In the 1960s our boy scout troop made our own fire starter kits for all those camp-outs in the rain. We rescued the Tuna cans from the garbage after our mothers used them. we cut corrugated cardboard into can wide strips and poured melted paraffin, leaving a small hole in the center to fill as a candle with a piece of kite string soaked in the wax for a wick. Had to make sure the cardboard soaked in the wax.

We had a similar fuse when I started mining four decades ago, it even burned under water, we even set off a blast in deep water, 100' when the mining shaft was plugged w/the water ! When it let go, it buried the level below to 500' either way, lots of mucking for a week around the clock.....anyways, the fuse got the ball going !

This actually isn’t the first type of fuse fire starter back in Vietnam Emergency supply kits they contained a small wax brick with kerosene inside and when you pulled the fuse it would cause the kerosene to ignite then causing the wax to catch fire some how and start your fire.
