Ysera's rebirth was my absolute fave, Night Queen lost one of her leaves to revive her - imagine the anima!

Also rewatching this now I really have to admit that although stuff was poorly written and story was very shallow, I still like the Sylvanas and Anduin dynamic in that expansion. I have a feeling we might get more of that during Midnight expansion because that seems to be focused on elves, sunwell and Quel'thalas.

The most annoying part of this is how dirty they did the soul of Arthas, and that Jaina didn't get a single word in towards his last piece of his soul when she and Uther were the closest to him of anyone.

im not saying she didn't, im saying out of everyone there she was the least relevant to him. She was literally no more relevant to him than any other nameless person turned undead or slaughtered by him. She is relevant to WoW, not him. @@evanplays1945

for some reason they found a way to villainize Arthas even after his death - even though he was clearly corrupted to be the lich king. This was clearly a last ditch effort to make the fans care about the narrative at that point. "hey you, yes you intern writer! don't forger to incorporate Arthas btw! everybody loves Arthas so just toss him in there" type shi

@@ReyRey277 Yeah, that part bothered me. Just as Sylvanas was *dominated* by lich king's influence. Arthas too was dominated by it. Arthas was controlled into killing his father and all of his people when it was the reason why he was so hellbent on taking down the demons. To protect his homeland. She was also controlled/dominated into killing her own people. If anyone should understand, it's her. Heck, he was under much more control/domination than her, and for much much much longer. He only regains his own will few moments before he dies, where he is unjustly taken and thrown into the maw to suffer, only to be used further for domination and eventually lost completely. His saga is tragic and it's weird that everyone villainized him so hard to the absolute end, even in the end when he was finally free, even though what was left wasn't even a soul. If anything, his soul would probably go to Revendreth, he would need to face punishment for what he did in strathholme and how he set up the mercinaries in warcraft 3, to take the fall so he could continue the mission. Revendreth was designed to punish souls but also help them overcome their sins and become better overtime.

@@allifreyr Was it stated before SL that Arthas was being controlled when he did all those atrocities as the Lich King? I remember it being left ambiguous, and then people would argue whether he was just a shitty guy (citing Stratholme) or whether it was the Helm/Ner'Zul/the Dreadlords/etc. I feel like making the Lich King business unambiguously not his fault is a HUGE character assassination.

Quit retail before SL. First time seeing the story playout. Some really epic nods to the past, Uther, Arthas etc, feel I missed out. Still, classic SL out in .. 5-ish years..

Only thing I have noticed without thrall the horde continues to get megalomaniac war chiefs

@@JACpotatos I am sorry but anybody who expected that Sylvanas would be killed during Shadowlands was a moron who doesn't understand how incredibly popular that character is. You do not kill off character that is literally used to sell merch.

Parts of the Shadowlands story are underrated. The opening cinematic is completely on point and audacious. People think that the writers shat on Sylvanas, but in this cinematic they are faithful to her character. If she was truly a one-dimensional villain they would have had her don the Helm. Instead she broke the fucking thing in half, which is exactly what Sylvanas would do. Sylvanas is driven by two conflicting urges: the desire to properly yeet herself from existence and the desire for vengeance. There is also a desire she keeps locked away which is to taste real life and love once more. All of those feelings absolutely compelled her to break the Helm. So yeah there were compelling story moments, but its true that a lot of Shadowlands was dreadfully mid. So many zones were contenders for shittest zones I've ever played. Bastion left a horrible taste in my mouth, and people loved it at first which was baffling. Ardenweald, Oribos and Zereth Mortis were also gross. The only places that felt remotely death-ish were Maldraxxus, Revendreth and the Maw/Torghast, and even they were very one-note. It's prolly just subjective cos a lot of people like generic fairyland, and draxx and rev were just generic deathy places for the most part. So yeah I'll concede that the other zones weren't for me. But there wasn't a single zone in the entire expansion that felt truly compelling. Zereth Mortis felt like a sublime commodification of wow. Which made sense given its purpose, but I couldn't shake the feeling that the entire zone was a metaphor for modern WoW. Just lifeless artifice and pale imitations of a real story with real characters. You have little notes of humanity sprinkled in here and there, but not much that I can really connect with, so the game does end up becoming a world quest grind because, ironically, that is more compelling than the story.

i would have had her sacrifice herself to save azeroth from the merging of the sgadowlands with the azeroth realm, she liked auduin

loved the expansion up until the ending, could've ended it by setting the stage for next expansion having the shadowlands enter the azeroth realm, but nope, had to end it having the jailer be a dying robot, could've had a expansion where we had to go to the dragon isile to find a new control of the scourge

i really hope they bring sylvanas back tho

Sylvanus had a harsh ending, but I get it-- can't wait for her return

About 30 min in, I find I've been skipping the scenes that don't involve Sylvanas or the other Azerothian characters; the animation also has a clear dip in quality

I liked it, the only thing i truly disliked it is that it doesn't answer what happened to the Blightcaller. And they should have used Arthas soul to help defeat the jailer and bring some sort of consolation to Uther for sending him to the maw unaware that the was being controlled.

I felt bad for Sylvanas she was dealt a raw deal she was killed made to serve at the end found a way to help defeat the evil. Why condemn her she was a victim as well she should've been forgiven. Hope the writers turns this story line into a happy ending I really don't want to see it end on a bad note for Sylvanas.

Well Blizz could just look into their own records and discover that Sylvanas was once a character that cared for those who've been dealt the same hand as her... but thats pre Pandaria lore and we dont do that here...

I get what certain fans mean by "The writers being faithful to Sylvanas's character", but this enormous tangent with all of these rando's in Bastion is what mutilated any desire I had to play this x-pack. It was just bad, simple as that. sorry. :(

This expansion was garbage but the Anduin and Sylvanad stuff is pretty good. Hopefully they retcon this junk, though. And dragon flight, tbh.
