Woodturning: The Manzanita Roast!
Ойын-сауық
This nasty piece of Manzanita burl has been glaring at me from the shelf for the past 2 years or so, and after a hiatus away from the lathe (getting married), I finally did something with it. I hope you enjoy! Make sure to watch through to the end for a special set of glamour shots!

Wow, I was wondering what this work would turn into the entire time and I never would have guessed it even though the title gives it away so clearly. This is such a phenomenal fusion of functionality, craftsmanship and aestheticism! Love it!
I love that you left that almost primordial edge on there. So often in woodturning videos, I see artists take these gorgeous, distinctive chunks of wood and lathe away all the most interesting bits. The end result is always beautiful, but so often I find myself going, "oh, but if they could've saved a hint of that one feature..." and here you have. Bravo!
The best manzanita turning I've ever seen! That stuff is so hard it really puts the cutters through their paces.

As someone who routinely machines metal including half hard steels, wood, hard, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 What you really mean is you got the wrong grade of (cheap) expensive tools!
If there is anybody on KZread that is an artist it is you. I don’t know where you come up with all of these great ideas. Now me and other people want a coffee grinder just like yours. GREAT job!
Congratulations!! We don't care what you post we love it.

Aw thanks Jennifer! I appreciate that!
I was amazed at the amount of wood stabiliser used on this piece. At one point I did not see how you would be able to get the wood to a point where you could apply a finish. I should never doubt your ability to get a polished result. An absolutely stunning piece of functional Art my friend. Cheers, Don from South Aust.
I have seen Manzanita turned twice before. It has very beautiful grain and color. I am awed by your talent and vision. Live edge pieces are my favorite!

While I worried during turning about what the final result would be, it was so functional and beautiful. I have to comment on the photography throughout. It was absolutely magnificent. So well shot and edited. Congratulations. Worthy of some sort of award.
I've such a deep new respect. I've always loved these never trialing appreciating or knowing what goes into them. I only love them more. I hope one day I can afford one. What vision. From one unique craftsman to another, handmade is best! Thanks for sharing!
Hardcore coffee enthusiast here. The fact that you brew your coffee in a Chemex only further proves you are a man of refined taste.
Fantastic! Never would have guessed beautiful workmanship 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Wow David! What a gorgeous piece and how incredibly ingenious. It’s mesmerizing to watch the transformation.
Indeed a stunning piece of art and practical to boot. A very elegant piece of sculpture that should last a few more years than it took to make, including wood storage.

Art pure. And it makes sens. Idea and realisation are the best I ever saw coming from a wood turner.Go on.
Very interesting turning. You did a great job with the punkiness of this wood. The whole thing came out great. BTW, you did a fabulous job of keeping the final result a secret. I never would have guessed until you started pouring the beans in. Well done. 👍

I don't know why, but looking at this beautiful piece reminded me of an old world map. ❤
Amazing. Who knew that a wood turning video could have plot twists and a surprise ending.
That..... was bloody amazing to watch!!! When you wax and reveal the unique beauty of the wood is my favorite part. I love the utility of this piece of art I would be tempted to put it under glass just to look at!!

By far, THE most original idea I've seen in woodturning to date. For most of the video, I was trying to decide what you were attempting to create. Then, I saw two bowls. Then, I saw one bowl being used as a lid for the other. Then... you punched a hole right through the top bowl. 😮 Was that a mistake? Did he screw it up? How's he going to repair that huge hole? This was an amazing creation. I loved every minute of it. The finished product....I never had a clue. I never would have guessed coffee grinder. Absolutely beautiful piece and a truly amazing concept in design. Beautifully done! 👍👏

I think its so amazing that such beautiful objects can be made out of just wood (and sometimes resin). So mesmerizing to watch!
Now THAT is a coffee grinder! Leaving the edges close to natural makes it look almost baroque! WOW!
It's always an EVENT when David Adamsen posts a new video! I love Manzanita trees, they grow all along the coastline around here in the PNW. Love this one!

Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you Crete this gorgeous and stunning coffee grinder, from that piece of wood. Absolutely incredible and awesome too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
Very nice result from a punky piece of manzanita, held together in the end by CA glue and a lot of work! I've been there, waiting for the thing to crumble into dust or fly apart.
Beautiful work. It reminds Brazil in the region that produces the most the best coffee in the world. Minas Gerais, with its aromas, the Serra da Canastra cheese. Your coffee mill looks wonderful on my grandfather's farm. Beautiful work that brings us wonderful memories. Congratulations!
WOW! You deserve a million subs, fantastic video all around

I’m enjoying your videos a lot! Could you maybe do an educational one where you show all the tools and machines that you use, what they are for and maybe a little on how to use them? I love learning new things and I bet I’m not the only one here that would like to know more. Or maybe you could just add some captions on what you’re doing? You are very talented and I love seeing you create these works of art!
Congrats on getting married!! (A while ago now, but it's still exciting!) I've been loving your videos lately. You're so skilled. I hope you have a peaceful and pleasant life, while and outside of this incredible art you're so masterful at creating. ❤️
That is the prettiest coffee mill I have set my eyes on!
Absolutely brilliant! And all because you just wanted a cup of fresh ground, fresh brewed coffee! An absolutely beautiful piece of work. But please let us know that no known roasts were harmed in the making of this piece of beautiful and functional wood!
I love these videos. They show a different form of art. Plus I get to learn about certain types of wood species I've never heard of before. David Adamsen, you were born with a great gift from God with those hands of yours.

Fantastic piece, I had no idea what you were doing (especially since I am not a coffee drinker) and it is gorgeous and functional!! Nice new angles and editing on the woodturning shots, I wasn't that interested in the coffee brewing shots myself. And, I usually watch woodturning videos with the sound off, it's an auditory break for me. **Do you have a good place for me to learn about woods, glues, and finishes? I just want to learn for fun, I won't plan on getting a workshop. THANKS
