I'm a Christian and even I agree there should be no prayer in school as it's supposed to be secular. Don't like it homeschool or send your child to a private Christian school. Same goes for any religion.

I don’t think it was a white person that stood up and said to the headmistress that “she had betrayed them.” It was a person of color (probably a woman, too). That’s why the headmistress was confused, at first. And while I’m on the subject, the entire white this, white that descriptions by the headmistress and one of the hosts are appalling (somewhere around 30:29 to 30:33).

UK should make her the top Director of Public Education. She is brilliant and loyal to her country.

The muslim parents signed their children up to the school withour a prayer room because they wanted a good education for their children - what's changed ? If a prayer room is of paramount importance send your children to a school which has the facility. Their demands destroy the ethos of the school.

Multiculturalism has failed because it is the opposite of integration. It has allowed enclaves and tribalism. It has also permitted special treatment for certain groups, largely at the expense of the original population and culture.

i think you said too much. Integration has to happen at schools, and it is indeed the opposite of multiculturalism. the problem is you say "it allows enclaves and tribalism" and she says "no i'm the strictest head mistress and we don't allow that. and we don't offer special treatment for certain groups"... but they aren't integrating the children into the local society. Now thats more difficult in the UK, not quite as difficult as in France or Germany, but still not like America. You can be british citizen but are you actually british? What we need is schools that say yes you are british, here is the culture, and we expect you to be patriotic about this culture and this country, and it isn't "bullying" when other children push you in that direction. schools need to start expelling families, thus making the distinction that its not the kids fault that year over year they return re-radicalized against the country they are currently living in.

What you've expressed is the indisputable reality. Champions of multiculuralism claim that having a cabal of tribes jammed into major cities is enriching. Alas, NOTHING could be further from the reality. But the most disaterous facet of drawing in an array of races, cultures and, WORST of all ceratin religions is that it totally fractures the sociological infrastructures of the host-society. The dear headmistress might sincerely imagine that, because you come to Britain as an immigrant or, indeed, you were born in Britain to immigrants therefore equates to you being British. Well, apart from holding a passport/citizenship certificate that validates this scenario is about as far as it goes. Because the reality of affairs is that, most certainly so with ISLAM, ardent adherents to this religion MUST ALWAYS submit themselves to the Allah and the Quran. Therefore, they can NEVER be British!

I agree. The increase in faith schools to include other religions besides Catholicism and Anglicanism has led to more religion and more sectarianism, not multiculturalism. You only have to look at Northern Ireland to see sectarianism on schools leading to a civil war that lasted almost three decades. Non religious parents trying to get their children into these faith schools can't just turn up to a church service on Sunday pretending to be a Christian. They have to volunteer as well. In the sit com Rev, one of the main characters in the congregation is an atheist who feigns Christianity to get his children into the faith school. My parents were atheists from a Protestant background but had to send me to a school where religion was shoved down my throat. But it was a normal school. My mother had to lock me in the house one summer because an aggressively evangelical organisation had come to the local area with their circus tent to target children who didn't have to provide written permission from their parents into their stupid treasure tent bribing them with free sweets to get them in. She was worried that if I went to the park, other children might lure me there.

*School produces the top results in the country and people are fighting this? Perfect example of how self-sabotage destroys functionality.*

It's the lowest performing school I am aware of in relevant tests, the tests it performs highest in aren't indicative of learning and are at a great cost of mental health and gotten through unethical means too.

The tests where the school performs well measure improvement in academic ability. The kids in this school come in with very low scores, and improve faster than at any other school. The school achieved this by a strong focus on schooling while in school. I don't see what is bad, or unethical about that.

I am native to a European country. When I was young, Muslims were still in small numbers. No demands were made, they blended in. Now that their number has increased significantly, some want to rule the show. It was to be expected and unfortunately, it will not end there. Same issues in France.

Muslim faith schools were tried in Britain. They broke the law by practicing patriarchal gender segregation, and by indoctrinating the pupils with hard-line islamist ideology. Incidentally, a currently serving Labour MP for a Birmingham district openly praised the schools at a community meeting. Then she, a woman of African descent, said that the only reason she doesn't recommend a violent uprising against the British natives is that they ('BAME') don't currently have the numbers for it. Repeat: currently serving MP. I believe Kier Starmer commented on the MP's 'ethno-revolutionary' beliefs. He said she just cares so much about BAME.

