World Of Warships: Getting To Grips With Destroyers

This is another video in my occasional World Of Warships series where I aim to convey something of the experience of a new player, something you have, perhaps, long forgotten. It features a battle in the Japanese tier IV destroyer, the Isokaze that was a considerable leap forwards from the public play on a recent Twitch stream. I've since gone on to improve further, but I wanted to capture the very beginnings of more thoughtful and effective play in destroyers on my part. Please feel free to add your observations in the comments below!

Great improvement! Its great to see your figuring your way around in Wows. A few things to take note of. I noticed that you were holding on to your speed boost for a while. when hunting carriers, you want anything that can make you harder to hit. Next, I noticed that you were saving the last rack torps. This is actually a great strat, but with the Isokaze's insanely fast torpedo reload, it is somewhat unnecessary. Lastly, you can actually fire at ships outside your torpedo range if they are closing in. the same goes for ships that are moving out side of your torpedo range, but in reverse. All together, your doing a god job. Keep it up!

That was a great game. I find DDs difficult to play as well. Life will get much easier - and you will be much more effective - once you acquire the 'Concealment' skill. The 'Concealment' captain's skill is a 4pt skill. It is almost a given for DDs. It reduces your concealment by 10% and at high tiers (which I have not attained) stacks with a concealment piece of equipment. Only pure gunboat DDs with absolutely horrid concealment will bypass it and go for one of the gunnery skills. One thing to watch for... CVs are the bane of DDs. If you are trying to cap, a well played CV will just keep chip shotting you (or, devastating you). Even if the chap just chips at you the cap will be 'reset'. So, basically, it is unsafe and ineffective to cap while a CV is still in play. Sometimes you do it to 'ring the bell' and force the CV off other targets, but usually it is safer to stealth torp a CV. If you think about it, the CV player is playing his planes. He is not really controlling his ship. His ship is on autopilot and heading in a straight line at a constant speed toward a waypoint. You can take him out if you are smart about your concealment.

Thank you for those tips. I have already learnt that, often, "thou shalt not allow a CV to continue sailing"!

Nice game 😊 I like the japanese DD but difficult to play AT hight tier because of her lack of AA. The carrier just eat you alive.
