    I think this is going to be huge for those of us who love athletics and also have cardio issues. I have a tachycardia (fast heartrate) issue that I'm dealing with and having the recorded ecg is fantastic for my cardiologist. Also, when it goes very high (over 200 beats per minute) I will go into a strain pattern where my heart doesn't get enough oxygen. Yeah. Bad. That's why this thing can make a difference.

    @@user-jh5fm7ci6o Yes. I did (in 2016), but the pathways can reform, which they have done over time. I asked the EP Cardio at the time about my higher heart rate and he was concerned that it would lead to irritability and increased risk of happening. My thought is that lower heart rate leads to decreased neuromuscular (nm) irritability, which allows for muscle to be built, which decreases inflammation and nm irritability. IF my little own theory is correct I might get better over time. If no, oops. Onto the next theory.

    Thanks for the review. Not many out there that have much thought in them. I've been using for about 3 weeks and yes ok for running but even if it worked for swimming I don't think you can bring the HR data into a Garmin watch like you can with the Garmin straps that work for swimming. I think the breathing rate which it measures is a valuable metric especially for Zone 2 training. But a really high price to get this data. I had hoped the other data like HRV, Strain etc would be useful. Also you can't adjust the heart rates used in their Zones to match the Garmin or other Zone setups. Don't know where their Zones come from. Also found their recommendations for future exercise not very useful because you just can't wear the HR monitor all the time for all activities unlike say a Garmin watch. The Garmin or Apple watch is recording everything pretty much so is aware of all the sports activities with and without a HR strap.

    Really good job. Good video. Enjoyed it. Even though you're not a doc, I appreciate your insights. For the most part they are not very far off (I'm a doc with a cardiac condition that may need to be monitored while playing sports). ]Coaches, I don't think, are going to need to to know the strain pattern or the ecg data. I spoke to the company today and they said that I can set up heartrate zones, which might be really great. I think that the swimming monitor might be better if they use something like a tri-top or almost like a snug-fitting bra. The US Men's National Soccer team uses something like this (it looks like a bra).

    5:32 cardiac strain. Matt did your value change much with your different workouts? Many training videos stress that you must push your body to higher levels to force it to adapt (get faster ) but a valid strain measurement could tell you if you've gone too far and might be causing damage to your heart. As a very old dude it seems more likely overdoing could backfire. Does the device explain this strain measurement? I know i go way over the 220 minus age value for estimating max HR. I recall an Ironman where 2 died in the swim. There is a need for strain data.

  • @mlegrand

    @mlegrand

    7 ай бұрын

    This is measuring strain differently. It's the millivolt differential. I didn't see big jumps in my testing but I've also put my heart through way too much with Ironman racing and otherwise. There is for sure a need for strain data. It'd be even better if it worked in the water. That's where most die in Ironman racing. Each time I swam, this thing didn't do well at all. Almost no recognizable data to work with.

    Im currently struggling with Afib and looked at this device but was put off by the price, I use a polar h10 for my training and would probably only really use this throughout the night to record and hopefully catch said episodes, it just seems so expensive. Are there any costs other than the price of the device? Cheers for the review.

  • @ShockTempo22

    @ShockTempo22

    It's very useful for AFIB, I've been tracking my own with this device for about 1.5 years now. It's long runtime and ability to give you initial AI heart rhythm results are great, and then you can always export those results to a cardiologist as a PDF anytime thereafter. I don't find the live streaming part particularly useful, but the ability to go back and track how often and how long you had an episode for is truly useful. Night result tracking is definitely a use case. Expensive yes, but well suited to this purpose if you can swing it. They run a remote consulting service (result interpretation basically) that you can pay extra for, but there are no extra costs for the device itself once you own one. My only real complaint with them is that I've had some really bad firmware updates that have screwed up the system more than once (causing connectivity and stability issues). They are pretty good at trying to fix it thereafter, but still rather annoying as they don't seem to do enough testing beforehand!

    I would love to know how the sharing of the ECG with others works. How do they get the data? Do I share my access code of the files that are stored on their cloud service? This sharing is HUGE and if works well is a HUGE selling point. However the sharing must be easy and not cumbersome for the other user you are sharing with. Also the data must be secure, how well is this done. Could anyone get access to this data for any reason?

    I have had one for 3+ plus year and stopped using it after only a few months of use. It NEVER worked for swimming and (as you said, it is pretty much a runner only HRM). Why they claim it can be used for swimming is beyond me. This is either an overkill training device made for runners or a mediocre (at best) medical grade ECG because it only records 2 leads. As you pointed out, it is good for someone coming back to training with a heart condition or after a heart event but for others it would have limited additional benefit for the price. However, using the device such as charging it, trying to turn it on is very frustrating. Having to press that cheap blue plastic button( have to press so hard) then hit connect. The unit sometimes would not wake up. You can not tell that it is charging or what the percent unless you dig somewhere in the app. Also, the battery does not last very long. People thought my garmin strap was malfunctioning, and the monitors the doctors sent me home with didn't catch anything. With the frontier, I was able to wear it every day, in every race, and eventually I caught my arrhythmia. The ECG tracing it provided was good enough for my doctor to diagnose me and set me up for surgery. So yeah, this HRM is a simple, but pricey solution to a problem that does exist.
