Thank you! And you are right: Under the tracks are two chains, driven by two motors. The chains has a little pin attached to it, which goes up through the slot and into the cars, pulling them this way. It was important that the cars could fall off if the speed got too high, otherwise the driver could just give full throttle - and there was no fun playing! Thanks for the nice words. /Mads

Thank you. We do our best :-) Next time, don't miss Legoland in Billund. Just avoid the high season, you won't see anything else than the backs of other people, and have five rides max because you spend the rest of the time waiting in line...

Mads, you are obviously a diplomat and should be foreign minister. If you won you would be sleeping in the spare room. On a serious note mass producing your system would allow a lot of kids to enjoy slot car racing. I was impressed with the modularity of your design. Well done.

Thank you for your kind words. And you're right, diplomacy is actually one of my most important skills. Mass producing could be interesting, but first I'd like to make one with a bridge, to make the traditionally 8-number shape. This one gives the B-track an advantage, since the distance the car has to go is slightly shorter than the A-track. But I haven't figured out exactly how to make a bridge work yet.

@@AstroDania Mags, if I had the financial ability I would back you. When you think about it the Scalextric and Carrera people should be interested as it could be a cost effective lead in to their systems. I had my first Scalextric set in 1965 and now I am in the position (and have the time) to think about getting back into slot car racing. The present sets from those manufacturers may seem prohibitive on price but the people I see on line enjoying those systems are all aged forty plus so giving kids a taste at ages eight to ten would be a worthwhile investment as they would build extensive tracks when they have a spare room after their children left home.

But the fact is, that marketing is the key. And I don't have the resources for sufficient marketing. It is expensive. But I want to thank you for your supportive words. It mean a lot.

Congratulations Mads !. This one would looks fantasitc in my N scale train layout. For the noise it makes and the wide of the slots on the track I assume all the mechanics and motor goes under the diorama, but I'm just trying to figure out how could be its design ?. Gonna leave this bad boy at 420 likes. Certainly well made. Would love to see a more elaborate track. Due to the small size, you could just have a bunch of tracks instead of many pieces. Neat.

Your drive system seems to be similar in concept to that used by the Matchbox Motorway system, that had a long spring in the track groove. I used to have one as a child back in the 70's. It could be quite the task to get the spring into the track groove after you'd assembled the track. I'm really impressed with your presentation. Very nice.

Thank you for the nice words. I've checked out the Matchbox Motorway system, that is some sweet toy! I do have a dream of making this system like the 'real' ones, where it is possible to build different tracks. This could be brilliant, not only for making race tracks, but also for roads on a model train in N-scale.

Amazing how you can now race 1:74 scale radio controlled cars.

Thanks for the idea about eBay. I must admit I already have given this a thought. However, the diorama did cost about $300 for all the parts, and it took quite a long time to put it together. And that does not include the shipping if it's bought by someone from the USA: From Denmark it'll be at least $150. And it have to be wrapped up seriously, if it shall not be damaged. So, $500, and the only benefit for me is to kiss my racetrack goodbye ;-)

Saw a large room-sized layout (one-off system, obviously) with hundreds of moving cars and busses at the NYC Worlds Fair? Long time ago. Always dreamed of being able to put an N-scale or Z-scale automobile and bus system integrated into the model train layout. Well, if I get some money from my best-selling book (hope! hope!) I will start working on it, yep.... :-)

I would love to have one how much do they cost to build do you have any type of plans or kits available

Including all components, I believe it have been around 500 $. But that also includes the LEGO motors and other LEGO parts underneath, plywood for the box with drawers, power supply, acrylic plates, electronics and everything. Regarding plans, I have some drawings, but not the complete instructions. The price for the components, except for the LEGO parts, would probably cost less in other countries.

I need this for my n scale layout!

Unfortunately it is not commercially available. I just made it for fun. But I'm trying to figure out if it could be possible to make a moduled race track in this size. So pieces of the track could be put together like any ordinary racetrack, i.e. Scalextric. That way it would be commercailly interesting and it could also be used to make the cars run around for real on a model train set in scale N. /Mads

Thank you for the kind words. As I wrote earlier, I was thinking about making the tracks as modules, to put together on a train layout and make the cars go live too. I'm still toying with that idea. However, it might be possible to make this exact race track as a unit (maybe in a simpler form) which could be added to a train setup. The biggest problems is production and marketing, as I don't know anything of either of them...!