This lady NAILS it! I love her solution to the dietary requirements of various religions. I am not a vegetarian but would willingly have one vego meal a day to bring about peace between political and religious hardliners. As for praying, those who must, go somewhere more appropriate than an institution for education. If she can educate children to set religion aside in pursuit of peace and knowledge maybe there is hope for the future.

Huge respect for this women. Doing incredibly hard job very well. Most people would give up. Kudos to Katharine and her team.

I support this head teacher. It is utterly ridiculous that students should require any prayer room. Schools should be for education, not indoctrination. Parents can send their children to religious school and not a secular school if they want a prayer room. It does appear that it is "the religion of peace" that is causing this commotion.

If you are not careful your government schools will be Islamic schools and if you don't want your kids raised in that religion you will have to find a private alternative. I think it's appropriate for western schools to learn about Christianity but no other faiths should be permitted.

Actually, it's not. It's one child that started this commotion and everyone else got on the band wagon. The child went to the induction along with everyone else. The ethos of the school was explained. Her family was happy to enrol her on the understanding and acceptance of the school ethos. One day, she decided to go against the school ethos and rally a vocal and violent minority. And here we are.

I'd send my son to her school in a heartbeat. What a wonderful woman.

I don't understand that mindset at all, I would have the most strenuous objections to the petty bureaucrat who is meant to be teaching my son to read telling him that his freedom to practice his religion is being arbitrarily stripped from him because she has a grand vision to bring about a new La Convivencia through vegetarianism, but it lead me to click on your avatar to get an insight into what kind of person you might be to try to understand better where you're coming from, and man... I must say, Spirals is one beautiful piece of music. I'm so pleased that I got to hear it, my ears are thanking my brain for randomly choosing to follow that particular rabbit-hole. Gratitude to you as well, it really brightened my evening.

@@eyeofbraille4659 I don't have any problem with people practising religion but I do think it's also important that we maximise integration in our culture where possible, and her approach of minimising division and segregation in schools seems a good start. I can understand the opposing argument, but personally I think she's doing a great job. And people are still free to send their kids to a religious school if they prefer that option. I admit to not know much about English history, but wouldn't it have to do with a some level of identity, in a sense? In Eastern Europe we still have a stronger sense of identity that's built largely on Christian values and adherence to Christianity (that doesn't mean that people are very believing and faithful, but there's still a lot cultural influence of religion). It seems to me Western European countries have lost it much more. England seems quite lost to me in that regard, considering that Anglican Church seems quite split and of marginal influence - though again, just a distant impression, maybe I'm wrong? Because if there's no strong core values,and instead 'anything goes' and 'lets deconstruct everything', then there quickly will come others who will gladly do that deconstructing for you, but with their own goals in mind. That seems to be where the excessive tolerance and political correctness leads to.

If we were serious in the west we would teach Christianity in schools. It's our history and our culture. If people from other cultures don't like it perhaps they should go to other countries. This one move could increase cohesion and reduce immigration in one action.

I know it's trivial and perhaps beside the point, but I couldn't help wondering why they don't have chicken and fish at the Michaela school. As far as I know, fish and chicken are permitted in all meat-eating religions. That's what my family did, no pork, veal or beef, rabbit, venison, goose or duck in any case.

