World Of Warships: Cruising, But Not For A Bruising

Ойындар

This is my second World Of Warships video and I aim to convey something of the experience of a new player of the game, something you have, perhaps, long forgotten. It features a battle in the Kuma that I thought was good for a new player. If you disagree, or have other observations, please be sure to leave them in the comments below!

Great game TheNobleQ... On where to aim against a broadside ship, a few things: 1. Generally use AP. If your shells are bouncing then aim higher into the superstructure or right at the deck line. Aiming at the deck line actually means that the arc of the shells will penetrate the deck and have a chance to cause hate and discontent in the innards of the ship (a citadel). 2. Aiming lower to the waterline if your shells are bouncing midway up the hull is likely 'not a starter'. The armor will be heavier there. Move higher, to where the armor is lighter. 3. If you are overpenning that means that your shells are hitting with such force that they actually pass completely through the hull without detonating. You will only get about 10% of the max damage for an overpen. Again, aiming for the deck line at that point is probably preferable. Happy Hunting

This is wonderful to see! Love the game, as well as WOWP and WOT, and am thrilled to see you "dive" into the WOWS. I am looking forward to your insights and I am sure that I will have a thing to two or three to learn from your analytical take on things. Thank you for doing this.

Well, I will share what I learn in videos like these. What I know at the moment is that I know next to nothing!

In a Kuma. That's impressive. My impression of that ship is that it is a big floating citadel, made from paper ...

Thank you! That engagement with the De Ruyter would have been played very differently if it had been a human player with a good aim. The Kuma is apt to explode if presented broadside to a cruiser, I believe.

The early Japanese cruisers are some of the most fun I've had. Glad to see what you can do in them! Also, when fighting carriers, you might want to focus your AA on the incoming sector by pressing the o key on the side that has enemy aircraft incoming. It boosts your AA on that side of the ship by up to 50%, but reduces the AA on the other side by the same.

Thank you for the tip. I'll keep trying to use that AA control!

I came the other direction - started out with WoWS and moved to WoWP about 3 years ago. Haven't really played ships since. Playing ships is kind of like getting a taste of what WoWP could be if they were properly funded/staffed. It'll be interesting to watch your progression, though I don't think I got beyond Tier 5 or 6. Fair winds and following seas!

How have you found your journey in WoWp? I had a lot of people urging me to play Ships, so I thought I'd give it a go. People have been helpful, but I thought there would be more of a community feel to the game, unlike WoWp because of its relatively low player base. However, it hasn't worked out that way. We'll see. For the moment there's enough interest in the game for me to keep ploughing on.

@@TheNobleQ the community in WoWP is really what kept me around for the last 3 years. It's probably, overall, one of the friendliest and helpful gaming communities I've run across. Of course, having videos from you, Postal, VeeBat, HZero and others has been quite helpful as well, as I slowly climb the tech trees. With the smaller player base (especially on NA, where I fly), its very easy to find someone who has an answer to your question or some helpful advice. I may dip my toe back in ships at some point, as I think WoWS is much more fully developed than their competitor, but its an entirely different mindset (plus no respawns - once you're out, you're out). It's also getting constant new content, so the meta is much more dynamic than in planes.

The Planes community has been great, for the most part, for the five and more years I've been playing the game if you compare it to the unpleasant behaviour in Tanks and, to a lesser extent IMO, Ships. Of course, having limited development is a double-edged sword, balanced between the game becoming stale and the risk of it becoming something you don't like. I was hoping 2023 would see a shift in what the WoWp team was doing with a game and, in some small ways, it did, but currently I play only when there's the occasional new content and tend to do other things when there isn't. That's the problem of being at the end of the game. However, I enjoyed the journey and the community. You can't ask for more than that.

I disagree. At low tier the small Caliber will just ricochet on the bridge or on the Hull if the CV IS not 100% broadside. He is more effective in this case. With a BB yes.
