Working with editors from anywhere using Blackmagic Cloud Pod // Show and Tell Ep.103

Фильм және анимация

Let's look into the Blackmagic Cloud Pod and Cloud Store ecosystem with a walkthrough of how the syncing process allows editors to work together from anywhere in the world.
We use Dropbox for this one, but Google Drive will work nicely too!

That thing is quite handy tool! Does this also work when the other person is not on your same network but lives somewhere else? I maybe wanna use this for my team where I'm both camera operator & editor. But the other editor lives somewhere else. Also. How do these black magic proxies work? I understand the editor uses the proxies, but how does this edit the main/original files for upload? Or does BlackMagic make the edits automatically then to the original-sized files?

Do you need the same filter on each end? We use Neat and Boris, do I need 2 separate licenses for each? Can renders be done on either end? And then put the master on Dropbox? Or wherever it is going?

No filters used for this one (we each graded separately). And yes, we each have our own licence for DaVinci Resolve. Renders could be done on either end IF we always uploaded the original files - which we actually did in the end - however with the proxy workflow then the renders should only be done on one end.

Damn that's slick transitions and a tight edit, guys. Curious: How did you get the two head convo set up? Zoom on the backend, recording hi-res locally?

Thanks Mads! Yes, we had a zoom call running and recorded locally on each end (You can just about see my HyperDeck recording behind me). From there, we added each clip to the Cloud Pod/Cloud Store setup for the whole edit!

Is the Cloudpod accessible over the network via FTP, like the ATEM? I'm wondering if the Cloudpod had a hard drive attached already and the ATEM was in a different room if you could transfer from the ATEM SSD to the CP without moving the drive around (after the recording was finished).

I believe you can do this. They are both accessible from a host computer so you could indeed drag/drop the footage.

For some reasons, google drive doesn't want to sync with my cloud pod. It says it is synced, but the folder in google drive is empty. Should I switch to Dropbox?

Great Collaboration! Does the 8TB cloud store have the cloud sharing built in? Or does he also need a cloud pod?

Hey Charles, great question! To confirm the Cloud Store has the Google Drive / Dropbox sync built in, the same as a Cloud Pod does :)

Do both editors need to have BM cloud devices?

  • @heretorecord

To make the whole system work as shown, ideally they both would have it. But one could just use Dropbox and be sure to sync all the files locally to their computer.
