WORKED EXAMPLE - AAMC MCAT BIOCHEM PASSAGE

This video shows the application of the strategy talked about in the video about how I approached the MCAT Bio / Biochem section. That video is linked in the description. The passage is from the AAMC Sample Test Biochemistry and Biological Sciences Section.

    Tried it before you went through it myself and the diagram really helped!! I tend to refer back to the passage and it makes me waste time. Awesome breakdown! Super helpful :)

    stellar breakdown of the passage! I've been struggling with info dense passages like these, so I will def try out your method. thanks!

    Great video brother, liked it. I used to struggle with the bioc passages too, but I started doing something similar where I briefly jot down what each named protein or enzyme does, and it saved a lot of mental effort in comprehension. Now the method of diagrams just made it more complete, cant wait to practice with it.

    Thank you so much this video is great! I've been doing a lot of bio/biochem passages from the AAMC packs but I noticed that they don't have this kinds of intense passages (they are usually more straight forward and easier). Do you know where I might be able to find passages like the one you had here?

    The Question Packs are made for the older MCAT (pre-2015?). The Section Banks are made for the newer MCAT which is passage-based and will be more representative of the exam. So, I recommend practicing with Section Banks and the Practice Tests!

    Thank you so much for the video! Your breakdown of the passage made the whole thing look easy. I was wondering if you'd be able to post a video about how you go over practice exams or whats the most efficient way to review them. PS: Already subscribed and looking forward to more content :)

    Thanks for the video. Will we be able to draw diagrams like this during the MCAT on the computer screen or will we have to draw this on the scratch piece of paper the test administrators provide us?

    You'll be given a scratchpad with a marker that is non-erasable. Here is something that explains it more: www.prepscholar.com/gmat/blog/gmat-scratch-paper/

    Interesting method. What do you think about just drawing one big picture connecting all the dots (pretty much adding to a single diagram as you go)?

  • @UjwalsMe

    @UjwalsMe

    Hey! That would work, but I chose this because each diagram roughly corresponds to each paragraph. So let's say I for some reason need more information while answering questions, I can now go back to the respective paragraph because the diagrams are labelled. I hope that helps!

    Do u recommend only doing this for the convoluted passages where there’s a lot of things to keep track of? I feel like this sucks up a lot of time to be doing on regular bio passages where you don’t have to keep track of so much info

  • @UjwalsMe

    I found that this strategy helps save time in the long-run as you get faster through practice and I found that I would go through the section with some time to spare at the end. Of course, if it seems to suck up a lot of time, you could save this for a few passages and go through the rest normally. Hope that helps!

    @@UjwalsMe Also I think by writing things down it helps keep the reader actively engaged and avoid passive reading perhaps?
