    All muscles have a theoretical limit to their force production in relation to cross sectional area which is based on the physical parameters of the sarcomere, the contractile unit of muscle. The contractile strength of sarcomeres vary between species because some species have longer sarcomeres, which in turn have more overlapping actin and myosin, which in turn generates more force in relation to the csa. Crustaceans have longer sarcomeres than humans, and their muscles can therefore generate proportionally more force for a given size, in some cases almost twice as much as human muscle of equal size. Based on his strength, and his performance on the shield carry, I propose that Hooper is in fact a crustacean.

    Do you have any recommendations for practicing axle CAP in the gym? I usually have to practice with a barbell because gyms dont usually have axles. The issue being that I dont want to drop the weights from overhead. So i usually end up having to lower it onto my chest from overhead, which is getting likd of scary to do as the weights are getting heavier.

    I do power clean and press but I haven’t incorporated the ‘axel’ stall or jerk portion. I generate so much force off the ground that I find it uncomfortable to sink my body to catch it above me (I’d fall backwards with the weight) and feel off balance with the staggered legs. Besides, I’m not sure I could press more than I could upright row. I feel I’d have some potential in this event. How would you recommend someone transition to the axel from this background if they wanted to compete? Go lighter and start with technique? Seems counter intuitive to me for some reason.

    Mitch is just being smart and playing by the rules using a split jerk technique. While it’s legal why wouldn’t he do it like this. He didn’t write the rules of strongman. However I do think at some point the rules will change to say that this is a different lift to axel press, similar to how sumo and conventional deadlift are different. Until then let’s see how far Mitch can push this record.👍

  • @sagebauer1077

    @sagebauer1077

    Idk man. Sumo and convential feel different to me because the end position is different. With a split jerk, its not like you stop the lift with your legs apart, you still have to stand up straight and end up in the exact same position. I dont think strongman should ban anything between the start & end position unless its super dangerous ( ie log on head)

    Oh my Mitchell! How you re rack at that weight and hit it second time shows how much gas you have in the tank cardio wise compared to the other amazing athletes in the sport. Ive seen you do it multiple times now where I think, nah hes messed it up and you go on to do more reps. So impressive Mitchell honestly you keep inspiring me to work hard and not give in... and also be the kindest person I can be.
