. I just love the thematic ability to convert players pieces over the cult and to adapt others’ buildings into your gardens. I can picture it so clearly! Not to mention how wonderfully derpy they look.

The Vagabond is my favorite, specifically the Tinker! Especially when you get swords, tea or generally any item as craft cards in your starting hand. I just love subtly hoarding & collecting a lot of items & points at the start of the game, then suddenly causing havoc, being hostile to all factions towards the end to seal the victory 😜 Thanks again for doing this giveaway! I've only had the 2017 copy of Root and barely had anyone to play with since then, I've taught it to a bunch of family and friends and there's really nothing like it, I can go on and on repeating the instructions as long as I have someone to play with 🤣 just so happy to stumble upon your channel a few moments back. It really warms my heart to find someone who also shares the same enthusiasm (and more) as l have had for the game in all these years! Congrats on a well-deserved 20k & keep up the great work! Thanks for updating again! My favorite faction is badger, I love the sudoku-ish puzzle solving mechanism. It is so rewarding to win with badger after some brain burning to jump from 14 to 30. They have the strongest recruit in game, can encamp and reborn if we spread out, even after being hit. And Sam's favorite faction is Woodland Alliance, with your favorite green color, theme for rebellion, robinhood like, it is a faction that made for you ;)

Hi Sam, I've been sharing your love for Root for more than a year now and enjoying your videos since. I fell in love with the thing at a friends house and been playing ever since. Unfortunately I only own the digital version! My favourite faction is undoubtedly the Woodland Alliance; I enjoy that powerful but risky way of scoring points. Being the ''underdog'' requires patience, strategy, and resilience. There is only one best time to strike back! But I think what makes me enjoy WA that much is the theme: Night operations! There is a certain Robin Hood element to them that makes the WA unique to me (partly because the fox supporters remind me of the Disney Robin Hood movie which I spammed when I was a kid haha) Anyway! Thank you for this giveaway, appreciate the effort you put in these videos!

I love the Eyrie. I like building them up. My favourite part is figuring out when your programming will fail and planning your pivot strategy.

I really liked the effort you put into your last video about the Duchy. It was highly informative but yet very entertaining. That being said, I also enjoyed your perhaps a little easier to produce digital playthroughs of Root. I'd love it if you would continue to do that on a somewhat regular basis if you enjoy making them. As for my favorite faction, it would have to be the Woodland Alliance. I really like the underdog theme and it feels good to make others pay when they want to move through your clearings, and guerrilla warfare is such a great trait that really fits them.

I've been hooked to your channel mainly because of ROOT, and admired your in-depth analyses of full games and faction overviews. I think I can honestly say they made me think different about the game. Since I am about to try getting a boardgame of my own design out onto the market (it's called TACTICA and it's a competitive strategic game, a bit like ROOT in some sense :) ). I also struggle to run a channel for the tiny community we have in TACTICA, posting VODs with analytical commentary from the competitive league matches we organise, video guides, tierlists of factions in the game etc., and so I also have to say I am beyond impressed about your dedication and level of the videos you put out that's ever growing. Back to ROOT though - my favourite faction is a toss-up between the Corvid Conspiracy and the Keepers in Iron. With Corvids, I just love the trickery aspect of their gameplay, and also the fact that no matter how hard you might get stomped if other players are competent enough, it never feels like you are completely irrelevant in the game even if you know you cannot win, and can still have a ton of fun. With Keepers, I think I have to agree with others here - their theme is just splendid. Beyond that, though, I feel like they have the most diverse gameplay of all the factions that never feels the same - there are no "guaranteed ways" to proceed with them, you are always taking (hopefully) calculated risks and finding back alleys to get the most of any situation that occurs. Keep up the great work and see you soon at 50k! :)

My favorite faction is the Riverfolk Company, which I know forms a natural enemy with the Woodland Alliance since they can't really buy anything. I find the Otters to add such a fun element to the game with the open hand and purchasing that I don't even care if I win when I play them as long as I can engage the table in more tabletalk and planning. I love making handshake deals with players that if they buy I can go police their opponents and it has caused players targeted by that to team up with other players who didn't buy and I feel like the collusion it can bring can make such a fun rivalry and player interaction/feuds beyond just kingmaking. Especially with newer players who are more likely to play a strategy that might not be optimal but can be more fun as they make choices based on personal connections that Riverfolk can help introduce. I'm sorry the Toast Mice can't afford much but I hope we can overlook our differences. Congrats on 20K, your production quality is far beyond comparable sized channels and I hope you only continue to grow

Congrats on hitting 20k!! Originally got to your channel from the awesome Villainous guides and reviews, but quickly found how cool Root is!! My favorite faction is the Underground Duchy. Love the versatility of being able to move around and popup anywhere and the building management of keeping favor of the lords. Thanks for your attention to detail and quality in your videos!!!

