People are totally unaware of one of the greatest trumpet players ever to grace this planet .

He was a master craftsman, played with him once, it was quite an experience, never to be forgotten.
imagine playing jazz piano all these years and never really checking out the underrated Stanley Cowell. Beautiful playing by all
Terri Lynne kicking up good dust back there. Stanley Cowell and David Williams got some tight communication going on.
people take jazz for granted
Cowell passed away december 17 2020, from cancer. Fantastic with Gary Bartz, Another Earth. Harold Land and Bobby Hucherson another great group.

Hard to believe that Woody Herman Shaw had less than two years to live, from this concert, where he is in full great form and performance.
Terri Lyne Carrington queen
wonderful group.. woody , stanley.... what else?
Amazing band. There are not enough recordings of Woody playing plain straight ahead jazz. Thank you.

GLad you enjoyed it.
Woody in the man💯🎼🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🔥💯
GENIUS WOODY......GREATEST!!!!
Great Rhythm section 💯🔥🥁🎹🎺
Woody - Gotta love it! There's an album out there called 'Setting Standards" Where Woody plays this, What's New, Spiderman blues - really great playing (different Rhythm sec though)
Awesome swinging jazz.
Terri-Lynn Carrington super young there, sounding amazing. What a group
Thanks for the video!!
Woodys is on fire as usual !!!! LMAO at his two step dance move though, he looked like he had to urinate, and was trying to hold it.

His dance is just meditative motion. Trading 4s so inspiring!!!
Thanks for this amazing post Steve, can't watch Woody too long as a horn player, so good it gets depressing!
just perfect trio ... great double bass
Thanks for posting ❤❤
Total gem . Thanks .
Shit! It’s so swinging/groovy Folks 👍🎼
It seems woody's solos had been previously written!! Fantastic!!!
Bass and drums are laying it down!
The best 4!
David Williams king
Amazing. Thanks for posting this gem!
thankssss very muchhhh
Brill. Thanks for posting this
terri lyne and david williams sound so good back there
It is brilliant, now or then. Well done! I would have sworn you blended a board mix recording with the video. It proves Tech wasn't crap then, and that you are a hell of a cameraman.
No one mentioned Woody's cigarette stuck in his third valve slide...haha

Really? You uploaded something you recorded in 85. Thank you sir for sharing this with us. Truly appreciated!
Man, this band is great! Thanks for the up op!
Thanks... It was simple. Sit in the first row. Aim the camera (with camera mic) at the stage and try to avoid the cigar smoke from the guy sitting next to me. People who think tech was crap until digital technology are mistaken.
💙😃
So cool ;)
That’s about as good as anyone has played that piece of tubing!
Very witty Stanley Cowell solo full of quirky quotes of pop standards. Woody Shaw: how did he think so fast? Just fabulous playing. Is that a cornet?

Getting the fingers, the chops and the brain to work together is no easy job. It's a trumpet, not a cornet.
Beautiful video and sound. I can hear Woody snapping his fingers so clearly. How did you do this, stinging?
You might be right, my friend.

Steve Provizer thanks. Just what I thought. He learn a lot of his harmonic concepts from Woody.
