Manzanita grows wild all over Northern California, it's one of the hardest bushes / trees to pull out of the ground that anyone has ever seen. My father used a 200 ton excavator and almost pulled the excavator over while trying to remove a root from one.

When I saw it was Manzanita, i raised my eyebrows, because i know how tough that stuff is!

That is probably the most beautiful woodturning piece I have ever seen. Stunning work.

The best thing is, that it's unique. The design will never be the same if another was made. Beautiful work of art.

I firmly believe that you are half correct. David did a great job with this piece, better than anything that I could hope to do, but I don't believe that there is only ONE "right person" for that root burl. I think that any talented artisan/craftsman who owned that root burl would be the "right person" and would bring out their own unique vision of beauty from it. Let's say the multiverse is real and infinite. If that root was handed to a different artisan/craftsman in each universe, or even if it was handed to the David of each universe, a different yet beautiful piece will be produced in each case. That's one of the great things about creativity... it has NO LIMITS. If David was handed an identical root burl I doubt that he would want to create a second urn/vase that mirrored what he had already created. Where would the fun be in that? Anyway, I don't know much, but I know that have never wanted to duplicate something that I have already created. Great job David.

I jsut told my boyfriend out loud (who sent me this video bc he knows im into these) "this is hitting all the right spots, it has glitter, it has cools, it has warms, it has space, but it also has earth because of the wood, and it SHINES", congrats!

Wow! I am so impressed. I love turned burl but had no idea where you where going with it right up until the end. Spectacular.

I just dug out a root for this purpose this morning. Probably sit on it for a year. I haven't even started turning yet. I'm just amazed at this popping up on my feed when I come back inside to take a break.

I would not have believed that georgeous vase was hidden inside that disaster of a root cluster had I not just seen your video! The texture, patterning Ang grain of the wood is marvelous and the resin sets it off beautifully! The last thing I turned on a lathe was in the early 60's in middle school woodworking class!

I'm about 5 seconds from finding this guy, just to give him a giant piece of wood and ask him can he carve me something cool. Like a globe, bowl, idk. This guy is great!

I never thought that woodturning would be anything interesting. Don't knock it til you try it. Dude, you are an artisan sir. Much respect. You have earned my sub. Questions, these pieces of art for sale? This vase looked exquisite. You do commissions? Say purple instead of black (my wife)? Seriously. Been married 10 years, looking for original and exotic gifts. Rather support you than some megs corp.

Love the finished result, the resin in the end gives it a very striking look in combination with the wood. From a casual glance it's reminiscent of classical greek pottery. Very good result.

The fact that we didn’t know exactly how it will turn out is the most fascinating part.

I needed this tonight. In a crazy way It's a beautiful way to end a night when I have been mourning my sister who was killed last year. To see that root go from It's natural state, ripped out of the ground, then cut, turned, poured over, cut some more, shaped, and polished feels a lot like my heart right now. The process so painful, but so carefully watched by the Creator. He knows what the end result will be from the very beginning; something more beautiful and lasting than what you started with. Thank you for this. I can sleep now. 🤍

4:17 that is exactly what I was getting anxiety about watching this. I've worked with mills and lathes with all types of metal so I was freaking out at some of the things you did lol but I had to keep telling myself that epoxy and wood are probably way more forgiving than steel. I've always wanted to turn wood though

I too had anxiety. I thought this was a how "not to do" wood turning video because of the distance from the work and letting all the epoxy shaving get balled up. I'm sorry but he is lucky he didn't catch the inside of that thing and snap his wrist off. Then he buffed out the shine at the end?

@@AkshaySharma-ut6rv yup. Saw a video of a guy who got too close and it barely caught the tip of his sleeve and within half a second his shoulder was being pulled with the part. Luckily the part was long and also not secured properly because instead of being rigid and ripping his arm off it came loose and someone had been close by to quickly pull him away. And only a few months ago at my work this girl's shirt was ripped clean off by a lathe. Only reason she didn't go with is because someone was also with her to pull her away. That's why I had so much anxiety with this video lol