I really enjoy the play style of the Riverfolk company. The table talk required to win the game. Trying to subtely get players to buy your services by making them think it'll benifit them when at the end of the day you'll end up using the funds they gave you to take them down. It's a very interesting play style. Even though all factions do have an interesting play style. The asymetric style of Root is an amazing system for boardgames. I never had really got into boardgames prior to root and I played it once and was hooked. The first game I ever played was as the vagabond, then I played as the Marquise de Cat. Then played the eyrie Dynasty. But by far the Riverfolk company has some of the best play style and table talk opportunities. Also congrats on achiving the 20k milestone. I love watching your videos, especially the ones on Root.

Congrats on the 20K! I actually stumbled upon your channel from the RTFM video for Dune Imperium. That was good shout out. I really liked your strategy tips and started to check out your other videos as well. To be perfectly honest, I'm mostly Root-curious and haven't played the game with a physical copy even once. My experience with it is playing the tutorials from the digital version, and that got me really interested in getting a copy to play it with my group. Basing from the tutorials, my favourite faction at the moment is The Vagabond, just because it feels fun to be the shady guy with the shady objectives.

My favorite faction in Root has to be the Vagabond. I love its unique play style and the ability to interact with the other factions. It adds to the strategic decision-making in each game and offers different paths to victory. It's also great that you have the chance to either help or disrupt the plans of other factions, which creates a cool and mischievous playstyle. As the Vagabond, you become a mischievous presence, and the other players have to be careful of what you might do. Keep up the good work!

Congrats on 20k subs! I only found your channel a few months ago when I first discovered Root with my friends. Your Root digital games persuaded me to get the digital version along with the expansions. Though I know you don’t like it very much, I love playing the Vagabond. It’s fun to not have to deal with the massive war in the woodland, but interact with all of the factions. I also really like the concept of allying with another player to win together. My favorite faction thematically is the Keepers in Iron. I think the knightly order of badgers that don’t care for who rules the Woodland, but want the relics in the region is really fun to play. Nice!! I've been clamoring for some Root RPG content for months now so I'm so glad that you want to do that. I've been trying to get a group together to play it, too, but it's tough to wade in even though we play so much Root the board game. My favorite faction has got to be the Marquise de Cat. Mechanically and narratively, It's fun to be the villain who starts off with tenuous control of the board who slowly loses ground to invaders or subterfuge and has to build a strong position. It's incredible when you win, because it's challenging and feels against the odds, but it's also fun when you lose, in the way that its fun for the dungeon master when their big bad evil guy is finally defeated by the party. The Marquise feels central to the feel of the world of Root, like bumbling Prince John versus Robin Hood, only sometimes Prince John is able to narrowly eke out a win. My favorite Root game of all wasn't even a win; it was a 1-on-1 game of Marquise versus Eyrie, where I held control of the board for almost the entire game, repelling the Eyrie over and over until at the last minute the Eyrie were able to break though and overthrow me.

I purchased Root Digital and have been thoroughly enjoying it! Hiya! I started watching your channel for the Villainous content and you got me interested in Root, but I was never able to buy the game. However, I have been able to play some games in the Board Game Club at my college and it has been really fun, I always try to play it whenever someone decides to bring it. I think so far my favorite faction has been the Riverfolk Company. Not only are they extremely fun to play, they're just so cute :) Still haven't won a game yet, but I've been having fun trying all the factions. Congrats on 20k and all the effort that goes into the videos! I only own base, but it's been perfect for my tight 4-player gaming group playing it repeatedly and levelling up our knowledge of the factions. Watching your playthroughs was very helpful early on for strategy insights. My favourite faction has to be the Eyrie, it really plays into what gives me a buzz off board games: getting paid off for good planning. Seeing your decree build into a juggernaut of actions and other players trying to find a weak link is a very rewarding and challenging process.

