Australian Red Mallee Burl with transparent blue resin bowl. To be honest the resin for this bowl was supposed to be green. I mixed a light and a dark green to try and make an emerald green. I don’t know what happened, but the resin has turned out blue, very blue in fact. It reminds me of an aerial picture of an island surrounded by the blue ocean. Hence the name of the bowl. Red Mallee Burl is one of my favourite timbers to use, whether it be for pens, bowls or any number of other things. It has a great colour and the grain structure is always unusual.
This bowl is 18cm in diameter and 5cm tall. I got the wood from popsshed.com.au , go and check out their range of timber.

The bowl has been finished with Ubeaut Polishes Shellawax.
I use a WL-46A lathe from Hare and Forbes Machinery House along with a variety of chisels from different manufacturers.
