This piece a jewel of nastiness every step of the way. Given how rotten the burl was, it required thin epoxy with an extended curing time in order to fill all of the gaps and saturate the wood. However, the longer the curing process, the greater the risk of losing color separation in the resin. I found this out the hard way after hoping for more distinct purples and golds in this one. The inside of the vase is not spectacular and rather rough, but it was necessary to leave some wall thickness given the fragility of the wood. I expect this piece is fairly sturdy, given all the stabilization that it needed. Anyway, life is a learning process, and nothing is perfect. But this piece will hopefully find a comfy spot in someone's home.

I did two electives of woodworking in high school, never followed through, my career went elsewhere. I have very fond memories of my lathe work. And I have a beautiful maple side table next to me as I speak, which I hand made with the lathe, routers, band and coping saws when I was 11 years old. I am 52 now. Superb piece of wood and turning here. Congratulations..

Extraordinary. Also I found the sound of the tools without music very tranquilizing.
My 4 year old daughter just watched your whole video. She was mesmerised. :)
Unbelievable gorgeous!
Absolutely love that he doesn't edit the videos to be error free! That kind of turning is not for the faint hearted...
You surely do know how to find the beauty in nature. I always feel like I’m looking at galaxies, or the earth’s core or something when I see the finished piece. I can’t praise you enough!!
Finally, the algorithm is giving me content relevant to my interests! The vase came out splendid!
Watching a skilled craftsman create a work of art out of chaos is a therapeutic balm for troubled times.
Absolutely Beautiful ❤️ 😍
I always enjoy watching how burls turn out. I miss being able to do turnings. Unfortunately being disabled your income is limited and had to sell all my equipment just to keep the utilities on and food in my daughter's stomach. It was always very very relaxing and helped with keeping the depression away from not being able to work. At least I can still watch others beautiful works of art.

Wow this is absolutely BEAUTIFUL.
Oh my, this is something else! The bits of green are superb too!
Love watching you work a piece into a thing of beauty.
Absolutely beautiful!! 💜💜💜💜
Without the proper knowledge and training wood turning can be extremely dangerous. It is a beautiful art, craft, skill. I love watching the piece reveal itself.😍
This is like fine ancient art. A Japanese giant oyster jewel. It feels like a journey even just by looking it from a screen. Extremely rare content.
I find it mesmerising watching the beauty emerge from the raw material. Awesome.
An elegant combination of natural and man-made materials. Congratulations!
It looks like an old map. So pretty.
Very beautiful and unique.
You are a true artist, I could only ever wish to have your level of talent.
Really beautiful, elegant and balanced. Well done
I watch a lot of woodturners & enjoy the work of all of them but there are only a handful that can make woodturning look as easy & relaxed as you do David. I even like your use of resin unlike some who overuse it to avoid some of the extreme challenges that some pieces of wood present. This is such a delightful piece to add to all of your other delightful pieces. You are a great role model for future woodturners as they develop. Congratulations, Don from South Aust.
Beautiful piece. About ten years ago, I dug a basketball sized cherry root burl out of a neighbor's yard, when they had their cherry tree cut down. I had sealed it, and was waiting patiently for it to dry, and cure properly before working it. I left the area for a while, and my uncle went by the house to check on things, and saw this piece of wood, thought it would make a long burning piece of fire wood, and burned it. It was such a heart breaker. It was cool to see someone make something similar, and see it come to fruition. Makes it not quite as bad. Thanks
Cheers from Maryland! I find these videos so relaxing, it’s incredible the vases you can create from these things
Wow! what a stunning work of Art David. I am not a 'huge' fan of resin but when used wisely, as you have done here, it can have some stunning results as here with this beautiful Cherry Burl. It really is a beautiful piece with a stunning finish to it. Cheers, Don from South Aust.
OMG! I am fascinated with this beautiful work you do! Amazing!

The piano music at the end just made the vase more mysterious and beautiful.

So much to appreciate in this: How an injury to a tree literally is turned to beauty. How technology meets nature to create something out of this world, The art in the cinematography. The effort and patience in the journey , And the sheer satisfaction of seeing the end result. So good!🤗
Your videos hypnotize me, and your work is beautiful. Making something this lovely out of something most people would throw in the burn pile is true craftsmanship.

THANK YOU for this burl vase project. It came out real nice! My Dad gave me a small wood-lathe, that he got, trading. He gave me the fundamentals plus he showed me how to sharpen the tools, when I was about 9 years old and I made some nice stuff over the years. I like to watch it done. I watch a variety of woodturners, and I enjoy them all - many, because I like the people as much as the woodturning. With you, however, it's different. Your videos are an art form unto themselves, and your creations are often breathtakingly beautiful and unusual. It is so good to have you creating, once again. I hope and pray your recovery has been complete. May God bless you and yours. You certainly bless me, by allowing me this little "window on your world."

So incredible. You've got a great talent and your choice in epoxy colors compliments the wood so well. I know of a tree in northern Maine that is burl upon burl upon burl upon hundreds of burls. It's so ugly, it's the most beautiful tree I've ever known. It's in the middle of the forest where hardly an eye has ever beheld it. Thanks for posting your workmanship.

OMG! I was introduced to wood turning in high-school and as much as I loved it I decided to make the move to the Infantry with the Army. I truly did Love woodworking. It was something I was actually good at. Being from a very small town in Western Montana and from a broken low income family that said a lot, it was the first thing I was truly good at and enjoyed. As I turned out I was good at a few more things gs once I got in the Army. I was never close to what I see on here. The Beautiful work and the Gorgeous pieces are incredible. Amazing. So beautiful. 👍🏻
I really appreciate people who take nothing and "turn" it into something, that takes talent and skill....the burl and the resin each have their own unique patterning, you did a fantastic job bringing that out, it reminds me of Mexican crazy lace agate, one of my favorite lapidary stones....
A vase, made of wood & glaze. *BEAUTIFUL* 😍
My Grandfather loved working with birds-eye maple. I do believe he would have approved of this work of yours. Myself, I'm amazed!
You have such an amazing talent. What a beautiful piece! Thank you!
I don’t do wood turning but I carnt stop watching
I love that even you, watched a lot of your videos, will actually show when you make a mistake (by the log falling off). Shows true character and respect towards your viewers of your channel. We are all human and make errors in life. What you create is a BEAUTIFUL piece of art in every way. Your patience and love for what you do show that. Never stop what you are doing as it would be a crime to humanity to lose such an artist...
I found this really calming. My cat, on the other hand, was very excited, especially when the strings of resin were coming off!
That takes so much talent. It is so amazing