Been watching your videos for a while. Its the main way i learned about all the factions in Root. I know it might be late to the party but I'd love to see more Leder Games games, like Vast. Even videos about learning each character if it was a game you really enjoyed. ( I saw it creeping back there in the background lol) I recently got the Maurauders expansion and have been playing the rats. I love how it's another faction that uses items and once they have certain ones they can just steamroll the forest. Looking forward to seeing more videos. Keep up the good work!

So, I've started playing board games a few years ago. At the time it didn't really click for me until I learned about Root. For some reason, it was engaging and exciting to play. I was curious to play all the factions but the hardest one was the Lizard Cult. Then, I stumbled upon your channel and you taught me very interesting strategy and tips to play, which is why I could enjoy the game even more. You were very helpful, thank you, man! I don't like choosing my top favorite of anything, because it is really hard for me. I didn't realize until I watched this video but after 2-3 years of playing board games, I am still up for another game of Root. It is number one game for me. I love many factions, but my most favorite is the Eyrie Dynasties. Congratulations on your milestone!🎉 You'll achieve many greater ones in the near future. Keep up the good work!

Congratulations! I love Eyrie Dynasties for their internal politics (having to play tricks to "fool" the decree), external politics (fragility of the decree), planning moves many turns ahead and their effectiveness when played right. Every element must be flexible for the system to be rigid. Birds get me involved in the woodland so much, observing, reacting, negotiating and planning, more than any other faction.

I was actually wondering where you went! Nice to see you back again Edit: I'm up for a top 10 2022, I don't think it's too late Sadly, Ive never played Root 😭 but I really want to! Just in concept alone, my favorite faction is the Riverfolk -- I love the idea of dealing in all sides and building your strength with smart business. It seems like a fun challenge to read the board just right to be able to sell to the right person and deal your cards right!

Glad to see the channel’s popping off! Of the factions, I think Eeire are my favorite. I love the feeling of slowly becoming an almost unstoppable force that can just wreck shop and take control, but also you have to make some very smart tactile decisions or you’ll be knocked pretty far back. I really like the tension of each card you put into the decree, especially late game.

Congrats for the 20k ! You put so much love and passion in every video, it is totally deserved ! I've been introduced to Root by friends and fell in love with the game to the point of spending way too much time (including on this chanel ahah) digging for everything I could find surrounding that awesome universe. It's amazing to see the hype and huge community surrounding Root. Also, big up to the french and french-speaking canadian community for keeping this game hype as hell with their fan factions and monthly tournaments ! My favorite faction are the Otters, what I really love about this game is all the talk and interaction you can have around the table. I love to roleplay as the merchant around the table according deals to players, coming up with big sales (or sometime doing some friendly extorsion on some piles of wood) while being able to help police the map if needed or move around quickly. Is your favorite faction still the Alliance ? :D I hope to one day run against in a Steam game ahah, it would be fun as hell ! Lova lova.

Discovered your channel for Root at a time I wasn't sure what to get. Whenever I need to teach or show off the game I send folks your way, especially reminders/strategy since we don't get to play as much as I'd like. Congrats on the milestone! Wow, 20k is incredible 👏 congrats! Love the openess from a content creator tbh, always great to see a creator properly communicating with thier community. Love your vids mate. While I know you enjoy the WA, I gotta say that to me, the multi step strategy and gradual build up of the eeyrie made me fall in love with the faction, both my mum, my brother and I basically fight to play the eerie. I recently acquired the moles who - I believe- hold some similarities to the eerie in terms of gameplan so while I do play every faction those two are definetly my favourites. I do wanna pick up the marauder expansion soon cause I feel like the gameplay of the keepers in iron could be similar enough to really rise the ranks of being one of my favourite factions. Congrats on 20k!! Thanks for introducing me to Root - it's my favorite game now and without your channel I wouldn't have been able to understand the rules and strategies enough to get started. I've been playing the base game of root and so excited to try the marauder expansion! My favorite faction is the Woodland Alliance! I love the story, the woodland creatures being the underdogs and easy targets in the beginning but has so much potential to scale. It's the most exciting to play and honestly gives me more hope in life.