The ' prayer room ' would be better described as a mini - mosque . Imagine if a multi faith prayer room was opened , comlete with religeous symbols from Christianity Judaism , Hindi Budhist , Sikh and Muslim . My uncle James, lived in the Alexandria area from 1978, until he became ill in 2017, and returned to the Riverina district where he grew up in. During my late teenage years, and was a young adult attending Sydney university in the early to late 1980s I lived under his care. On regular occasions from 2000, when I gained a plum job with the NSW Department of Planning, and was residing at Waterloo I’d visit my uncle and we’d venture up to Redfern to watch some type of sporting event in the pub. But near the end of 2014, the ethnocultural demographic make-up of the Redfern, Waterloo and Alexandria precinct began to change. So much so that, by the end of 2018, a bit more than half of all the pedestrians you’d observe in Redfern Street, and those coming and going through the railway space were Asiatics. Reading through a good number of the comments we discover there are a bevy of contributors gloating as to how great this headmistress happens to be. As well, there are also a number of contributors who have the wherewithal, and the courage to spell out the stark realities of the sociological catastrophe that, the open-door intakes of immigrants from non-European and, MOREOVER, non-Christian religions have brought to bear upon Britain. I froze a scene of the students in the dinning room, and of the 19 faces I observed NOT ONE OF THEM is a European - let alone a person of Anglo/Saxon/Celtic heritage. In one other aspect of that clip there were 2 blonde girls, and 5 coloureds. Quite clearly, native British students in this school are the ABSOLUTE minority. But to think that, in 1975, the White proportion of England’s population, which was nearly 47 million, was 86 percent. But now, in 2024, with England’s population being in excess of 61.3 million, the White-native component has been reduced to 65 percent. Ostensibly, it’s safe to say that almost all of the 15 million+ plus increase in the country’s population is due to mass non-European immigration, and the ensuing children they’ve bred. Additionally, this has been compounded by virtue of native Britons migrating to other countries in what can only be described as White-Flight. However, in big cities such as London and Birmingham, Whites are currently the slight minorities in this duo of cities. But in 11, of London’s 32 boroughs, non-whites range between 75-85 percent of their residents. Furthermore, there are another 6 broughs where non-whites will become the majority of the residents by 2027. With specific respect to Islam, its most ardent believers are always subservient to Allah and the Quran. To indisputably ascertain how dangerous Islam is to western societies can be garnered by viewing the KZread clip titled: ‘Three Quran Verses Every Jew Needs To Know’ Therein, the presenter spells it out in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS, exactly what is written in the Quran. In a nutshell, it is the duty of Muslims to either convert non-believers or to kill them. Between 2004, with the Atocha bombings, and later in London, in July 2005, along with Bataclan and Niece, etc, etc, all the way up Sir David Amess in 2021, there were 32 terrorist attacks carried out by Islamic fundamentalists: culminating with the heinous slaughter of 530 innocent souls. Yet, there has NEVER BEEN ONE SINGLE OCCASION that, any Muslim or Islamic group has unconditionally apologised for these crimes. Moreover, and, indeed, more abhorrent, NOR HAS THERE EVER BEEN one low-life treacherous politician or, gutless church leader who has condemned these actions by these primitive fundamentalists. Tragically, Britain, as it is certainly the case with the US, Canada, France and Australia, has had its culture totally destroyed by being swamped with immigrants from cultures/religions who can never be anything other than culturally-insular tribes.

The problem in our society today is there is a push to divide rather an emphasis on what unites us. I am British foremost and proud of it. My parents came to UK from Ghana. Their emphasis on assimilating. The school I attended is very similar to the school Katherine's school. We shared lunch in the same way. Interesting that the successful school is the one that is under attack.

When I was in a taxi in Egypt, I heard the prayers from the mosque speaker near by, I asked the driver what happens with praying when he has to work. He said it is OK, when you are working and feeding your family, that’s fulfilling his duty asked by God, and he prays inside his heart, it doesn’t need to be in a mosque or a room. I asked the same questions in several Muslim counties and got similar answers. I guess this would apply to school too. To study, to be educated is fulfilling duties asked by God, I can’t see the differences

She's so good at these, after the court case she should start a podcast around schools in UK to get the message out, talk to other heads of schools and see how they solve their problems and how much is common to so many schools in the UK, especially how she solves them.

just for your knowledge, the five prayers spread over 24 hours. In a typical school day, they do a one-noon prayer that eventually falls during lunch. And for your information students who pray never fall behind in their studies, in fact, their GCSE results are better than those who do not pray.