Could be, but this way would make impossible to use the "chain system" under the table, and all the thing would be much more complicated to elaborate and more expensive too. I think the best approaching way for commercial purposes is making a small diorama, just like you have today (see 2)

Hej Mads. Tak for svar. Jeg har lige købt en del brugt Scalextric racerbane i 1:32 størrelse, en mindre bane fylder hele mit stuegulv nu, har også købt et brugt sæt Carrera GO racerbare i 1:43 målstok, jeg dog ikke samlet den endnu. Jeg kigger lidt på HO Slot Car racerbane i 1:64 størrelse, da selv 1:43 racerbane vil fylde en del i en stue, så hvisdet er lige så sjovt at køre med 1:64 målstok racerbare som Scalextric 1:32 så hvorfor ikke prøver det :-) Din lille micro racerbare er unik i størrelse, ser ud biler er i størrelse til HO Marklin modeljernbane, jeg haft en del af de biler til Marklin modeljernebane, det er meget fine små model biler, har du overvejet at ombygge biler fra Marklin HO ? Mvh john.

Jeg tror at de Marklin HO modeljernbane biler ville være gode til micro slot car, de er meget fine, men ved ikke om man kan indbygge en lille elmotor ind i dem og strømskinne, men små LED dioder flyder ikke meget i dag, så måske du kan sætte lys i forlygte også med ne micro diode ?

Jeg syntes du skal bygge noget større næste gang som 120 cm x 60 cm eller 150 cm x 75 cm, så der plads til en rigtig langside med pitstop og en lang bro et sted og lidt scenery også .-)

For resten. til Marklin HO togbane findes der allerede system med de små HO biler som kan køre på veje, det har jeg helt glemt, man kan alleder få små micro biler der kan køre på en eller anden måde, men det ved de i en hobbybutik der forhandler Marklin, sådan bilsystem med biler der kan køre på veje, med motor i.

What scale size is it ? I mean the cars ? Are they hand made ? Could you please post some videos how the car looks like from inside and outside ?

The scale is 1:160 scale, approximately half the size of HO scale. I did not make the cars, they are available in most train-hobby stores. The inside of the cars would be quite boring, since there is no mechanics in them. They are just pulled along the track with a small pin, placed in a chain underneath the road.

@@AstroDania Okay I got your point. I forgot the name of that technology. It looks as if the car has inbuilt motor inside but in reality it's the opposite. There must be a magnet or as you said a pin which is placed in the middle and that is hooked at the bottom of the chain which is below the above layer if I am not mistaken. Thank you. And thanks for your offer, but it will be very expensive. In parts alone this was approximately 500$, and it took a loong time putting it together, as I only have my weekends :-) On top of that comes the transport to the US: It's a fragile piece of work, and I have to pack this extremely well for it to arrive safe and sound. Besides, why not make one yourself? It takes the time, but it's not that difficult. And on top of that, you could integrate it much better with your existing setup?

That was a race track all right, and small too, but you just shot the cars off, and looked at how it ended. It was not a real race track, with hand speeders, where you could control the cars while driving.

But I have always been interested in very small items that keep their functionality, so if you can provide a link or something, I'd really appreciate it.

That is right, the chain system needs to be replaced by something else. But I do have an idea, where the pieces of "road" do not need to be more than 5 mm thick. This could work - and apply for the other train sizes too, H0, Z, and maybe T-gauge.

Mads Aggerholm No. It's not funny at all. You have a lot of slot car enthusiasts around the world who take this sport very seriously, both track and car and spend a lot of time to make the car faster with fine tuning the motor, chassi, body, tyres etc, more or less what happens in the real motor world racing. Your little "cinderella" track has nothing to do with that and for me and others it's a fake and as such have no value. You have no motor in the cars, do not think about chassi, body or tyres or even track. What you have is nothing. I can give you , you have a cute little display which I'm sure you have spent a lot of time and some money on, but call that slot cars, is not true and therefore is a fake. Matchbox motorway and Matchbox are since long ago gone and it's a reason for that.

I never called this 'slot cars', I refer to it as a 'race track' as you see in the headline. By 'fake' I thought you ment it didn't exist in real life, and it was something computer-generated. That's why I came to think of all the moon-hoax people and their claims that the moon landing was faked using computer graphics. But I acknowledge there is people who is very enthusiastic about their hobbies about slot cars, and I sincerely hope that I have not taken anything away from them by creating this. Have a nice day!