Root has to be hands down my favorite board game! It has brought together many of my closest friends for many MANY incredible evenings! Faction wise, the Keeper's of Iron are my all time favorite faction! (sorry Sam, but Woodland Alliance is second for me!) I love the Keeper's of Iron so much that I created a whole ass DND character inspired by the Faithful Retainers! (He was a Paladin Kingfisher and he kicked ass!!) I then PLEADED my dungeon master to help me create a Root style DND campaign and it. was. AMAZING!!! We used different maps from the different Root expansions and omg I loved using all the unique Hirlings for special NPC's! I could go on and on about how much I adore Root. Congratulations on the 20k I’ve been subscribed for a while so I’m delighted to hear how your channel and in a way the community has been growing. Honestly just keep doing what you want . Burning out is a very real possibility and I’d rather you keep your enjoyment for what you do up as it’ll always reflect in your content. You know what’s healthy and happy for you so don’t let the “commitments” of series of videos bog you down. I enjoy learning and trying new games it gets difficult for me to really dig into some of the games you play to where Meta’s evolve and shift so I love your channel and it’s commitment to that kind of thing. I really like the Eyrie. I’ve only really played on the App. Tbh It might seem A bit shallow but really enjoy Kyle’s artwork of the different bird leaders. The push and pull of different leaders is fun and having your faction all of a sudden falling into political instability I find deeply funny. No offense to the other creatures or the artworks but you get so much variety in the birds.

Like recruiting a lot to dig and freak out other player or draw the all piles of cards to score points really fast. Some of my best moments playing the game have come at a time when I feel like I'm falling behind and somehow on my turn I get a chance to chain the most perfect set of actions and pull off a win. Your videos have been some of my favorites in this scene! Love that you are still looking toward making more content! I normally would lean toward insurgent factions, but lately I have been loving the Marquise! I enjoy the puzzle of really making the most out of their few actions to get their economy going.

I got the base game of Root on last christmas. I have been obsessed with the game for the past 5 months and it actually inspired me to start designing a board game of my own, although recently there has been a lack of players at our table, I will be buying a new expansion soon. Anyways congratulations on 20k subscribers, I appreciate the creators who commit to create content for the games they love. To me, from what I have watched from you and others, the most interesting pair of factions is the Rats and the Badgers and my personal favourite from the base game of Root would be the Eyrie Dynasties. I love how the Eyrie have to plan ahead with what they have in hand. Remember to have fun doing KZread!

A couple of things, I don’t want to speak for everyone but I think we definitely need a top 10 video. For the Root campaign you can do something similar to Critical Role where they live stream to KZread and also have it in podcast form (if you have the time/resources), I think that would be really cool. I only play the base game so my favorite is either the Eyrie or the vagabond. I think I remember your favorite being the badgers or the vagabond but I can’t remember. Love the vids!

A group of friends and I started learning this game together by assigning one another a faction to "become" - my faction is the Eyrie. We gather together often to play, and even have a running scoreboard and trophy. My biggest nemesis always seems to be your favorite, the WA. Your videos have been incredibly helpful in learning not only how to play my own faction, but how to understand the other factions as well. For variety, I have begun to randomly choose new factions to try, and I would say my rising favorites are the Lizard Cult and Lord of the Hundreds.

Glad you're back! Been following for a year now. I've never gotten to play Root, but have wanted it for a while, since my wife and I love assymmetric games (Villainous, Unmatched, etc.). I will have to look into Hirelings, since I've been afraid to dive into the game since we mostly play 2p. That said... Riverfolk appeals to me the most, since it has the push and pull of trade politics that not all groups seem to have. I love toeing benevolence and malevolence. Them or the Lizard Cult. 😅

Happy 20k LOTB! Big milestone, with a million more on the way. For your Q on the Top 10 games of 2022, maybe you could consider doing a 2022/23 games list? As in maybe you could highlight the games from May 2022 to May 2023, just another way of doing it I suppose! My favourite faction definitely has to be the Corvus Conspiracy! They have lower reach, but I loveee their random token mechanics. They are an absolute blast to play with, and I definitely hope to get the Underworld expansion myself; I only played the digital version :/

Marquise de Cat. One of the most mechanically simple factions yet so elegant and strategically complex. Cats are chess personified. Choosing where to start, build, attack, defend, counter-attack, overrule. It’s all so fun, especially to be the underdog. Also made a video in my native language explaining the rules. Fun to see you again LOTB!

At first it was simply because I adore the shiny metallic looking meeples (which have to be the best in the game), but it wasn't until my brother succeeded in a 12 point turn with these guys and came back and won the game, that I fell in love with them. Such a satisfying way to earn points when they come all at once, unlike any other faction.

