For me, it has taken a while to bring my work to the right level and to learn who my customers are. It is rewarding to have folks pick up a $250 or $300 bowl and be happy to pay for it. Not everyone is a $250 customer, but that's just fine. Developing a customer base and a reputation takes time and work. When people ask me "how long does it take to make that bowl", I ask if they want me to start with the process of harvesting the tree - it usually puts things into perspective. Thanks for taking the time to produce these videos - there's so much to learn.

Regarding prices on your work, as long as you are selling them, the only concern is are you not putting enough value on them. A neighbor of mine does ceramic restoration (Lakeside Pottery) and he told me once that they were so inundated with work that they couldn't keep up with it. So, he more than doubled their prices and still the work came in that they were more than busy.

Although maybe a little morbid, your work with the Designer Epooxy is so stunning that it makes me want to buy a custom urns from you for my husband and I and just put them up for when we pass this earth, so my kids will have them for our final resting place. We are only 46 and 48, so maybe a little premature, but you never know! Absolutely gorgeous work.

I make purses, travel bags, and backpacks. A lot of people do not understand the time and material cost that goes into handcrafted one of a kind items. They see mass produced and cheaply made goods in the stores at low prices and think my price is way to high. I highly value my customers who do appreciate a well made custom handbag and the effort and skill I put into making it. Your urn is gorgeous.

Amazing work and use of an equally amazing burl! The Designer Epoxy appears to be very nice to work with. I really like the hint of red in the burl also.
ART! So elegant. Boxelder is my favorite of the wood you work with. The combo of the black with the gold is elegant. I wonder if one day you will branch out into complementary colors in addition to the contrasting colors. I imagine an amber colored resin would be gorgeous with this wood, being a sort of extension of it rather than bounding it, if that's clear. Anyway, really lovely urn. Thanks and Congratulations.

This one was super informative - I’d no idea what the CODB of a career like this would be. Photography is another undervalued vocation. People don’t realise how much goes into what we do, they just see ‘art’. They do not always see craft. Excellent work, as always!

Oh this one is very elegant! The black resin goes well with the figuring in the wood. You know, $400 is very much a reasonable price for what you make. It's art that takes a lot of time and uses expensive materials, and they're heirloom pieces that should easily be around for a hundred years.

I love your urns, despite the sad event that causes people to buy them. I also get excited when I find you using box elder burl, as it's my favorite. The burl clusters add additional visual interest to the piece. The black provides a nice contrast to the wood, and helps the small amount of red 'flame' in the burl to really pop. Always fun to watch the vacuum chamber at work! As always, a beautiful project, and skillfully done. Thanks again!

Thank you for the commentary on pricing. I have been telling people for years that labor and cost of utilities and supplies are not cheap (not with wood turning but other things)..You can't sell yourself short because someone doesn't like the price. I am absolutely amazed at the incredible quality and elegant beauty of each and every piece you create, your attention to detail is beyond belief. If I could caution you on one thing its exposing yourself to epoxy. There are certain elements in epoxy that never leave the human body, once you become sensitized you cant even touch cured epoxy(years old) with blowing up like the Michelin man. I am very serious, I used to work pouring epoxy terrazzo floors in airports and museums and was always very careful , now even the vapors makes me have a bad reaction. Just take care (wear gloves when turning) the world needs your one of a kind world class artistry.

I mostly wear gloves when mixing but never when turning it. I haven’t ever seen anybody wearing gloves when turning epoxy? I know it’s toxic, DE is food safe when it’s fully cured. Thanks for watching

Hello Jim its Mike (the terrazzo guy) we always used Diamond pads on our epoxy floors. The pads are more expensive than sandpaper but when used correctly they will last an incredible amount of time and we didnt put anything on the epoxy and stone after bringing it up to 1500 because it was always scratch free with a mirror finish. I understand wood is much different, you have to put a finish or sealer on it. If you get a chance try the diamond pads, you generally use them wet but I believe you will be amazed, save time and achieve and even clearer finish, not that your art isnt perfect already. I have never seen such quality in my life.
