WoodWorking: Building my Pet Raccoon a Running Wheel!

It took me 3 days to construct and build this DIY running wheel for my pet raccoon. In the end I let all my animals try it out! Be sure to stay to the end to see all of ferret and hedgehog cuteness!
This will allow Tito The Raccoon to run and burn off any excess energy he might have throughout the day. Its important for raccoons to have plenty of exercise to maintain a healthy weight and to stay in shape!
The materials I used are 1 sheet of 3/4s inch plywood, (2) 2 x 4s, 2 wheels, 1 sheet of really thin plywood (not sure of dimensions), and a lot of screws and bolts!

You should add traction tape over the seams, it would probably make it safer and easier to run on.

@@TitoTheRaccoon Really nice job!! Carpet would be an excellent addition. Adds traction, protects little toes from slivers and from getting caught in the wood seams.

You take such good care of your animals. Diet, exercise, stimuli, enrichment. You devote a lot of time to them and it shows. Tito is in better shape than any captive racoon that I have ever seen. Normally, in human care, they are almost exclusively, obese.

I had a pet raccoon over the summer! It was the most fun I ever had! My dad cuts trees for a business and he found the raccoon so we kept it as a pet and it was worth it! They are very nice creatures when they are raised from when they are little.

I loved this video. I’m not much of a handyman but I’d love to learn how to build some stuff on my own and watching you make this helped me learn how to make a running wheel! Great video :)

Back when my kids where young we had mice and hamsters. Those little shits ran on their wheels relentlessly to the point the noise would drive you nuts. Let us know how that all works out. By the way, awesome project though. If it ends up driving you nuts try a tread mill. you can usually fine them at a yard sale pretty cheap. they also give you control when they run and mostly when they don't. Love your videos. you kids are great.

Haha the hedgehog has a plastic wheel that squeaks like crazy. I know the feeling 😂. They are all in there own room so we don’t hear too much of it luckily.

It simply amazes me how smart the raccoon is. Once he notices it moves a little, he went on the bed and purposely tried to spin it to get a better understanding of the way it moves. Wow

That's super neat. I agree with putting a strip of carpet down. It would keep them from hitting any of the seams too.

That Hedgehog is so cute!! If I had one I would name it Sonic.
As I watched this, I imagined Tito sitting in a lounge chair, eating from a bag of popcorn, watching the project unfold.
Smart, Smart Tito understands the principle of energy conservation. If you can walk, why run? If you can stand, why walk? If you can sit, why stand? And if I can get a pecan laying on my back why in the world would I run in this roundie round wheel??? Go Tito Go!!