Lore videos would be fascinating to watch, especially when they cover subjects like the denizens and their different species, and how the vagabonds are an offshoot of these. Perhaps also go deeper in that the clearings not only house mice, foxes, and rabbits, but also various other animals. It would be nice to see an exploration on how the mechanics of the game tie in with the lore, for example that the deck of cards represents the denizens and each card drawn, represent denizens who have joined the ranks of the faction you're playing. One aspect that the Root RPG excels at, particularly with the character cards, is depicting factions as more than just soldiers of their own species, rather they also depict a fox within the eyre for example. However, the standard board game fails to capture this depth. It would be wonderful to have lore videos that explore these themes. Additionally, the lore could help explain questions like why crows and birds must use the paths instead of simply flying over the woodland.

I have only ever played the base game of root, but when I played it I loved being the Eyrie Dynasties. It’s always a great challenge to spread roosts all over the map as well as trying to follow their decree so you don’t go into turmoil. It’s an incredible game and I would love to add it to my collection! Congrats on the amazing milestone, I can’t wait for more new content!!

I'm in love with the Rats (Lord of the Hundred) because of their aggression as the games with my friends tend to be on the passive side, playing the Rats just make everyone much more aggressive somehow :> I think you love the Breads the most which are a close 2nd on my list

Congratulations LOTB on 20k subscribers! As an absolute fan of Root, my favorite faction is the woodland alliance, just like the you! It was my first faction when I started playing, and I like their background story of being the underdogs as well as having a very strong defence system. The strong defence system allows me to not fall back too much in the game even when I am hit and provides me with supporters to start my engine again. I also like the alliance because I think it is difficult for other players to know when to hit on the alliance as they are not so visible on the map. Thank you for your content always!

I think my favorite faction is the woodland alliance, followed closely by the cats. I love how sneaky and dangerous the woodland alliance is! I’ve won many games with them. But the cats are also great - they’re so hard to win with (at least without adset) but I love the sheer amount of board presence and influence over the game they have.

My favorite faction happens to be the Vagabond. As someone who loves RPGs and other such games where you’re a single entity, the gameplan is easy for my smooth brain to comprehend. It’s also just hilarious when played right because you can basically become Kingmaker if the whole board doesn’t collectively tackle you. It also helps that as a burst faction, it’s harder to identify thier progress at a glance. For the RPG stuff, as much as I’d love full blown lore videos iirc there isn’t much there other than a basic skeleton to work from. The system used is Powered by the Apocalypse, which is low-prep and very RP and improv heavy. The tools are there to make the world more detailed if you want to, and materials to help you do exist, but for the most part you’re generally meant to be given as little as possible and wing it. Also, minor nitpick but I'm only sharing because it is also kinda cute, "Eyrie Dynasties" is pronounced more like "Airy Dynasties." This is because an eyrie is a nest of a bird of prey.

Congrats on reaching 20k! I started watching for your Villainous how to guides but your Root videos are also interesting. I don't have the game so I don't really know which one i would prefer but the Woodland Alliance seem fun.

I love playing as the Lord of the Hundreds. It’s awesome how mechanical and thematically they blend together. From growing your army, building your horde, and then causing havoc on the board with the Warlord. Usually playing my favorite insurgent the Woodland Alliance (actually tho lol 😉), it’s refreshing having a faction that is so focused on battling. I can’t wait to see them digitally!

Root is one of those games that carved out a unique gameplay experience compared to most games I've played. I got a chance to play it once in person, but since then I've stuck to play the digital version, waiting on the right time to forge a Root game group in person - but that starts with a base game. I played the Eyrie Dynasties and loved that complexity out the gate. I've watched your videos covering all the expansions and giving me a glimpse into the reach & creativity in this game, some of which look SO cool like the Corvus & Duchy. Keep up the great work & passion on this game - it only multiples the community.

I subscribed to your channel because of your Roots Content =D. My fave faction at the moment is the Eyrie dynasties. It has an interesting mechanism with the decree that require planning which kinda suit my personality. Other reason is to allow the factions with less complex mechanism to my family to keep them interested with the game. Maybe this can be a video idea for you on how to keep root interesting for certain ages group and type of players (i.e. don't like planning too much, non-competitive player, etc.)

