Woodturning - The Purple Haze
In this video I take a piece of Salmon Gum Burl and cast it in resin to turn a hybrid disc then use the off cut to make a light base ..

I always wondered what it looked like while it was curing in the pot and how the resin came out with no bubbles. My nerdy curiosity has been satisfied.

What you saw i "think" was a few cycles of creating a vacuum so that when it released it really got into that wood. Then , while it wasn't directly shown, i assume he reversed the flow and put it under pressure to cure. It was glassy at the end and that's tough to get just with a vacuum.
Probably my favorite thing you have produced. Bad ass. And clever using the off cut. This is definitely an application where the colored resin is a co-star. Normally (being a wood lover) I feel the artificial colors detract from the unique beauty of the wood. Not with this piece. Well done sir.
Jimi Hendrix would be proud! Purple Haze indeed! Looks like another planet and love, love, love the purple color.
Beautiful. My late wife, Kim, would have loved that. Purple was her favourite colour.

Hey Andy, this piece totally demonstrates simplicity can be the key to success. Once again your attention to detail and imagination shines through. Just beautiful.

I watched this with my 4 year old son! He was mesmerized by the whole process. As was I. Watching you work is possibly the most wholesome experience on KZread! Much love from India from your youngest fan!
When your little girl asks for a purple nightlight... Andy gets "Dad of the year" award. This may not be the case, but it makes me happy to think so... *CHEERS.*

I love this channel. Instant inspiration when I can't think of anything new. I'd never copy anything but this channel is great for getting my mind moving
Is it just me or do you get satisfied watching him put the substance onto the object to make it shine. (Assuming it is alcohol of some sort)
I see fugo quit cuz he wants a woodturning job.
Who knew an insect infested piece of wood could become such a thing of beauty..you never disappoint...beautiful
Enjoy all of your projects Andy. Inspiring is an understatement! Keep the great work flowing.
Watching you carve out chunks of wood into such masterpieces makes my day. Every video of yours is so enthralling to watch. Lots of Love❤
I cannot wait for your store to open up again online! This is my favourite one so far. Love your videos!!
Purple haze , but all i see is stone free shooting out strings of epoxy Love ur work btw
Purple is my favorite colour. So thank you very much for making this piece with purple. So having lights under it made it even more beautiful.
Incredible, Andy... again. Every time I watch your videos, I'm amazed at what you can visualize the beauty you can produce from a chunk of wood. Simply amazing. Thank you.
Watching you work is such a stress reliever. THIS is what kids should learn today, real trade craft. Leave the other crap out.

A wood butcher friend once told me the first woodworking tools he learned to use were a broom and a vacuum. I can see why after viewing you videos. Great piece, BTW. It was sort of like watching a Tarantino movie: I was not always sure where we were going or exactly how we got there, but I was very satisfied at the end.

i've been watching half part of your work since ... you definitively know how to create a real atmosphere through a piece of wood !! very astonishing !! thanks for the share ;)
Right when i saw those LEDs i was like, “aw this is going to be cool!”
When you started to cut the outline for the light I was like ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! Somehow made something incredible even more incredible 👍👍👍
That's one nice light. It looks like your under water in a cave, I didn't expect a light i expected a bowl so a suprise for me , a pretty end result
Your wife and kids must be so proud because of your creativeness and awesome imagination.
That is the prettiest piece I have seen. Absolutely stunning and appropriately named.
All I heard whilst watching this was "smooooooooke on the waaaaaater". Great work Andy!
I love purple anyway, and when the wood was placed over the light, with the resin at the top, it looked like an underwater scene, with the wood looking like coral. I love it! 😍
You made. An alien landscape from what looked like a rotten piece of wood. I think i could look at it for hours and not get bored. Wonderful art.
Absolutely amazing! Thank you for sharing this with us!
I'm just randomly scrolling through videos, I see this, i watch, I like, I subscribe
I love how when you use the resin-type-stuff(?) It looks like Spider-Man is just have a bad time controlling his web shooters.
WOW! Absolutely gorgeous! Nice job as always, Andy.
What can I say? simply impressive, original, beautiful lamp.Great work.
It always gets me whenever there is just strings of resin EVERYWHERE and he keeps going
HA! As soon as I saw you cut this on the bandsaw, Andy, I knew you would be using the cutoff in the final piece. But, I didn't know you had technology in mind and I didn't know it would be so beautiful! It's absolutely perfect! Whenever people suggest to me that I should be doing this kind of thing, I always refer them to your channel. Why would I ever try to mess with the master? Very well done, I love it! Phil

Incredible. Wish I had the equipment to do all that or that I knew someone who could learn me this craft. Always had a love for woodworking 👍
You make just the most beautiful art. No matter how you put the the circle on the stand it looked different and singularly unique each way.
That's nice. Really turned out beautiful, love the color you chose.
A beautiful work of art again by Andy. Love the Purple Haze with the LED lighting! Not sure why I didn't get KZread notification when this was posted. Just now seeing it.
I am glad you showed inside the pot ... wondering what goes on in there ... and this is AMAZING!!!!!!!!! Love it !!
Here comes you again. Excellent and marvelously work well done. Thank you for sharing.
I swear to you dude, I heard Jimi Hendrix, sitting up there in the big skye, playing Purple Haze, all the way through this video! Spooky! lol And I'm sure he would've loved this project. Really beautiful.

Andy I love your pieces that use light as an element to your art. It only makes sense as you can high light a focal point in a piece or just add a new way to look at it. Keep doing what you do as I enjoy watching you do it😎✌️

So beautiful. He moves his hands so quickly!
The only thing that would have made this any cooler was if there were a small motor mechanism to slowly rotate the disc while lit up.
That's kinda creepy looking but in a really good way. I like it.
Such beautiful work! Wish I lived closer and could afford to buy things from you. Would love to have something like this to display. So much time and talent.
