Woodturning - There's Hidden Magic in this Wood!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today I turn a magic wand in the workshop, let me know if this is the sort of thing you like and I can make more! I was inspired by the many wands in Harry Potter, and I've merged a few designs into one for this.
I use a piece of Yew and a tiny piece of Pau Rosa for the heart of the wand.

Disclaimer:
My videos are for entertainment purposes only. Some of my techniques might not be the "best" or safest, so when using any tool or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines first.
And Yes, I'm aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practice. The gloves I wear are tight-fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT copy my actions if you feel unsafe doing so.

Knew a guy that made wands, not quite as nice as this, but pretty good. One day, a customer stuck one where the magic is, and the tip broke off, and stayed there. Then the person's lawyer wrote him a letter and said he didn't exclude certain uses of the wand, so he wanted compensation. Just make sure in the Book Of Magick that you include with the wands, a list of things you should NOT do with the Stick Of Prick.

I watched the whole video without looking at the description and I couldn't figure out what it was even though it was pretty cool. Nice job on the magic wand 😊.

I had a pair of latex gloves get ripped off by my lathe and I was EXTREMELY lucky they were just latex gloves that could rip off. Please let the gloves go when turning. Awesome work!!!

It’s the first thing I ever made on my first go with no experience. I broke my daughters wand that I had bought her so promised to make one for her…years later I made good on the promise. She was thrilled (and very patient) Made a few now myself.👍

Nice work! I was going back and forth between worrying you would break it and what are you doing with your hand on the spinning piece of wood? I love what you came up with. Specially the tiny figure in the heart. I say make more of these! They would probably sell well there in the UK. I’ve made three wands out of clay but they are not as impressive as yours is.

Friend, please lose those gloves as fast as you can. I've seen numerous industrial accidents that were caused by a glove gaining traction on a rotating shaft. You will end up with an involuntary grip on the shaft and the inertia of the machine will pull a finger OFF! With that tool rest right there, the possibilities are even worse. Also, maybe rethink spraying lacquer into your dust collector? At best, it's making a mess of your equipment. At worst, it's combustible and collectors are notorious generators of static.