My favorite faction used to be The Woodland Alliance (which I think is yours too), it's the one I started with and between my friends it's the one I would get associated with. But with Marauders, I think my new favorite faction is the Keepers in Iron! They're a tricky one to play and you basically have to plan your entire turn in advance and there are so many different ways to go about it. I also just love the fact that we use the forests and the lore is pretty sick too.

The programming of your turn is really fun even though my decree has screwed me over from time to time. There simple yet effective and I strongly recommend to anyone who hasn't yet to try them out. Funnily enough the first time I found out about this game and played it i tought they were so boring. ;) I'm sorry but the woodland alliance is to complicated for me and even after coutless guides i have dificullty pulling them of.

My favourite faction is the Riverfolk Company, coz they bring out my favourite part of multiplayer conflict games - the table talk. Ofc talking is important for all factions but the way otters have to convince players to buy their cards, or position their mercs to appeal to other players’ goals, it highlights the diplomatic side of the game. The art of making a player think an action will benefit them more than you is delicate and satisfying - along with the art of making sure they’re not doing the same to you !

Looking forward to the Root Rpg playthrough! As for the give away. My favorite faction is The Marquise, being a board sherriff and controlling the board is great! Bonus points calling the Corvid is ya favorite!

Just wanted to say, I love RPG actual plays, so I'd totally be excited for that. Audio or video doesn't really matter to me unless some cool minis and maps are involved. When I "watch" actual play its usually in the background anyway. Also, speaking as a Villainous fan, no worries if content is slow. I never unsub from channels that are just producing slow. The worst you can do IMO is produce a lot of mediocre content quickly, thats when people unsub. So I think you're taking completely the right approach, especially with three jobs. Looking forward to stuff, and thx for the always great content.

Me and my friend group have played so many games since 2020. My all-time fav faction has become the Underground Duchy, but the Lizard cult is basically 1b. I just tend to play the higher reach factions in my group because my friends little brother mains your favorite faction, the woodland alliance 😊 ps. I'm so hyped for the root RPG videos! I think it's probably better to just do the podcast until everyone it's comfortable with the game and then if you want you can start recording, I think it would be neat! Glad to see your back! :) Now for my enter in the root giveaway, I gotta go with the cats, they are so underrated. Even though they are presented as the "beginner" faction they are not easy at all to win with. I really like the puzzle that they offer and even if I didn't like them at first after a lot of plays and some expansions I can say that they are one of my favorites.

My favorite faction of Root is the Woodland Alliance, the thematic feel of going against the big faction and the only thing you have is your friends and wit really makes the game for me.

My favorite faction in Root is the woodland alliance! I love how they don’t seem to be a threat, but once they revolt, they race to the finish! It’s so thematic! The green toasts are a huge bonus! But playing expansion factions are starting to make me consider other ones… I actually also was introduced to Root through your channel! So always looking for more root content!

You could always frame the top 10 as a "10 games from 2022 you should play in 2023", then it's still a top ten but also "on time" for this year! My favorite would have to be the Eyrie, I really like the idea of "programming" my turns in advance, then planning/politic-ing the events to come so I don't collapse. I want to get better with the Keepers for the same reason, but just haven't gotten the time/game plays to learn it properly.

Congrats on 20k, that is inspiring because this has always been something I have wanted to do and the way you are dedicated to what you love shows it’s possible to work hard and do it with love. My favorite Faction in Root is the Woodland Alliance. I love how in the beginning people don't view the Woodland as a threat, but then all of a sudden they jump in points and it is extremely hard to slow them down. At least this is how it is at my party. We once had the woodland island win 3 games in a row and was basically an unstoppable force.

My favorite is the Duchy, but that's really just on it being an interesting departure conceptually from the surface factions. Root is not a game I have tried yet, but I have been very eager to try since this channel introduced it to me while I was looking for Villainous content. With that in mind, I would adore lore videos for it, both large and small. It's a very charming little world and I'd love to learn more of it.

I love the Lord of the Hundreds! The little gremlin rats that raze the ground they step are very powerful to play as, and they're adorable as well. It's very fun to imagine those little rats absolutely tearing everything to shreds as they march forth to victory.

