As an old-school sm64 TASer, it amazes me that people are even able to perform a perfect side blj into the dire dire docks door. You don't even know. The absolute dedication that speedruners have will never fail to amaze me
I had a big smile watching that 16 star reaction through gritted teeth at the abrasiveness of it. I think I got to experience a small piece of that nervous elation Suigi was feeling.
I think it would be interesting seeing a video on how the authenticators check runs like this. The suspicions must be high with getting two perfect runs so close to each other so I'm guessing there's been extra scrutiny of Suigi? Reckon you could grab some interviews?

I was wondering the same thing. Sort of ironic that it's some of Karl's other videos, those about cheaters in speedrunning, which make me think about this.

Bot copy pasting your comment aside, it isn’t like Suigi just played a single run for both categories and got two world records. He has put a ton of time into these tricks and mastering the movement. Not saying it’s impossible but it’s highly unlikely.

@@TheGuyWhoIsSittingit wouldn't be the first time a top runner has faked a wr. Sometimes there's a feeling of "I've come so close so many times" "I've put so much time into this" and "I deserve it". I'm not saying the runs were faked, but ruling it out on cred alone is a recipe for disaster. Every wr in a competitive game like this, especially ones as landmark and sea changing as these runs are, should be checked as thoroughly as possible. Personally, I also think hand cams should be required for top times in all games.
@GameCarpenter

@@TheGuyWhoIsSitting To the contrary, as seen before, people who put more time into a game also think they are more deserving. He is also full of risk factors for it imho. A lot of people put a lot of time in without these results. Two WRs in quick succession seems more unlikely to me. That being said, regardless of my suspicions, its up to the experts to do an analysis if they care, and right now, it seems like they're satisfied. I don't run it, and I haven't even been following his progress so my concerns shouldn't carry any weight. I haven't even heard of him until this came to light, so I assume he hasn't been relevent at the WR level for very long compared to other SM64 runners. But I don't follow it that closely, so again, I wouldn't know. He could have done more to make it clear his runs were legitimate, such as not cutting off his hands during the streams. You would think that would come up once you start getting WRs, but it might not be practical for his set up so *shrug*
I love watching these and the commentary is great. Even as someone who enjoys gaming it is hard to grasp how difficult these feats really are and I love the reactions when a speed run succeeds (or fails) because it just shows so much passion there is and how tense it must be. So good 🎉
fantastic video honestly thank you. Had me hooked the entire time. The introductory outline was perfect and I enjoyed seeing you expand on all the details

watching this run live was insane... being in the community since 2014 its absolutely insane seeing where the games have been pushed too
15 seconds in a short category like that is unheard of. Imagine being so far ahead you could accidentally drop your controller after the third bowser throw, struggle a bit to find it, sit back up, and grab the star and still have a world record seconds ahead in a category where litterally milliseconds seperate people at the very top.
Actually beautiful. Everyone watching this video is happy this was achieved and he’s going to clear the entire series speedrun categories 5/5. We’re just lucky to be here to see it
It's so funny how hard the change up was. He was cool and collected, then started ugly crying lol great run, and great video
It's always a surprise to see this game and GoldenEye get even more broken and played faster.
You gotta love how hype he was. Instantly puts a smile on your face. Dude is an absolute machine!
The fucking voice cracks that are 1000% raw, unfiltered happiness. Good job dude!
Suigi is on it's way to become the zeromaster of Mario 64
Only a quarter into 2023 and a Perfect Mario 64 is looking incredibly close after seeing the records slowly creep further and further down every year
You could see the genuine excitement and unbelief at his run. That's so cool!
Year from now we are going to learn that he somehow TASed it.

SM64 has a speedrunning community that has always pealed the highest zeniths, so for once I can accept that this speedrunner got the perfect run without question.
8:18 damn, that immediate “World Record is 6.58.46 by me” under his cam😂😂
Imagine this from Bowser's perspective, just watching this red blur glitch through doors and jump up cliffs, and knowing that he only has a few minutes before Mario finds him.

In his mind his goal was probably a 14:39-38, accounting for some small errors, so it really speaks volumes and shows how truly shocked he actually was at his 14:35 after somehow nailing the entire run without a single real mistake. It truly is a work of art, outside of maybe three micro errors losing a frame or two it's basically perfect.
He just got 46:41 70 star world record 4/5 records for him

12:18 my man picks up a rag to wipe the sweat off his hands. I've been there before, but never at the level of intensity I'm sure he was experiencing.
Going back over and over (and per simply) on the 16 star run, the most time that could have been gained from just tad bit more optimization off of that run, is 1.5, MAYBE 2 seconds. And that has to be 100% optimized purely perfect not even the slightest of mistakes. Purely insane.

This was mentioned in the video. Another runner has segment times that, if stitched together, would beat this. So the potential is there, even aside from something unforeseen like new strats being discovered and developed.

either someone has to play even more perfect and get constant millisecond time increases or some big discoveries has to be made with new strategies. safe to say this is gonna be one of the longest running records in modern speedrunning history. and its on one of the biggest games in speedrunning. thats insane man.

Bro, even though we all know how it ends, you still manage to expertly weave suspense into your narration. It's really well done. And man, the kids reaction is epic. I love watching for the reactions almost as much as the actual content. This kid is something else, man. Insane skills.
Like you yourself have said many, many times - it is never over. Whenever anyone proclaims that a time has been perfected and the community has reached the limit, something appears seemingly out of nowhere and shatters everyone's belief. Now we just wait for that moment to happen :D
I just hope that this video doesn't end up having to be looked back at as an example of "we all thought he was the greatest, but he was the worst"
I was in the middle of playing a game at the same time of watching this video, and even though I've seen Suigi's run twice before because it's that fucking insane, I just stopped playing and couldn't take my eyes off the run once again. Congrats to him, what a true legend 🎉
