Jingles its 15 seconds to the end of the match. The CV is safely hiding behind an island and WIFU's team are up by 134 points. The Sub chose violence because there was no way for him to win anyway so he decided he might as well go down fighting. Also at that range his torpedoes only do 10% damage which makes his deck gun actually better if it hits. He didn't throw the match.

The old man missed the mark on this one, this was a game of desperation, the U-69 was, as much as I hate subs, a champion, he gave it everything desperately hoping to somehow win. From trying to bait the opposition to fight when it was an easy win on points, yeah. If anything, the Jervis player was close to a win harder loss.

@@boydy7351 Agree the Sub captain went down fighting with his defiant use of his deck gun to try and claim one more kill. Still believe all subs should be able to control their deck guns like the Jap sub. I suspect he might be a DD player in his other life. In fact this really wasn't a game of throws as the sub's team never really had the lead points wise and were always playing catchup.

  • @variableknife4702

So - someone had to sink the Jervis. Otherwise, the game ends and they win on points. However, the game would not end early on points (aka 1000) so long as the sub was in the cap circle. The remaining time in the game was the difference. All the U-69 could do is come in guns-blazing and desperate. IDK if there was even time for shell flight.

  • @VincentNajger1

the last cap they had wasn't generating any points coz it was contested by the sub. All the sub had to do was stay submerged until the clock ran down and it would have been a draw. So yes.....this was close and either side could throw it, which is the essence of Game of Throws, and this time it was the enemy team that threw him a victory, rather than accepting a very close draw..

From one old DD skipper to any who still sail: USE YOUR AP AMMUNITION. It is easy to forget we have it, but armor-piercing ammo on destroyers can be very effective and lethal, especially if you got six good British barrels to deliver it against very light cruisers giving broadside under 10 km.

There's a mod that shows the centres of smokescreens - (where the ship generating them is) I'm guessing that the U69 was using that which led to its pings being so good... WoWs really needs to do something about it.

  • @Roytulin

    @Roytulin

Thing is, because all smoke are circles, the centre can be interpolated from just the boundary. It's hard to see what WG can do about it, since anyone can do it, it's just that a program does it more quickly.

The U69 may have also been using the hydrophone consumable, which gives you a "shadow" every few seconds of enemy ships within its range. If you're well practiced with it, you can hit pings on "unspotted" targets.

11:50 that wasn't a blind ping. Subs get a 1-ping sonar detection tool that indicates enemies on the minimap and visually shows a "shadow" of the enemies on the surface. If said enemy isn't moving, it's very easy to just hit the aiming sonar ping. This seems confusing because both things are sonar and use pings, but they're different abilities. One serves to detect enemies, the other is like a secret "photo" radar.

The other issues is that submarine torps stop homing within a certain distance of the ship they're homing on- in BBs it's quite a distance (basically if you can see them they're not homing anymore) in dds its no distance at all (can't remember the actual numbers) so ironically yet again bbs are much better off against subs than dds....

These U-69 sonar pings were suspiciously good, imo.

Or you can also remember they have a Sonar Detection that pings surface ships when not detected, which people always forget, and that when you use it ans see a DD in smoke you can blind ping easily : people are not full speed in smokes.

You realize even more how much he thre when u remember that submarines dont do even close to full dmg with torpedos when closer than 3km. He wouldn’t even have done 1k or even 500 damage to the destroyer on 4k health, basically meaning he just handed him the win ☠️

Not to be too critical since it's often hard to think clearly in the heat of battle, but I suspect this game could possible have been won more quickly if waifu had pressed the "2"-key when shooting at the Omaha and Almirante Cochrane.

I think you are underestimating how much distance comes in play. Omaha is made out of citadel, but citadel is still a 76 mm plate. Jervis has 77 mm penetration @ 6 km. At the ranges they where fighting, the Jervis penetration angle at an 76 mm belt drops from 18 (at 6 km) to 0 degrees (6.1 km). Omaha was hanging around 6 km some of the time, Almirante was always out near 7 km range. At this range, HE was definitely the more consistent choice, AP would be easily deflected, and a pro like Flambass knows that. Jervis 4.7" guns are quite a drawback at this midrange.

That argument about how "an afk carrier could defeat a submarine player" is pretty much only moot point if the sub moves into a certain range of the carrier. That automatic anti-submarine plane that is launched from the carrier DOES NOT have 10km+ range that most Tier 6 subs get on their torpedoes. Case in point, Serov's anti-sub fighter has a range of exactly 6km. So as long as that U-69 had stayed at least 6km away from the carrier, the automatic anti-submarine flight would be a non-issue. And U-69 has 11.5km range on its torpedoes. There is no reason whatsoever to get inside the 6km of the target when you can fire torpedoes at it with impunity from anywhere from 6.5-11.5km.
