Working Through Control Issues

Are you aware that control issues may be hindering your mental health journey? The influence of control becomes place in our lives where we exert extensive effort, pressure, power or force to manipulate a situation or people. We can even have control issues with our own thoughts that send us into pressurized tailspins.
I took quite some time for me to recognize how control issues were impacting my life. In fact, it was probably the last of the seven distortions to sink in for me. So it will take some time for you to recognize where control comes into play.
But when we realize that control issues are a toxic influence in our life, what will we do with it? Will we defend it or begin to work through a healing journey?
In this broadcast, I want to share with you what is underneath our control issues, so we can get some helpful perspective for our healing journey.

Thank you Mark for breaking down what the process looks like to start to overcome. I tend to recognize the problem, but sometimes don’t understand what the solution is and what that look likes. These videos are so helpful as they provide steps to start taking to move in the right direction to allow the freedom Christ died to give. 🙏🏽 God bless you and the family.

Good teaching🙏🥰 I am free in Christ, Controlling people have hurt me so deeply, I will not associate with them anymore, coming out of a relationship that traumatized me, almost killed me, I want nothing to do with them. They don’t seem to suffer as much as the lives they hurt, works of Satan. My advice, leave people alone if you can’t be decent, to communicate, hear, listen, and have empathy. Or go away, world is a happier place without control freaks. Creates narcissist it’s abuse. You have no control, you just hurt your relationships, and chase away genuine people who have no desire to control you, nor do they need this poison in their life.

My mother is other-oriented perfectionist personality type and she is freaking so much controlling like she points out flaws, mistake and imperfections every other hour. She just expects me to be perfect and nothing else. She can't accept me for who I am. Even after becoming doctor she just doesn't let me to be me. I have to dress in certain way, live my life in the way that she thinks is perfect, she doesn't even know anything about my career field but she still wats to control my career choices and how I want to practice later on. Seriously I have to fight every other day with her for her controlling nature, it's driving me crazy. 😣😖😫 March 30, 2024

I bought your OCD healing journey book and can’t wait to dive in!!! My dear mother in law introduced me to your videos and I’m so so thankful, it’s my lifeline for healing that really needs to happen ❤️‍🩹. I’ve been recommending your materials to others dealing with OCD 🙏🏻

Thank you so much for this video! This really helps me understand my co-worker who has control and anxiety issues. Now that I have a better understanding of what she may be going through internally I feel more sympathetic towards her and why she acts the way she does. Her and I have a strained relationship which is really sad because she’s the only other Christian in my office. I’d love to see more videos about control and also how to deal with people with this issue in a loving and biblical way. 🙏 Jen Haley

Thanks a whoooole lot, brother Mark. Recently I was watching a song from the Chosen series that is about Thomas giving up control. I watched it again, again and again. And then you also made this video here, so hmm... I wonder if I have a lot of control issues also. It is not good really. you can get into this false dichtomy: either you control stuff too much in your life so you get a lot of anxiety or then you think if I let go then chaos comes in and a lot of problems - lol. When in God is true freedom found as we let go. It is much easier for me to say this... so if you could say a prayer for me to realize in actions how to really let go of these control issues and not just talk about it I would appreciate that :)

I do all of the list of what I need to “let go”…and have been working on them in therapy. As a child I walked on egg shells when I was in the presence of my dad. Felt uneasy just sitting at the dinner table . Even if you weren’t fearing one of his blow ups, he just made us feel uncomfortable. When he’d leave to work or even just leave the room, your body went into relief mode. When he walked in, we’d stiffen. He was an alcoholic with many abusive words to throw out and some physical abuse. Been working on these issues my whole adult life. I became a controlling parent. Raised my two kids in the church, but ended up putting them on guilt trips like my father did me. My son estranged from me seven years ago. Mark, do you ever touch on the results of OCD when it’s loss of adult children? Would love to hear you speak on this epidemic.

@@melissadejesus4958 thank you so much Melissa. I saw it today. I started to cry when Mark read my comment. He read me exactly. He knew exactly my issues. He really gets it. It’s all very hard though and sometimes I just feel I will never get better. I don’t really know what “normal” life feels like. But I will keep watching.