Favorite faction has got to be the Eyrie Dynasties! As much as I love some of the other factions, Eyrie was my fave when I first started- they’re board is flexible, strong and rewarding to play :) Only caveat is I haven’t played the marauders factions yet 👀

Hey man, congrats on 20k! My friends and I literally just got into root in the last two weeks and your videos have been super useful. While I have yet to play all the factions, my favorite thus far has been the Eyrie Dynasties. (Your favorite is the Woodland Alliance 😃)

I love the Woodland Alliance it's my personal favorite, I've always been a rebel and I love the complexity of the WA, especially in 4 player games. Although I only play at a board game cafe since I don't have the game it's still a blast to play when I can.

My favorite fraction would bé the Eeire. The build up of your actions is sometimes crazy and unstoppable, but with a huge risk

Loving the look of the Keeper’s of Iron. The aesthetics, the art and the idea of them having to scurry around for the relics is so fun :)

I look forward to more content you produce~ I love Lizard Cult the most because of its stupid but cute look and the challenge of playing with it (getting the right suit is really difficult sometimes😅)

My favorite faction conceptually is probably the Riverfolk. Otters are one of my favorite animals and the idea of making trade a much bigger part of the game really interests me. However, my favorite faction I've played so far is the Marquise de Cat. They have a lot of early game presence and can use that to launch themselves into an early lead (in my experience). I also like their big industrial motif and their clash with the Eyrie, a lot of board games (and frankly games in general) that I've played make factions and put them on a map and say "Ok, now fight," but Root actually connected the Marquise and the Eyrie and I like that lore aspect.

Congrats on 20k! I’ve only played Root a couple times as the Eyrie and didn’t do well at all, but I really like them conceptually (guess I just need to rewatch your videos before trying them again)

JUST started playing ROOT with some friends and have been watching as many strategy videos as possible and looove your channel! So far I have been really liking the the Woodland Alliance, they have a neat versatility to them - I can't wait to try the expansions!

Now while I know you're a big fan of the Woodland Alliance (which is quite a fun faction- to build up from absolutely no board presence at game start to an ever-present threat to everyone); funnily enough, the basic, run-of-the-mill Marquise de Cat is probably my favorite faction, both from the perspective of playing them and for the way they set the pace and objective of the game as a whole. When playing them, you really get this feeling that the game hands you control of most of the board to begin with- a sense of early power- that quickly becomes precarious under the Cats' low action economy. A lot of the game revolves around where you're drawing your lines on the board, and hashing out the space on the board to your advantage as best you can, lasting just long enough to eke out the VP you need. And when you're playing against them, so many factions get some sort of benefit or detriment to the fact that there is a hostile warrior in almost every clearing at the start of the game. Such that you *must* interact with the Cat player at some point in the game, fostering communication and table talk. As a result, they make for such an excellent foundational faction that is completely justified in their status as the front-cover faction for Root, and touches on so many familiar game mechanics that helps ease everyone into the game as a whole. A lot of my table group has the Cats pegged as weak- but I'll always take the opportunity to show them how wrong they can be if they're not careful!

My favourite faction is the woodland alliance. I have owned the base game for approximately 5 months and I only have the riverfolk expansion, but I fell in love both with the design and the gameplay of the alliance. Being able to revolt and win the game out of nowhere is a fantastic mechanic and I have had the best games with them. Also I love the challenge of balancing 10 warriors to do everything at once. Congrats on 20k!

My favourite faction are the corvids and yes i know they are probably one of the weakest factions, but i just love the way how they spawn all over the map and how you can outplay other players with your different plots. The point in winning is to get ignored, because some of the more aggressive factions as the rats are seeming to be a bigger threat than the little corvids, so i like the sneaky gameplay of the corvids. It also depends on the players you're playing with. While its easy to let newer players forget you and to score over 20 points with just one move, because you activated all your plots suddenly at the same time, it is pretty hard to score any points while playing with enemys, who are just constantly destroying your tokens before you can activate them... I really love your videos and congratulations for your 20k celebration❤❤ And have fun with playing your favourite faction, the Woodland Alliance which is definitely one of the strongest factions because of their sympathy tokens and their revolts🎉

My favorite is surely Marquise de Cat, I love the deliCATe balance of swaying other players to not assault you, policing insurgents and trying to look non-threatening while maintaining an iron grip on your clearings! I found it especially fun with otters in the game, in my group people usually call us(cat+allies) HRE since I try to ally with a player or 2 early! Must make friends as a Cat in 6 player games.