I attended Batley Grammar School in the 90s when it was still one of the highest achieving schools in our county, it had a huge number of Muslim and Sikh pupils and back then the school day was 9am till 4pm (longer than most state schools at the time). We didn't have prayer rooms or anything catering for special religious needs other than school dinners, but we all got on, there was next to no racism or anything like that. In RE lessons we studied everything from Judiaism and Islam to atheism, and there were no issues. There were loads of working class kids from poor families (including myself) thanks to Government assisted places and many went on to good things. The school was renowned for how well integrated the ethnic minority students were. After Blair's Labour Government abolished the assisted places scheme and imposed all kinds of regulation in the name of equality the school became a shell of its old self, which is why you had the shameful blasphemy incident in 2021, which led to a teacher's entire family being driven into hiding to this day. Katharine absolutely has to win this case. Michaela has achieved too much to deserve being dragged down to the level of most state schools. This is the entire problem with the liberal left's idea of equality, instead of looking up to people like Katharine and learning from them to raise standards for the average person they just want to bring successful people down to their level.

As a brown muslim brit I really enjoyed this video, definitely agree with a lot of what Katharine says and would be proud to have children in a school run by a person like her. It's sad that a tiny minority of absolutely bloody insane "muslims" are causing so much hassle for everyone including moderate normal muslims such as myself.

I'm not British and in this comment section I have struck many British who seem just as upset by Christian prayer as the reality that you left a vacuum and Islam has filled it. When I was at school we said the Lord's Prayer every morning and read from the Bible. We were a homogenous culture and everyone was at least nominally Christian even if they didn't go to church so nobody was offended. The only reason this stopped in government schools was to accommodate multicultural immigration.

It sounds like a nightmare ...all the attacks and threats on staff...even in their homes. Why has no one been arrested? Why don't police police out communities anymore. These are police matters, so where are the convictions? It sounds like such a stress. And you know, Ramadan is not fasting for a month.. it's just feasting at night instead of eating in the day as usual

I still remember how to say "stand up" and "write" in french so theres that. We personally didnt get along but i was a bit of a handful back then. Everyone i know said she was a great teacher but could be a bit strict.

Wow! Been waiting 50 years for my thoughts to be articulated like this. I was schooled in Rotherham 1963- 1977. Watched with dismay ever since.

This student was trying to extract the privileges he or she felt was their entitlement. And they made the right call to say no. Either they assimilate into western culture and embrace our values, or leave for one of the 53 Muslim states that are out there.

We don't need a grammar school in every town. We need a Katharine Birbalsingh and a Michaela School in every town. I live one tube stop away from Michaela and the behaviour of its students is excellent, far better thsn at the extremely tough all-boys' grammar school that I attended in the 1970s.

Why can’t every teacher be like this? Thank you for your service.

She’s also right about there being too much emphasis on student centred learning. The best French teacher I ever had only stayed at our school one year but I learned so much from her teacher centred approach. I still remember her.

I see none of the other religions are threatening the school to enforce their ways, only the religion of peace.

This is such a sad state of affairs. If there are muslim parents who can't live with this secularism then maybe they can home school their kids or send them to faith based schools or even move to a muslim country. Campaigning to change secular schools to accommodate muslim practices seems unrealistic.

What an amazing woman, her philosophy should be rolled out in schools across the country. I see no place for religion in schools.

She doesn't allow cultural expression because it divides kids but vehemently and repeatedly says multiculturalism hasn't failed.

First they want prayer rooms, then time off for prayers, washing facilities, halal, the right to wear the burka and ends with demands for single sex classes- NO

Sounds like the rules in the school i went to many years ago, same table rules and corridor movement, standing when teacher entered the room , uniforml. It creates equality , good manner and respect. Great learning environment .

I want good manners and respect EVERYWHERE in society so let's start forcing these rules into all workplaces so we can have those qualities there too. Are would that be holding adults to to high a standard of self control?

Japanese schools are similar to hold this type of education. The children also clean the schools.

Yes, that was my thought as she described the lunchtimes and so on. I was so impressed when I came across videos on the Japanese way in schools. It is a collective society of course, based on ideas of the 'greater good' and a culture founded on ideas of respect, and responsibility. (Not that it doesn't have it's drawbacks and conflicts of course).

I wish they would implement a little bit of Japanese school manners here. I saw it and I was like oh God UK needs that. Here it's like the kids run the school! Soft approach to everything. I grew up in Poland and in my time schools were what they were supposed to be, I don't know how it looks today. But UK...I had give a written permit for my child to be put in the naughty corner when she was acting like a little cow! I thought what is this?! Yo ain't teaching her anything! No respect no nothing! She is running you 😂mad
