I'm UK based, been DJing 10 years and through 3 different DJ Academies and starting out they don't want to know. It takes time. I started university studying for a degree in Music Production & Sound Engineering in April this year. Within the last 3 months, I have been approached by 3 separate DJ Agencys. When the time is right they will come. Great video and hope it's going well for you.

I'm 32, been djn for over 20 years. Gone abroad to Japan mainland and Okinawa. Finally in the process of getting an llc 😅 learned to battle scratch but love taking requests for the crowds! Love rockin the crowds actually 😄 but wanting to leave the 9-5. Book word of mouth and have weddings and other gigs booked like every weekend now but thinking of working for a company/ cruise/ agency sending for abroad. Have no clue what I'm doing but I know my worth and own all my industry standard equipment. Super nervous but glad there's information like this out there. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INFORMATION!! ❤️

Wow! 20 years -that's AWESOME! Thank you for sharing this with us... One thing is for sure if you love to DJ then no matter how old you get, DJ'ing is something you never entirely stop doing. I was just talking to a guy yesterday in his 60s that still gets down on the decks from time to time. Keep doing your thing!! 💕😎

Thank-you, this is such sound advice and some things I had thought about, but not given attention to... so thanks for the reminder too! I've been Djing since a teenager, but only thrown myself into it more over the past 5 years. Music is my true passion and if I can make it more of this, in terms of a side hustle, then even better..... more time doing what I love and to make money too, that would be awesome. EPK and photos next, then agencies, whilst pushing myself, learning learning learning and keep going to youtube too. Thank-you again!

I love amapiano! I play amapiano, qgom, house, afrobeats, and so on. Im in California, and yes there are many DJs playing this music out here... There's not a lot, but they do exist here. 😉

Do you need to sign to a booking agent to work with one? How much do you suggest a DJ should charge for a gig?

These are great questions and I'll probably do a video on it sometime soon. It all depends on the type of agency/company you're with. Certain ones will treat it as if you are an employee or a contract worker so no signing is really needed. Others may require signing especially if you are looked at as an artist DJ on their roster or something. As for price that depends on your skill level and what others are willing to pay for your services. It also depends on what services you're offering (like are you doing a wedding with serval add-ons or are you DJing at a club where you don't have to bring equipment?). For a more reliable DJ, maybe $100 per hour is a good starting point for your mobile events but spinning a club or a wedding or something else may have a different rate that is more suitable. Also factor in any crazy extra expenses you may have to pay but in the end, make the rate you charge make sense.
