Worktop Mishaps and Getting into Hot Water! Builder Destroys His Own Home #17

There's a problem with the worktops! In this episode I'll explain what went wrong then ask if you would use the company having been given all the information.
Meanwhile, there's plenty of progress happening elsewhere around the house...
Big thank you to Brad for doing such a great job fitting the worktops, here is his number if you need his services:
07376 287162
and also thank you to Sam who did a fantastic job fitting the floor and organising Ardent to complete the survey to establish whether the floor is dry enough for the floor to be laid. He really did do the lot and I'm extremely happy with the result.
Here is his number:

    Great finished job Adam, you should be super proud. On the worktop problem, I totally agree with you. Signing off the template, you are not signing for the accuracy of fit! Had the templating/survey been carried out using a digital scan, then you would have never known! Great video..

    Absolutely fab, issues are all relative to the owner/user. I can live with the groove issue because I probably like the randomness versus geometric precision. Agree with the gap issue, firms do themselves harm in the customer service element when they want to brush things aside. We all make mistakes it’s how companies deal with these things that make them the best versus worst. Love the spray work and again and again your attention to detail is mind blowing. Our good news is we’ve sold our house and bought our bungalow but we’ve been here before so for the next 4 months it will be nail biting time and your work I can only dream of aspiring to. The floor is great I’m just doing similar in my lads salon basement in Brum and we’ve had 2 coats of DPC prior to the latex covering. And the company dealing with the floor is one of those we will sort it don’t worry outfits versus the sort 😂that suck air through their teeth and don’t come back. Hopefully finished next weekend 100 metres square. At my age so much going on. I wish you will be well sorted for Christmas. All the best to all of you. Mike 😜👍🏻

    Nicely timed video. I've got the same doors in pre primed white so great to see your take on spraying them. With regards to your runs in paint you could sand the runs with wet and dry paper then just roller the paint over the effected area. The best roller to use which gives an almost flat finish similar to spray is the 'rota concave mini roller' they're grey and less than a tenner for a pack.

    Solid job on the kitchen. In the end... I guess it's price vs perfection, if you're paying out the rear and not getting perfection then you don't recommend, if you're paying for a solid job in a world where you have to take the ups with the downs ... you make peace with value and then quality where you can afford the time, money or hassle to demand it. ... Also, bucket sink is genius.

  • @BrookeSimmons
    @BrookeSimmons7 ай бұрын

    I would absolutely have sent the sink bit back because I wouldn't ever get used to seeing misaligned groove edges (I spotted it well before you mentioned it in the video) -- definitely a first world problem, but a first world problem every. single. time it comes into view? For that money? No way. But then, I wouldn't have the grooves at all because I'd rather have the countertop be more flexible with use rather than force that part to always be a drainer, so I guess it wouldn't stop me ordering! Good to know that if I do order from them I will have to watch the template process like a hawk. Thank you!

    Kitchen is looking mint Adam and I agree, customer service is the key to a successful business. No matter how big or small the issue maybe. Just look at how Apple operate. My Mac is 6 years old and I still get free technical help from them. The thing that would have won you over as a walking advert for them, would have been them owning the mistake. Mistakes happen! Many moons ago I paid 1.2k for an oak wardrobe from M&S, they delivered the wrong colour and after literally calling me a fibber. 4 months later and after they sent the correct colour, but the wrong size… I received the correct item and after refunds and compensation, I paid little more the. £200. Got to be honest all the worktop companies we dealt with over the years (carpenter & joiner here for 37yrs) are normally really good at sorting out any issues & take full responsibility for any mistakes. But as with all companies there will always be some crap ones.

    Adam, your property is looking just awesome; you all must be so chuffed. It’s a shame you had the issue with the work surface in as much as you shouldn’t have to argue your point. Someone not so strong minded would have been forced into accepting poor detailing which is just not acceptable. The finished product does look stunning though now it’s installed. Hopefully purple granite watched your vid and have taken steps to improve their customer service and quality control. Fantastic unbiased video as per normal.

    😂 thats a ripper! 'nah, mate you signed off on details that are measured in millimetres so it's on you'. I would've told him to tell his story walking. You're correct though, he was hopeful you were someone he could walk over with bullshit. The amount of fking about in trying to save the piece would've been more costly anyway. Its a 20mm square edge job in quartz, not a bookmatched 40mm+ marble job with slabs that are $10k each. Template bloke should of had +7mm on the back edge corner and 0mm on the opposite corner. Its all on the template guy because the sawyer cant start randomly guessing shit and the fabricators would've put templates on the pieces to check before loading it on a frame to go out.

    do you think the sharp corners on island and laundry shelves will be a injury hazard? i think the person you rung was very unprofessional, he should of said we will come round straight away and investigate were the issue / mistake has happened. it would be obvious instantly and then discuss options and solutions. yes the quality control is a bit slack. mistakes happen, no one is perfect, but handled badly. i would give them another chance if it is isolated and out of norm but if happens again they get no more business.
