Thx a lot! ∟∪⊂∀ ˜_˜
The undisputed king of modern jazz .There will never be another Woody Shaw . I was priviledged to know him and studied with him and he was a very caring and beautiful person who had a very tragic ending .God bless the music and soul of Mr. Woody Shaw .

I actually agree with you but we might be the only two people, ok WS3, so that's 3 of us.
I saw this band one Thursday evening at Ronnie Scott's. It was one of those unforgettable moments apart from Woody's great horn playing, Tony on drums blew my mind. Great musical experience!!!
Steve Turre is definitely among the unsung heroes in the jazz pantheon. That Woody chose him instead of a tenor sax player makes for a fascinating sonic pallette.
Woody Shaw was an amazing trumpet player who never really got his proper props. The media never really sat down to listen, all they always grab for the newest wonder on the horizon. This is a great concert with Steve Turre on trombone. All the soloist are great.

You're talking about Wynton without mentioning him directly. I get it.

@@kalzone60 And if he is talking about Wynton,...so what? Wynton has never been this original or this much of a badass. Maybe he's right.
Woody was a monster with a very unique and beautiful harmonic approach. Played with fire and joy. RIP
I grew up with the drummer Tony Reedus RIP my friend

I was there. Also at the "Maiden Voyage" (on Wilshire near MacArthur park). at about the same time wih the same lineup.
I saw Woody Shaw in Cairo back in 83/84 at the AUC ( American University Cairo) auditorium. I was just discovering jazz and he was part of US State Dept's cultural exchange. I wish I could find out more about that concert.
Thanks so much for posting this!! Great show and Woody is definitely one of my favorites

Mulgrew Miller is so much a better pianist than Onaje Allan Gumbs. I wish he'd recorded this tune in the studio with Mulgrew.

Real jazz musicians are usually happy to play ANYWHERE, I guess most real musicians are like that regardless of the style of music. The music is the thing for them, and hopefully for us. Fuck the venue!

Sorry but I can't imagine Miles Davis being happy to play anywhere. His attitude was "you people don't deserve me but I'll play your gig. Just don't ask me to smile."
