I've been lurking your streams and videos for the last I dunno, 7 or so years? This is legit the happiest I've ever seen you, and I don't mean that to be negative in any way, shape, or form. Not only are you insanely godlike at this game, you have the ability to stay engaged with your community nearly the entire time. It's unreal to watch. Oats has BEEN the regent Metroid player for years and years. Every 2d Metroid record was broken at least once if not still held by him. 🎉 Edit: I don't believe he attempted OG Metroid, OR Metroid II but I could be mistaken, he's been running this for a long long time.

I've never seen Goats so happy. The pure emotions seen here are so raw. You can tell how genuinely happy he is. I'm kinda a poor guy, so I normally don't ever donate. But after seeing such a massive achievement from him, I'm gonna send him a donation for the first time to show my support. What a fucking legend.

God it's so crazy, I still remember your first sub-41 record, and here you've not only beaten the WR, but SHATTERED it, with the first sub 40:40. Fucking incredible dude, you've earned every bit of pride you can feel, I've loved seeing this journey. Congrats man

Absolute world record *demolition* . 9.2s. I can't even begin to imagine how cathartic it has to feel to finally tear this thing down after so long! The goatster absolutely did it.

I think it’s so important to note that Oats throughout this entire run did not just sit there and play. He conversed with his chat, read it, interacted, and yes, focused in specific parts. But compared to Zoasty? It’s just insanely different and WAY more impressive to watch Oats speed run while multitasking and talking to his chat. It’s beautiful.

He's said that it helps him focus/not overthink....he's got a different type of brain for this thing and I think I can relate, maybe slightly ADD or whatever, similar idea For me he's a better speedrun streamer than most, since it's better if I want to catch a stream casually, he's a great speedrunner still while riffing with chat

I remember as a kid thinking that I was probably one of the best people in the world at Super-Metroid because I had beaten it in under an hour in-game time. Initially, I felt pretty inadequate as a gamer when I found the speedrunning community and GDQ, but it's been amazing to see so many people even more passionate about these games than me. Thanks for showcasing all this cool stuff through the years and for fostering the community around this game and the various randomizers, remixes, and hacks of it. You've def earned this WR. I've watched hundreds of Oats Speed Runs over the last 12 years and I can tell this is the one to end them all. Hell its possible no one in the world will EVER beat this 40:36! I mean he's NINE SECONDS ahead of Zoast's best! WAY TO GO OATS! YOU ARE A LEGEND!!! I always knew you were the best and I've always had the time of my life watching you live with my adrenaline pumped up to the max. I'm so happy to see all this hard work, blood, sweat and tears have paid off. You deserve it bro!

Could feel the strain during MB, was hard to watch even knowing the result, I can barely imagine what must have been going through your mind. So much work went into this, and it couldn't be more deserved. Thanks for bringing us along with you and always being entertaining and engaging. In my opinion, SM any% is the top record in speedrunning, so to me you just smashed the 100m sprint of gaming. Looking forward to the next challenge, but for now, I hope you can take a well deserved break.

Idk, I've always thought of SMB1 as the 100m dash. SM64 is the 1500m, and Super Metroid is the decathlon maybe. :D

Congrats Oats! All the persistence paid off and you didn't just beat, but you absolutely smashed that WR!

I wasn't able to watch live, but have certainly watched over the last year plus and watched the progression as you chipped away at your PBs and then this WR. I can honestly say I choked up a bit watching your reaction at the end. You can 100% FEEL the relief set in and the pressure dissipate into the air when you looked down at the time. So many variables, so many attempts, so much frustration and agony that we, as the viewer, don't necessarily understand. With that, I do think we all felt the same relief for you. The anxiety was always there when we watched a run that was pushing the WR pace. I hope this was your "goal time" and you can rest on Any% for the time being. Watching you crush a game I'm so fond of from my childhood, and even my adulthood, is one of the more satisfying things I've witnessed recently. You, and the SM community are achieving things I never thought possible when I started playing this game almost two decades ago. Keep up the fantastic work, Oats. This community is behind you, for sure.

For anyone thinking of doing it - don't feel pressured, inform yourself well and if it is for you and you personaly would and want to spend the money and sit through any of the eye operations do it. For me personaly it was worth it and I'm very happy with my descision.
